  • they should hurry up and plant another damn tree ffs

  • I've climbed One Tree Hill. It was right after some idiot tried to cut the tree down - back in the early 90's. The tree had a big bandage around it. Never knew if that tree survived . . . but I truly hope it's still standing.

  • stupid bass on recording is shit

    U2 rocks tho

  • My favorite all trime greatest rock band. I rocked through the 80s, 90s, and into the 2000s with this group and they are still as exciting and soulful as they were through the decades. This is on of my fav U2 songs, along with One, Electrical Storm, The Hands That Built America, Sarajevo Girl (with Pavarotti), All I Want Is You and all of the rest. They have aged gracefully and it will be a sad day if they ever cease to write and play these beautiful songs.

  • Pure class god bless Gregg Carroll

  • Great job, Bono. This was his comeback.

  • youuu run like a river to the sea

  • my favorite u2 song

  • The best there is Great dialouge and perfect ending.. love watching here yourtvshows .netA

  • Shhhhiiiizzzle... This show has to be winning a ton of awards Always stuck here youtvshowsdotnetA

  • Bono wearing BOD's jersey in NZ. Great show of appreciation to the Kiwis for their national sport, and perhaps a wee challenge ;)

  • A really beautiful song....first heard this in a cab in Christchurch....from an aussie

  • My second favorite song off Joshua tree!

  • My favorite U2 song by far. Next would be Red Hill Mining Town.

    Love me some Bono!!

  • I'm proud to be a kiwi - we are fantasic people & I LOVE Bono's loyatly :)

  • im proud to be from dublin

  • Happy X-Mas Roger, Rachelle and ? from Heugem to New-Zealand (K)

  • We buried Greg in Wanganui and i flew back to Ireland to represent his family at a service for his friends that never made the trip to NZ.Great friends he had in Ireland just good folk.

  • @turangi29 Thanks for the post bro. greg is my cousin and I was at his tangi with Bono and the band. Keep in touch. Cheers, Rawiri.

  • Bono is very emotional in this song !

  • Never seen a live version of this before. A true showstopper. Thanks for the post

  • thats a fair point dude,i agree he cant sing that high bit, thats just a fact but people on here are very touchy about any kind of crticism

  • Comment removed

  • ma l'ultimo tour l'hai visto?

  • cool!!! whit the ireland rugby t - shirt!

  • bono cant sing what planet you on , you are a lunatic

  • have u got 900 million on your accout?

  • Wtf does that have to do anything about his voice being shitty now? Your a retard.

  • Bono couldn't sing the real powerful part. Its too strenous to his voice. 3:42

  • Cant expect a 50 yr old man sing the way he did in his late 20's. Unfortunately his voice will never be the same.

  • u sing it,,,,prick

  • Why dont you pull Bono dick up your ass. All I was pointing outis he cant sing that part of the song anymore. Its too high of a range and register to make. He's old and his voice is not the same. Oh well...

  • your right.but he still makes me proud 2 be irish

  • so you should be proud , he is one of the best singers in the world any one who thinks he cant sing must be deaf

  • yeah, i understand you, but his voice i still very beautiful and different imo ;p

  • U2 just don't make 'em like this anymore.

  • was my late dads fave U2 song.....always brings tears 2 my eyes when eva i listen 2 it. Bono had sed it wud only eva be played no more than 40 times hence why so rare.

  • you can feel the emotion in bonos voice

  • This song has such special meaning for me as I hear it now, I think of my wonderful dog of 11 years who must be euthanized. It's a very cathartic song.

  • this is the real u2 full of emotion !! fuck get on your boots ! shame bono its gone that way !!

  • Thanks for the reply Threeblackcrows!

  • Love this song,,Why is it that U2 do not prefer to play it live that often?..

  • Probably because it reminds Bono too much of the guy it was written for - his PA Greg Carroll who came from NZ and died in '86' while delivering Bono's motorcycle. The Joshua Tree was dedicated to him and One Tree Hill was only released as a single in NZ. One Tree Hill is a mountain in Auckland that is sacred to the Maori people of NZ (Greg was Maori) so I guess us Kiwis are lucky enough for U2 to always sing it when they play here. You could see One Tree Hill from the stadium at this concert

  • when they can out to New Zealand to Gregs funeral, they held just the one press meeting and told them that that was all the press were getting as they were here to see a friend of.

