Good song......but what I don't get is why it is so offensive to bisexuals?!?!?!?!?!
Yes I understand what the song is all about and that, but she did say she liked it....not that she hated it. Please do explain. It's late and my brain is just not grasping atm.
There is a strong preexisting stereotype that anyone claiming to be bisexual is "just going through a phase." We are finally getting to a point where bisexuals are truly acknowledged as being authentic. However, by writing a hit song about a drunk sapphic makeout session, Katy Perry has drawn this issue to the forefront again, making the public further question the authenticity of bisexuality.
I'm well aware that I don't speak for all bisexuals.. but since the vast majority of the bisexuals I know in real life find this song hugely offensive, I thought it was worth mentioning.
I've explained this a bunch of times already in the comments here, but here goes again..
As a bisexual person, I am annoyed that Katy Perry has once again renewed the stereotype that bisexuals are either promiscuous, invalid/false, confused, or all of the above.
I realize it was meant as "just a bit of fun," of course, but it annoys me that no thought was given to the potential reactions of genuine bisexual people to Perry's contrived-for-attention portrayal of bicuriosity in the mass media.
I agree, this song really is offensive to bisexuals... but at the same time it's kind of catchy and it's everywhere and I can't stop listening to it...
What can I say? Your cover is much better than the original. I like the feeling you bring to the vocals here, and your simpler arrangement brings out the beauty of the song that Perry's pounding bass covers up.
By the way, in one of your videos you were trying to notice some improvement in your voice derived from taking lessons? I don't know if you still take them, but you sound good and in control.
As a heterosexual male, I have no way to relate to this song. No identification possible, except the fact that most times I kissed a girl, I liked it. So, your covering it allowed me to musically appreciate it. Songs are songs before they are statements. Obviously, it's sometimes hard to dissociate and ignore statement (and sometimes statements are so present you can't appreciate the song), and I think it's good you have the stance you have on this.Ok I'm drifting - I like your version better.
I hadn't heard this song whole yet. Just the chorus on the radio, so I hadn't thought about it being good or bad when it comes to the bisexuality topic. Through your voice I had the patience to hear it from beginning to end, and that was the core of my experience here.
Whatever message it conveys, I could find it musically interesting here, while in the radio it seemed as annoying as the next radio hit.
Wow i think this is the first time i've commented one of your videos XD but i've watched tons of them and you are amazing, i love how you make every song your own, i usually like them more! Totally agree with you on the song, all the girls on my basketball team sang it all the time which was very annoying but it fit all of them perfectly haha thats bad... The first time i heard this song though i almost threw my speaker across the room because it really is a huge step back for bisexuals.
of course they came out with this song because apparently its like "the cool thing" nowadays to be bisexual (for a minute at least). as a bisexual i find it annoying as hell! its a catchy tune, but im sick of these "bisexuals" who only do it for the attention of guys.. last time i checked that didnt make you bisexual, but it does make you a moronic, insecure slut. (i have some personal bitterness on the matter with a past love interest.. so yes i am bitter)
i'm not bisexual however somewhat bicurious and i always found it funny when girls actually proclaimed to be bi and then a year later changed their minds.
this song is terribly addicting, but i think it's only going to bring back another HUGE wave of that whole "AM I A LESBIAN?!?" thing for girls in middle school. hahah :)
Lulu, read my description or the other comments, I covered this song as a kind of ironic protest because I find it really offensive to me as a bisexual :) I assume you feel similarly.
Okay, I know Kate personally, and lemme tell you, she is NOT rich. She also didnt just "turn" bisexual. Get your facts straight before you talk shit, cause its people like you that need a life, majorly dear.
I'm talking here about stuff that I don't know much about, and my apologies for that, but can you really blame this song if bisexuals are not yet viewed as complete equals in the queer community? Like how? The queer community heard Katy Perry on the radio, and said "Hey, bisexuals are only playing games"? Come on! There are all kinds of people, some of them are players who play games with friendship and love. Some experiment. Some are simply swept off their feet by love.
There is a strong preexisting stereotype that bisexuality "doesn't actually exist" & that anyone claiming to be bisexual is "just going through a phase." We are finally getting to a point where bisexuals are truly acknowledged as being authentic & having their own place in the queer community. However, by writing a hit song about a drunk sapphic makeout session, Katy Perry has drawn this issue to the forefront again, making the public further question the authenticity of bisexuality.
the problem is that the lyrics say that being gay is "not how good girls behave" and blame the incident on being drunk and confused. instead of opening REAL discussion on freedom of sexuality, it uses being queer as a trend and a gimmick to sell her fucking album.
You sort of made the song your own and I liked the way you did it. But to me, your description doesn't make sense. You said the song was a "slap in the face" and you didn't really want to listen to it anymore... and so you recorded it yourself?? That doesn't rime.
Music feeds your soul, and when your soul is fully fed, the music has to come out. Maybe that compelled you to do the song.
I think I decided to cover it because it seemed ironic. Kind of like how, when I'm with my queer friends, we'll sometimes jokingly use the phrase "That's so gay" to describe homophobics or whatever.
Also, this is a really really annoyingly catchy song so I thought playing it would help get it out of my system.
most of my dyke friends love this song... and i'm like "did you even listen to it?" it basically makes being queer into something trivial that you can try on and take off just as easily. DUMB.
Thanks. Yeah, I found it incredibly annoying because, throughout my coming-out-as-bi process, I got a lot of "It's just a phase, you'll grow out of it," which drove me crazy. And here Katy Perry is, seemingly proving that stereotype. Arrrrgghh.
I liiiike your music! =D

could you please explain to me hows it is offensive...
its sexual experimentation in a song...
not a very good song admittedly...
but its just a bit of fun...
if you take it to heart so much, your making something of nothing...in my opinion.
i highly doubt the intnetion of the song was to offend or to force bi'gay community to take a step back...

5. I don't need to prove myself to you, because the simple fact is, I know who I am, & you have no idea
