When the rock musicians started to make their music more pop-oriented, they would be accused of "selling themselves out." What the hell?? The age changed, and the listeners changed too. You don't have to accuse those amazing artists simply for showing your "taste". Plus, pop-rock is one of my favorite musical genres. Love Liz Phair, Michelle Branch, Alanis Morissette and Chantal Kreviazuk FOREVER!!!
I don't think Liz Phair is a sellout, despite the comments. I mean, on the self titled album she was still as raunchy as ever. How many female singers do you know that can get away with a song called "Hot White Cum"? LOL!!
The funny part of all the "Liz sold out" talk is that it implies that Liz was ever some type of standard bearer for indie rock ethics and ideals. I guess that wasn't her on MTV and the cover of Rolling Stone back when she first broke out. I guess those weren't her songs on constant rotation on mainstream alternative rock radio. And musically speaking, Liz was hardly revolutionary. She was the latest in a long line of guitar based female singer songwriters. She was just a little more profane.
LIZ PHAIR ! ! ! ! ! ! ! <3 From "Never Said" to This!? It just goes to show that she was born with raw natural talent and knows how to adapt to whats going on in music. :) LIZ PHAIR FTW ! ! !
Sorry, I just can't blame the woman for "selling out." Phair was on a major label at the time of this release; she was no doubt pressured by label execs to work with The Matrix and sell records, so she decided to play ball. If it had paid off, she would have found financial security, something clearly desirable for a single woman with a young son. Furthermore, success would have allowed her the ability to be more creative in future endeavors on the label.
She didnt sell out. I like all her albums. She made money and a career comeback. There is nothing wrong with working with the best in the business to make a career. What do you want? artists to struggle with their music and make no money, F that. This album was great.
The song was co-written by the same team that writes for Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne...that's why people think she sold out. She used to write all her own stuff.
To the people who claim that she is a sellout: Liz is just making her repertoire more diverse. If you can't appreciate good pop-rock music, then shame on you. Bashing Liz shows that you people are very, very ugly inside.
@TearInTheirHands Don't worry about the opinions of contrarians. Writing *quality* pop music is no easier than putting out an abstract concept album. A solid argument could be made that it's much more difficult.
@TearInTheirHands ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! "She sold out.?...She sold out ARENA'S, CLUBS & THEATRES!!" These indie types who slag artists like Liz because they become successful make me laugh. I worked in the music biz for years. Records are made to be heard. Music should be made to be enjoyed.

What a fucking sell out. This sounds like utter generic garbage. What happened to the woman who made one of my favorite albums of all time- Exile in Guyville. Where is here uniqueness? This is just... bad.
I think artists have to do some sell out stuff to make extra money. Musicians don't make as much money as they used to now that we can listen to music for free online. You would be shocked at how little some of them make.
@abcdefh1992 first of all, YOU don't own Liz Phair. second, what the hell did you do to contribute to make Liz Phair's success ? third, YOUR CHEAP probably got her album for FREE!!!! so GET OVER YOURSELF
Whoa dude, thanks for telling me about Angelica Lane... she DOES look like Liz P. Hair...
Eufrat is hot too
All haters, quit saying she's a sell-out.
She has the ability to create songs that make everyday people happy and hum along to her songs. And she needs money to live on, just like every OTHER person on earth.
Your ideals about not "selling out" mean realistically less than nothing. Get back into Reality, kidz.