  • it´s only me, or the sound is choppy???

  • very choppy

  • Yeah, the bass is causing the consumer cam's mic to flinch. It's probably a dynamic compression range setting that's keeping the level from clipping but at the same time you get this side effect.

  • FUCKIN AWESOME!

  • Wow, I had my worries that the whole song would be ruined when Bono reached the "Raining" part (because it's really hard to sing) but this performance was amazing from beginning to end.

Wonderful, U2 never seem to lose their ability to create and perform great music.

  • wouldn't mind, they were after being on tour for 18 months, you'd think his voice would have been pretty weak at this stage.

absolute classic song.pity they never play it in our part of the world.

  • YEAH VERY GOOD song U2 THE BEST BAND OF THE WORLD

U2 YEAH THIS IS ROCK and ROLL

GREETINGS FROM THE AREQUIPA-PERÚ! QUE VIVA U2 PARA SIEMPRE Siiiiiii

  • I hope they perform on more of NZ when they next come here, performing in just Auckland was a bit unfair on those of us elsewhere in the country.

But I do hope they'll perform this song again!

  • why don't they do this song more often? i mean its sound very good live

  • It's rare that Bono sings this song in concert because he gets very emotional about it (rightfully so). He was once quoted as saying he would never perform this song in concert again after doing it on the Joshua Tree tour, but I'm sure he was much obliged to do it in Auckland :-)

  • Yeah you guys were lucky to get that song with bonos voice like that on the Saturday night, i've been to 74 u2 gigs and that was the best song they have ever played!!!

  • kiwi power

  • jara sang, his song a weapon

    in the hands of love

you know his blood still cries

    from the ground

    victor jara de chile

  • What more can you say? One Tree Hill, love this song b/c it's not popular

  • I listen to this song b/c I enjoy listening to it.

And I don't know if it's the headphones I'm listening to this with or it's just the video but it makes my head thump.

  • This is not even two years old, and yet Bono and Co. make the time to swing by New Zealand to acknowledge the Carroll family with such a beautiful song dedicated to Greg. Amazing

  • its for one you lost

  • Richtich, best U2 song ever

  • seriously this song Rocks

  • U2:s best song ever!

  • this video is perfect so did you have another

  • The Kiwis will get Bono wearing BOD's jersey better than any tour spot outside Ireland. Class Bru!

  • dude i love this song!! and such a great live version!!

btw i have that jersey, its an ireland rugby jersey. ive owned it for over a year.

  • Yuo can't spam people for just not liking U2, I love U2 but i'm not a fanatic, everybody's entitled to an opinion and you can't go around marking stuff as spam just for saying "U2 arn't that important". Why don't you go and flag some of those video's of kids beating each other up, there more important surely.

  • Killers....ok Beatles....Ok Oasis....Shit U2.....The Best

  • put it this way u2 have been goin 3 times longer than the beatles. i think that proves something

  • What, like, the lead singer hasn't been shot?

    lol

  • true but that was after the beatles split up.

    RIP - John Lennon

  • Cool to see Bono wearing an Irish rugby Jersey, you will only see him wearing a sports top on limited occasions, good on him.

  • Wiki:"...was played frequently at the start and finish of the Joshua Tree Tour's third leg (though with a two month absence in the middle) and throughout the Lovetown Tour, with its last performance in Rotterdam on 9 January 1990. It was not played again until 2006, when it was played twice in Auckland during two Vertigo Tour shows and twice at two of the following shows in Tokyo. It has been performed a total of forty times."

  • Plus, they have so many songs, they can't play them all. Many are never played live. Also, while Greg Carroll was Bono's assistant, I'd imagine that the songs he wrote about his own parents get performed just a bit more than this [great] song.

  • dude.. amzing that you know how many times son(s) are played across all shows... how?

  • """que grandioso tema, me traslada al año 1987,un gran paso para u2, un gran salto para la historia del rock!

  • fucking nice one bono, kick ass

  • esta cancion va dedicada a todos los putitos que dicen que bono no puede cantar mas.

