In my opinion, Hungars are unable to play czech classical music. There is big diference Between Slavs and Finno-Ugric peoples in their nature. Some passages sounds funny, tasteless tempo changes, insensitive dynamics... Only Czechs can perform this with adequate seriousness.
One of most promising and expressive conductors ever! Unfortunately Istvan died at 47 in a tournée when titular of the V. P. O. to Israel drowned in Haifa. IMHO his Brahms is unequalled, and his Schubert and Dvorak with the VPO are thrilling! Schubert's Unfinished by IK w the VPO is something !!! He also gave us Bela's Bartok Bluebeard w Christa Ludwig.
