My grandfather was there when it happened. There where marines and sailors on these ships too.

He told me a story that a sister ship went down because of the blast. When he got back to harbor another ship was being built and they told the press the japs sunk it. Pretty messed up huh?

In 1946? Yea, cause everyone would've believed that the Japanese sunk a US vessel a year after the war ended. Im pretty sure the press were allowed to view these tests anyway, so nothing was kept secret. It was part of Operation Crossorads, and no personnel from any branch of the military were on the ships, they were just used as targets to test the effect of nuclear weapons on warships. So you're either confused with something else, or talking shit troll..

However, I know my grandfather isn't a lier and I have proof men where on those ships (at least the ones on the outer ring) because my grandfather gave me all the gov't documents and I have all his radioactive blood work paperwork with "Operations Crossroads" all over it. I even have a gov't book made in 1947 with gov't documentation of everything...I wonder how much it is worth?

you're thinking hydrogen, which actually used plutonium. the hydrogen part was part of detonation I think, as in to trigger it. I'm not a nuclear scientist though.

@wyomingrailfan Not true. Hydogen Bombs are completely different to Uranium 235 and Plutonium Bombs (both atomic bombs). The uraniun in the bomb is a radioisotope and is always releasing neutrons. it is only when it reaches critical mass where is has a large SA like a sphere where the it can form a chain reaction (ie these neutrons collide with other uranium atoms and cause them to decay), this is called its 'critical mass', Thus releasing relatively large amounts of energy per chain reaction

@wyomingrailfan A hydrogen bomb works by Fusion unlike Fission. Meaning it joins atoms instead of spliting them. A large amount of energy is needed to get the process started (a small fission bomb is often used), but once it is started it releases way more energy than a normal atomic bomb

Depends on how far under the water it was. The water above it was blown upwards from the blast, but anything around it after the explosion is evaporated, but still it's the ocean not a lake.

The USAAF dropped the nukes on Japan...it was the right thing to do. The Bombs kiled 250,000 people and ended the war if the Allies had invaded 20 million (at least) could have killed on the Japanese side alone.

Japanese didnt surrender because of the ABomb. Russia was moving in against their neutrality with Japan as agreed at Yalta. Japan was ready to surrender at that point. The US needed this opportunity to secure their power in the dawning thermo-nuclear war world -which set the stage for all of the last 60 years of nuclear proliferation etc. It was a power play for imperialism.
