@lukeshytalker02 Well if you've driven an MK1 and it never did over 120mph, the engine must have been poggered - cos I got 111mph in a 1.1 ford Fiesta! If the car has been well looked after, new filters, timing right etc that car will do at least 140mph - I know, been there done that - after all it is a 1800cc engine in quite a small chassis. Point taken about MK5 Golf faster - the VR6 can shift.

@Backin1985 lmao 111mph in a 1.1 fiesta, i think your speedo was a bit off there mate, and 140 out of a 1.8 8v golf gti is also bollox to be fair hehe, youve made me chuckle, besides that the original gti was a 1.6 8v until about '82 , mine was a 'w' reg so 1.6, it was quicker than an XR3i but not that much, and the mk5 golf gti is 2.0 turbo not vr6, seriously i have owned more cars than youve had hot dinners and driven plenty of fast cars too, your living in a dream world

not quite- I had a Lada 1300cc 2104 and after slight 'modifications' like quality motor oil (Castrol GTX3) instead of the recycled crap they use to put into it. NGK spark plugs, lower tyres, gear and diff oil, the improvement was so noticeable.

Mine showed 160 km/h speedo but I drove it faster than that on highways in 4th gear- imagaine if I had 5th?
