  • Very nice collection!

  • Wow, what a collection. That Kraft transmitter is just fantastic.

I don't know the first about vintage RC equipment, but I can tell that's a fine machine.

  • great video. Very cool stuff and interesting facts! well done.

  • woah... those transmitters are freakin' awsome... they must be worth a fortune, but i would rather keep the radios :)

  • Hey! Was that a Kraft Elec Rider? Had one of those. It was blue. Still have the Tx and a servo.

  • Yep. Cool. Did you see my video on the Elec rider yet? Thanks.

  • Thanks for posting. You were very priveliged to have know that great man who progressed our sport so much.

  • Thank you. He was a big icon in the day.

  • what are you talking about scolen3? I got a message that said you were replying to me with that comment.

  • how many radios do you have?

  • Over 60 transmitters.

  • Wow, those kraft radios were BIG! My first real radio, aside from the skys port 4, is the eclipse 7. I love it, I didn't know it was one of the first computer radios though.

  • Yes, one of the first. Futaba and JR led the way first. I like my Eclipse and actually use it to fly my Aerofly sim. I took the module out the back so it would not transmit and use so much battery for sim practice.

    Thanks.

  • Have you given the Pullen and Kraft radio to the RCHoF or will you maybe sell it?

  • They have it.

  • what is a good inexpensive 4 channel radio system you recomend for a 4 channel acrobatic balsa airplane.

  • Spectrum 6i. You can use it on 10 different helis and planes.

  • You look like Hitler...

  • What is that supposed to mean?

  • thats very rude, please keep your remarks to your self.

  • sorry

  • Hey, I never saw a submarine at gyro hobbies. Where do u live in O.C., I live at the beach town San Clemente

  • Yes, I lived in Orange County too, San Juan Capistrano for 40 years. That Submarine came when gyro was on Alicia in Mission Viejo and PlayCo on Eltoro road, long gone now, used to sell them too. Anthony sold Gyro, now, I heard. Great place.

  • You are the type of people that make me sick. There is no point in posting comments like this to good people like him. I'm sure that the only reason you posted that was to get a minute of amusement, very sad. Why don't you get a hobby, it might higher your self esteem, it would show that you accomplish something above the level of a complete moron like you. At least thats the impression you have given.

  • Is this a response to ShittyAssNigger or am I lost?

  • Oh ya it was, Didn't post as a reply for some reason though. Youtube is weird like that sometimes.

  • BAVE like how much is 2 of them to i can buy

    of my kids

  • Radios? You can buy a pretty nice 3 channel complete set for under $100 that can be used in many kit planes.

  • Hi,

The car on the wall at minute 2:28 in the video... What is that? I had a really old buggy way back in the early 80's before I got into Tamiya kits that looked just like your buggy there. The kit was given to me, so I never really knew what it was but I remember the tub chassis, semi-trailing arm suspension and that huge rollbar over the gear case that housed the electric motor in that long projection off the rear.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks. It is called a Baja buggy, and I got it what used to be called Hobby Shack.

  • whered u get the Submarine?????

  • The Nikko Submarine I got from Gyro Hobbies in Lake Forest California, when I lived there in Orange County.

  • oh, and dave, do you know a website that sells RC DIY kits you solder into a board to make a reciever and transmitter?

  • There are no more. Heathkit was the last do it yourself RC kits.

We made them at Kraft and sold them to Heathkit.

  • did u say crap during 3:38? it sounds like it lol those r some cool old controlers though =)

  • Thanks kindly. Yep, I did say Crap.. LOL.

  • Did this operate on 27MHz? Or was 72 already available in the 70s for civil use?

  • This one worked on 53 MHZ. Phil Flew on The Ham band frequencies.

  • your phil kraft radio must not work anymore. And you probably did not have a reciever for it anyway. Great video and great radios.

  • Thanks. The Transmitter does work but I dont have a receiver.

  • Is that room for sale? You must have the coolest things in one room. I'd pass out if I saw all the things I could tinker with in a room like that. Wow man, thank you for sharing that.

You need slip in the line "here is my radio for that radio"

  • Haha...well everything is for sale, my friend....but not right now. LOL. Thanks kindly for your comments.

  • Awesome stuff as always :-) Pretty cool to see how the hobby has evolved, hold on to your FM radios, they will probably soon be old news with the advent of Spectrum radios.

    Five Stars.

  • Thanks much. Yep, we all had to start somewhere. Spread Spectrum technology is sure the best thing now, all right.

  • dave those kraft radios are beautiful!

  • Thanks very much. I appreciate your comments.

  • Nic vid! What are you holding at 4:38?

  • A self take picture of me holding a bottle of Der Real Stuff, A German plastic coating for the car.

  • i have some old Kraft transmitters but only one of them work

  • Send them to the rc hall of fame, maybe. Those frequencies on the old Krafts are now illegal anyway. Nice to know you know of Kraft though.

  • GReat stuff as usual Dave. Thanks for sharing.

One question, though; I notice when you went in depth about the kraft, you mentioned that mode 1 has throttle and aleron on the one stick, elev and rudder on the other. I find it more natural to have Elev and aleron on the one stick. What are your thoughts?

