  • Are these scientists still alive today?

  • tnx for upload this

  • quit chain smoking and you might lessen your chance of heart attack, comerades.

  • Sadly Russia has never valued the lives of its people enough.

  • @TheBoomViper

Sadly no country has ever valued the lives of its people enough.

  • @TheFluktuationAcht

Agreed. But my point was that Russia didn't even provide proper protection with respirators for the liquidators. All they got in the end of that suicidal mission, was a piece paper and 100 dollars which is pretty much a pat on the back.

Not to mention that those liquidators who are still alive today no longer have access to welfare.

It's disgraceful! And I feel really bad when I think about these brave soldiers.

  • @TheBoomViper Respirators wouldn't protect you from the fatal radiation.

  • @hailmasch

Compared to the film crew, these liquidators were hardly wearing any adequate protection.

  • they should ultimately try to "undercut" the site, causing it to fall deep into the mantle. an underground nuke might do the trick.

  • Are the guys in this video still alive?

  • respect to you guys. you had balls.

  • F-U, they're obv complete heroes. If one feel for a smoke to cool the nerves before crawling into a radioactive hellhole with a river of radiactive lava, fully knowing the details of the danger, then one is nothing but brave. It's not like they're getting a parade or even a fat sallery either. Utmost respect for these brave men.

  • Just ignore him. Hes just a troll.

  • I will lower the immunity fo your mother by fucking her ass

  • the interpreter/narrator seems to be don lafontaine

  • dredging out contaminated material , do believe fungi growing near proposed memorial day amusement center and have dug holes before and hit water fungi maybe indicating contaminated material traveling in underground water

  • some ideas large core drills to remove or contain contaminated material like ones to be used on moon to drill to hollow core, build an actual large building around effected area, note radiation leaking into ground water not good like movie sahara , clubzone vancouver member

  • problem with the drill is the structure is already super weak and drilling holes into the plant would further weaken it, not only that a drill would cause allot of dust to become unsettled and create unworkable circumstances for the scientists. and also they said themselves they're getting almost no money it's hard enough to get socks never mind a drill that could resist the effects of severe radiation exposure,

  • why is vodka forbidden in chernobyl?

  • maybe because they can get drunk, and obviously they cannot work in those conditions inside the sarcophagus

  • Maybe it's easily contaminated? Idk.. just guessing lol.

  • @du3ce Cause if scientists who work there while they are drunk they can fuck a lot of shit up :P

  • You ever heard of that Black Fungus eats radiation?

  • its sad to see how the lack of resources and backup creates problems to the soviets. They are very inteligent people, but when they do something, all these problems with money and the government leads them to making unsafe structures and things resulting in mayor problems, not only for them but for all the world. Im not and expert at all, just saying what I think.

Its a very good work you have made, congratulations stephen

  • 17 years after this was filmed : what they've done for the sarcophagus... nothing. What they will do : make a new sarcophagus before disaster happens.

  • Make a new sarcophagus???? My friend, this is the modern world, nothing, I mean, NOTHING, will be done until it is far, far, too late. I hope my horrible joke on the reaction speed of the "advanced" 21 century.

  • Dude, their in the process of making a new one. Read a little bit about it.

  • Sorry for the late reply. Um, I was using sarcasm.

  • Sorry, it's text, can't read voice expressions lol

  • Its fine.

  • The only true solution is to either: 1. Send in teams of cleaners with explosives and blast the lava apart and collect it in containers, as well as clean out any debris, or 2: seal the entire plant in with concrete down to every last room in the basement, the entire reactor core needs to be removed with a crane or disassembled piece by piece. I have a small piece of the Chyrnoble lava (about the size of the tip of a pen) stored in a steel and plastic lined ammo box, taken by a scientist.

  • The problem is the radioactive dust. An explosion of any kind could kick up more of the uber-deadly stuff. The sarcophagus has holes in it big enough for a bus to fit! The Russians are worried that the dust could leak out through them if they detonate anything in there.

  • Ukrainians.

  • They have implemented a plan for a new sarcophagus. It should be completed this year and is being built by the french. Dont loose your faith in humanity just yet :)

  • @jbaker88 It was lost long ago.

Humans should have never tangled with nuclear energy.

  • @jbaker88 Well, the French are building it, so we might loose out faith.. ha

  • Real heroes

  • is this the last episode?

  • the reason isn't communism. The reason is because the soviets wanted to cover up the incident and were too proud to ask anybody for help.

  • ya but this documntary looks old but not old enough to match 1986,the soviets wanted to keep it quiet at first but they couldnt i agree. but now that it's known why arent there any sientists yet?...

  • Because 1) the Ukrainian government is too broke to send many of its own scientists to perform research at Chernobyl, and 2) the rest of the world is too preoccupied with other problems.

There are currently many scientists that live and work in Chernobyl today, but many more are still needed.

  • @XxkutaapxX because everyone knows that once you go in you may never come back out. And if you do, what condition will you be in? Its a suicide mission

  • @midwesternerforlife More accurately - the Soviets were concerned about the NATURE of the reactor getting into public eyes. The reactor was designed to spend nuclear fuel at a high rate - in short, it was a weapon. If you spend Uranium 233, and it becomes Uranium-235 (It might be the other way arround, but I think the nucleus gains weight during Fusion from the additional neutrons.) Then it becomes weapons-grade. What more convenient source for Fissile nuclear material, than from power?

  • @midwesternerforlife there's a wikipedia entry about the chernobyl disaster. the attempted cover-up obviously failed but the reason why the explosions happened in the first place were mainly based in design errors. No containment, insufficient control of activity of separate parts of the core, strong positive void coëfficient. There are still some active reactors in Russia that were built with these same design errors. They have been modified extensively after 1986, but still not among the safe

  • you did an amazing job. congratulations.