  • I fucking love watching these old-best-incredible-amazing U2 songs live... better than any drug in the world...

  • siete forti di one tree hill sopratutto i protagonisti

    sara

  • Fucking best!!!!!!

  • i bet they got the name of the show from this song

  • Heh they did :)

  • Fuck off

  • You know about writing songs then Paddy.

Most artists find an influence, inspiration or geographical.

2 Brownie Points for using all brain cells as to why Bono wrote One Tree Hill :D

    It's a fantastic U2 song :P

  • great version

  • wtF

  • Sue.....still running One Tree Hill? Nothing too serious...miss you Babe

  • hi!!!!!i luv this show!!

  • It's not the show, it has nothing to do with the show.

  • good song i luv one tree hill

  • great song from joshua tree!! riposa in pace,r.i.p. greg carroll!Ciao from italy

  • This looks 2 have been just brill! A great song that still stands up & endure from the Joshua Tree era.

  • I was there!! Magical, magical song. Magical, magincal night, Once in a lifetime. I was extremely lucky to be on the floor, on the other side of this video poster. Show #43 of 44 TOTAL Vertigo Shows! PRICELESS

click on my name for a few of my own memories. Enjoy! :)

  • One of my favourites lol I didn't even know they played during this tour

  • grow up

  • the series One Tree Hill is so much better :P hehe

  • You managed to butcher a great song..scum

  • Um, I am confused by that statement... are you comparing the live rendition to the original recording, or that someone else has covered this song? 'Cause, rarely, are the live versions as good as the original recordings. You have to give leeway to the fact that this was the LAST song of the night.

  • I have no idea what i was talking about

  • Classic! I hate when that happens.

  • ROFL

  • WHY U2 wont release every concert on dvd and give a majority of the profit to the One campaign and other charities.....really baffles me.

Because I would buy every single one of them just to hear songs like this in good quality.

    thanks for sharing it :D

  • This is by far one of the most underrated songs U@ has ever done. It is a shame it did not get more airplay or publicity on the Joshua Tree

  • this and red hill... forgotten classics

  • You are dead set spot on there...two underrated songs on a legendary album

  • *U2

  • All Bono needed to do was to pour a 40 onstage

  • fo real. tipple tipple for a brutha

  • Possibly the best One Tree Hill performance evah.

  • hi greg!!!

  • Thats almost dull compared to the Zooropa '93 tour

  • Awesome show - you have captured the heart of the show!!

  • I saw them in Tokyo a few days later - gave me goosebumps when One Tree Hill came on. Also tears in my eyes. U2 are still the best. MAY THEY LIVE FOREVER!

  • I was in general admission, just outside the corporate barrier, my god it was awesome.

  • Get a life!!!

  • U2 are great when they play their old songs. The new songs are garbage and I blame Bono

  • U2's new songs are dull. When they play old songs like this they sound great again.

  • I think the u2-songs of any decade sound genius but they just changed alot so it´s not anybodys oppinion

  • Siete il meglio, U2 la mia vita. Bono hai un cuore grande ed una voce immensa.

  • PUTA Q PARIU PQ EU NAO ESTAVA LA?

  • U2 is come back !!!

They still are the best !!

  • this was awesome. people chanting for like 5 mins 'one tree hill! one tree hill' and they left it to last encore! some one needs to tell bono there's four/five trees waiting to be planted totaras pohutukawas etc. biggest one gets the spot in 2010.

  • Increíble, no sabéis lo que pagaría por ver este tema en directo !!!!

  • Bloody fantastic show last night! This had to be the highlight by FAR!

If you could send this video to my email mate..sprok333@hotmail.com, (if its any better quality than this) that would be fantastic mate! Just wanna keep this video as a memory :)

  • Awesome! The shows were absolutely amazing, thanks so much for posting! :D

  • Great video. It was an awesome concert. Any chance that some more footage from the show could get uploaded elsewhere? I would love to see this in better than youtube quality. Thanks

  • who says this man is aging....he sounds as young and passionate as he did 20 years ago...beautiful.

  • Man your quick! brilliant concert, i was up in A reserve east stand :D

  • "I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky..."

    Absolutely beautiful
