But you have to think it only gets used maybe 10-12 times a year, and thats it. Cleveland tax payers love to pay for an empty building. Cleveland has enough empty buildings. Great video. Helped me relive the good times and reminded me about the good things here. I remember back in 1998 when the whole Cleveland metro area was one of the top markets for pretty much everything. Something happened in 1999 and the city made a complete 180. We went from being great to being Detroit within a few months. Everything great dissolved like Alka Seltzer. It's a shame because Cleveland really was a great city. Hope we can get it back.
i agree... and i blame a lot of Cleveland's problems on their politicians. #1 the casino issues - by not having them in Ohio, that has really hurt our economy, because people go to casinos in other states to spend their money, and we dont see a dime of it back (but thats the fault of Ohio as a whole, not Cleveland). hopefully the casinos can be the crux of something great here again. but we have a lot of catching up to do, we are essentially 15 years behind everyone else
there are other issues too - a lot more complex, but i just use the casinos as a prime example... but the Euclid cooridor project is finished, and that looks beautiful - and i know a renovated east and west banks of the flats is still in the works... which the east side up towards the mouth of the Cuyahoga is going to get a nice makeover soon - with high rise condos and a legacy village/river walk area added... it's going to take time, but Cleveland will be back.
@DJX187 Thank you! That's exactly what I've been saying. Casinos would help, but they won't fix everything. Ohio's current condition is all of our faults. The politicians we elected to represent us have (for the most part) failed miserably, but we share the blame with them because we never called them out on their mistakes. They messed everything up and we stood by and let them.
@DJX187 Let's all pray that the Medical Mart gets built. I think the economy will begin to recover. Hopefully, it will begin rebuilding the reputation of Cleveland. The other thing that I think would help is to offer huge discounts on all of our old, abandoned warehouses to green energy equipment manufacturers. Having that in our city would immediately elevate Cleveland's ranking back into the top 20. We're due for this and we can DO this. What are your ideas?
i wouldn't even know where to begin - if i did, i'd be running for mayor lol... i would say getting the Medical Mart would be priority 1, as well as a brand new convention center - to at least help attract businesses back into the area.... the schools are a whole nother issue... the idiot they have in charge is basing his plan, off of an idea that failed in Chicago - not good... some say all the funs going into the new innerbelt bridge is waste - but do we want...(c)
.. a tragedy to happen like in Minneapolis? So I am for that reconstruction, even if it means years of delays and congested traffic.. it could save lives in the long run... but in terms of revitalizing the downtown area, it's all about attracting new business... areas of downtown are cleaning up nicely - so hopefully it will continue on, and not stall out any time soon.

@DJX187 Thank you! That's exactly what I've been saying. Casinos would help, but they won't fix everything. Ohio's current condition is all of our faults. The politicians we elected to represent us have (for the most part) failed miserably, but we share the blame with them because we never called them out on their mistakes. They messed everything up and we stood by and let them.

@DJX187 Let's all pray that the Medical Mart gets built. I think the economy will begin to recover. Hopefully, it will begin rebuilding the reputation of Cleveland. The other thing that I think would help is to offer huge discounts on all of our old, abandoned warehouses to green energy equipment manufacturers. Having that in our city would immediately elevate Cleveland's ranking back into the top 20. We're due for this and we can DO this. What are your ideas?

i wouldn't even know where to begin - if i did, i'd be running for mayor lol... i would say getting the Medical Mart would be priority 1, as well as a brand new convention center - to at least help attract businesses back into the area.... the schools are a whole nother issue... the idiot they have in charge is basing his plan, off of an idea that failed in Chicago - not good... some say all the funs going into the new innerbelt bridge is waste - but do we want...(c)

.. a tragedy to happen like in Minneapolis? So I am for that reconstruction, even if it means years of delays and congested traffic.. it could save lives in the long run... but in terms of revitalizing the downtown area, it's all about attracting new business... areas of downtown are cleaning up nicely - so hopefully it will continue on, and not stall out any time soon.