  • Thanks kindly. Yes E/A is the way it is nowdays in USA & West, but in the east they still like Mode I.

Phil Kraft was 1st and there were no guidelines then. He felt the throttle was better on the R, as it was in a real plane in relation to the pilot, so thats how it came about. But I could never fly it that way and neither could many others, so then he invented the single stick. It was also a smart way to keep people from saying, Hey Phil, can I fly your plane? He'd say no, It's mode I. LOL.

  • Great video, and thanks for the link to the RCHoF. BTW, I think I spied an old RC10 chassis on the wall in that video!

  • Thanks kindly. Ha ha.. your right. Good Eye!

  • That was great. I always like seeing old things or things with historical significance. Kinda wish you were more into R/C cars so we could see the evolution of the pistol-grip radio!

  • Thanks...I did a few, but helis challenged me and I kinda never went back. Check out the hall of fame site. I think there are some pistol grips shown in there.

  • Cool, CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME OF IT? :)

    Just kidding.

  • Haha.

  • i bet i am gonna be mumblling saying "radio" "radio" "radio" in my sleep :P

    nice video!!!

  • Thanks much...repeat after me....LOL.

  • some many radios

  • Haha.

  • wow Dave, wow!!!

  • Thanks.

  • Dave,

Once again I am amazed at your collection. I feel bad because I tossed my Hyper fly out about 2 months ago. It had been sitting and needed batteries and it could have used a body. It would look great on the ceiling! Get some more of the old stuff working again, like your Bi plane! It is so neat to see it work. I wished you lived close and offered tours! 5*

  • Haha. Well thanks kindly. Too bad your H-Fly is gone.

  • Dave,

Interesting stuff as usual. Thanks for sharing.

    Jeff

  • Thanks Jeff.

  • That's not a workshop that's a museum.

    Fantastic.

    5*

  • Thanks. That is kind of you to say.

  • i wish i had a friend like you who lived next to me so we could talk about planes and stuff.LOL.Your videos are great.

  • Thanks kindly. Move here....

  • Great trip down history lane Dave. It's kinda interesting how you seem to have more radios than planes/helis/cars etc.... lol 5/5

  • Thanks. Yep, everybody crashes..... and Transmitters seem to be the only survivors sometimes! LOL.

  • Yes, I am starting to see what you mean now that I look around my house and see all the transmitters lying around and sitting on shelves lol........ My collection will never be as good as yours though.......

  • wow realy nice rc systems, you rul!!!!

  • Haha. Thanks.

  • hey dave what do you use the single stick for (or what were they used for?)

  • The knob ran the rudder when twisting it, the stick moved up and down and left and right for elevator and ailerons. Throttle was on the side of tx with a trim tab sort of arrangement.

  • did you retire from kraft ??? oh ok they closed .your garage looks like a rc hall of fame lol

  • I worked til they closed. Haha..your giving away my age! Thanks for the comments.

  • i could look and tinker with all that stuff for days and days. maybe go on down through the line and see each one work. very cool stuff. thanks dave

  • Whew...that is a lot of battery charging. LOL. Thanks kindly, Bill.

  • hey Dave brilliant video, 1 thing tere caught my eye above the prism 7 x Radio i saw a pink helicopter, put that in a video, it looks kinda cool.

hehe, thanks once again Dave for showing us your RC history in your career, i really enjoyed it. many thanks.

  • That is actually a Piccolo. I already have a video up on it flying, but not with the Pink fuselage... Check it out. Thanks for the kind words.

  • WOW..... that's really nice :)

and can't wait to see this spectacular radio in rc hall of fame

  • Coming soon. Thank much.

  • whats the pink and white helli! we need to see that next!

  • That is actually a Piccolo. I already have a video up on it flying, but not with the Pink fuselage... Check it out.

  • Interesting video! I just bought a Prism 7 new in box as my first r/c system. Why is the 7x your all-time favorite and what does the 'x' designate?

  • Great system and reliable. The x, i guess means it is Programmable. I like it because I still fly many planes with it, and the frequencies are synthesized to run any frequency I want with no crystals. Thanks.

  • Wow, no crystals? My Prism 7 requires a new module for the transmitter if I want to use a different channel.

  • Is yours an X? I never saw a Hitec Prism 7 without the plug-in Frequency synthesizer on the back. Maybe they went cheaper and just have Frequency versions only now. My radio is about 14 years old and that feature is why I bought it. I just turn the dial on the module to the frequency I want and plug it back in to the back of the TX.

  • Mine is not an X, and the module in the back is definitely a fixed channel. I'm not sure when it was manufactured, but the original sales receipt is dated 1994.

  • There you go. X means synthesized frequency.

  • first to view!

awesome video! you got quite alot, i used to have a wintage radio from an rc car, but i traded it without even knowing. either way i got a good trade and me guy was a collector as well so it went to good hands

    keep it up!

  • Thanks much.

  • woo! first comment! Great vid. i love your vids ont he earlier radios. There great, and so is this one! 5 stars!!!

  • Glad you liked it. Thank you.
