  • This is is not black and beans. This is sancocho. I don't like it! The water must be from beans not like that. i give you 2 points.

  • I just posted my new video called Cuban Chicken and Rice.

Let me know what you think of it. All suggestions as to how I may improve the videos are welcome!

    Thanks,

    Sandra

  • This looks delicious. Do you pre-cook the beans? I love this video! You have such an engaging personality!

  • @sgilk4

Hello! In this recipe I use canned black beans. In fact, canned beans are about the only canned food I use because there is nothing added and it's chemical-free. However, you can soak and then pre-cook dried beans if you prefer. It just takes longer. Thanks so much for your comment! My next video will be on Cuban Chicken and Rice. Mmmmm!

  • @3730Ingraham Okay. I have to try this. I can't wait until the Cuban Chicken & Rice!

  • Yhea. I love that roma smell.

  • This will be a big help for the one vegetarian at my dinner party. Thanks

  • I am cubanamerican and this lady no sabe cocinar. All sofrito are made with olive oil, onion, garlic, and ground pepper in that order. I also add 1/4 tspn oregano for moros. Some add basil. Bell pepper make sofrito bitter. Moros don't take red pepper and the only meat you should add is some chicharones for flavor. Sofrito may me changed by adding cumin for arroz con pollo y tabasco para camarones. Also, make your own beans from scratch and you will not need to add water. Ay, que horror.

  • @chimel07

Sorry you feel that way, amigo. My family all laughed out loud when I read your comment to them! I think you should loosen up a bit, experiment, explore, and open your mind!

  • @chimel07 im cuban...and i think u re right in the most of the things u said...people use green bell pepper but they font put it on the sofrito they just add it to the potaje....the cumin is normally added at the end of the preparation with olive oil, vinegar and dry wine wich is kinda hard to find here in usa unless u re in miami

  • what is the difference between this and haitian black beans?

  • @urachan100 Hello! I'm sorry, but I'm not at all familiar with Haitian black beans and rice. I'm Cuban, and this is my modern adaptation of the way Cubans make this. If you make it, I'm sure that you will love it!

  • @3730Ingraham I would have this with ga kho gung, also know as vietnamese caramel chicken.

  • I have everything to make this except the red and green peppers. However! I do have green chilis in a can-would that squeak by? Thanks in advance for your help.:)

  • @creatornat Oh, please don't do that! The fresh green and red peppers are important, but not vital. You can still get a great dish without them. But don't use the canned chilies unless you like it Mexican style with heat! Cuban's do not generally use any type of chili peppers. We prefer to FLAVOR our food with spices!

  • @3730Ingraham you need the soffritto to make it Cuban

  • @enisorian Hello, No, do not use Uncle Ben's! Uncle Ben's is par boiled. That means it's been partially cooked. That's why the texture is so strange and dry when it's done. Use only plain, white rice. Basmati is good too.

  • wow this looks so good and simple...I like the way you adapted it to a healthier version..i love southern & Mexican recipes that are adapted to a healthier version too. Need to check out your other vids now! Gracias!!

  • The beans are canned. Beans are one of the very few canned things I use because they're always ready to use and there's nothing artificial used in the canning process. They're loaded with protein and vitamins just like fresh. However, when I prepare dishes that are all about the beans, like "potaje" or bean soup, then I use the fresh ones and soak them overnight. I replace the soaking water with fresh, and cook them up!

  • she needs to come back and make more videos so i can sub

  • Thanks!!! but how did you prepare the beans?

  • @alexdelpiero19 I think as with all beans best to soak them around 24 hrs (I actually get them to the point they're about to sprout) then throw away the water and cook in fresh water for about 30min (always boil beans for the first 10min). I say 30mins only because with this recipe you will be cooking them a further 20min with the rice. Anyways that's how I do it.

  • Thanks for great recipe! It was nice simple and delicious, will impress my latin friends here in Miami. I'll tell them about you. Thanks again.

  • Mommy, I like your kitchen, dime qué cosa bonita está encima tu nevera? This white/silver thing, it's sooo cool - un abrazo fuerte !
