  • As soon as you finish telling us (starts at 1:35) people have a misconception that concrete dries, you say, "Now this will take a little bit of time to dry". I know this is one of the first signs of an asshole, but I couldn't help it. Good clip.

  • @EveryoneIsBoring Everybody needs a Geiger counter in their office!

  • It is actually a misconception that concrete is finished hardening at any point in time. While the hardening process slows down to almost nothing after 28 days, as long as a water source is present the concrete will continue to harden indefinitely. This is why if concrete doesn't reach required strength at 28 days another test will be performed at 56 days.

Really glad you did a segment on concrete though! :)

  • @engineeringguyvideo Professor, as long as you going on sabbatical could you teach some engineering courses at University of Minnesota? :D

  • u said that it was a misconception that it dried, but u were waiting for it to dry....?

  • Awesome videos, they are very interesting.

I do have one question at the end where you have the links to the other videos one link is missing and two links link to private videos is this on purpose or a mistake? because I would like to see those.

  • thx for ur educational videos. its really helpful keep up the good work!!

  • I never knew he had so many people to make his videos. I thought he set this up by himself in his office. Takes away the character of the video a bit I'm sorry to say :/

  • another great video!

  • @EveryoneIsBoring We once made a video about the geiger counter ....hope to redo it someday.

  • "Concrete does not actually dry at all"

"Now...let's wait for this concrete to dry"

    ...Jigga what?

To be clear, I adore your videos.

  • You're a living safety hazard, you know that?

  • I love your videos! thanks for these! i find them hilarious. =)

  • Wow, you read fast. Even in sped up editing.

  • how did you get this concrete tube in your office?

    :D

very nice videos, by the way.

  • @hilloftheking Note sure if you are joking or not ... but it is forced perspective. It is only 18 inch or so tall. You can see it in the outtake when Jon lifts it ... Thx for kind words!

  • @engineerguyvideo

my fault, I thought it was cg graphics.

  • @hilloftheking np. We do use cg -- in fact in nearly every videos including series #2. In this video we just could not get the look we wanted from an image ... the lighting is really, really hard ... at least for us. I made this in my garage ... had to make three until I got one I liked. In fact it broke when I lifted it, but we decided that this distressed look was good was nice!

  • @engineerguyvideo HAHA I'll admit that I thought it was real until I read the comments. Well done! I really wasn't expecting it so I just assumed it was real and wondered how you got that in there. I was picturing carts and pulleys!

  • Noooo.... I was going to be smart and say "that's painted styrofoam". Read your reply just after. Felt dumb. Good thing I'm learning from your videos ;)

  • @hilloftheking they put a small model in front of the cameras, so it looks tall, and they film the video AS-If it was there.

  • I do like your sweater vest though! I wear them all the time!

  • Hmmmm, now I want to say "What? But now I miss the antics!"

    :-)

  • I guess I found the antics a bit distracting.

  • @tdsthomas Yep ... so we stopped 'em! We made 14 videos of this type, looked at what worked, looked at what didn't and move to a simple, straight forward format found in the 2nd series on the IBM Selectric, Quartz Watch, Pop Can, etc.

  • These are really great. I haven't found a better way to stall out on writing my term paper this week.

  • Bill and Alton Brown must be twin sons of different mothers...

  • @bullonay I used to get that a lot, then I gained weight and got it less. Maybe I should loss weight.

  • Great series of videos!

  • great video, I always wondered how they got the concrete foundations for bridges to set underwater and "dry"

  • What a great excuse to destroy things. "It's for science".

  • @Amiduffer Strictly speaking: It was for engineering ;-)

  • Neat-o!

  • Love the out-takes, more please!

  • love your videos

  • Great videos

  • You have to love outtakes. keep them coming

  • Keep up the great vids.

  • I'm both informed and entertained :)

  • @suprfluo Me to I like these types of ways to learn new things :)

  • yea keep it up x3

  • Awesome video!
