Ace and Peter are huge parts of KISStory, but the band is bigger than them. Gene and Paul own "characters" And Gene once said once him and Paul stop once and for all, someone will step in to take their place.
Yeah...Gene and Paul mistake themselves for a football team or actors in a TV show. No matter how talented any replacement would me.No one can truly replace the original lineup and as competent as Tommy is and he is very good. Ace is a rocker and there is a difference in being a competent studio musician/stage hand gone "starter" but Ace will always have the legend that Tommy never will quite achieve with today's Kiss.

I'm 47 years old and have to say, Ace was the inspiration for me and so many others to play guitar. A mate played a KISS record for me in 1978 and I was sold. Out of all the KISS members, Ace was the best and still is. Keep rocking ACE. ! If I could play half as well as you I would consider that an achievement.

I just think the playing he did on this CD was pretty progressive for him and showed some growth as a player. It's the lyrics to some of the songs I didn't get at all. If you really think about it most of the best Comets lyrics were written by Todd. But Ace's playing on this was bang on.

@TheWheelofLife100 Actually, I CAN. I mix albums for a living and the last 5 I did have all been nominated for some very prestegious awards. That is why I am comfortable making the comments that I do. Anomaly is one of the worst mixes ever. That's not just my opinion, by the way. Most producers and recording engineers I have sopken with all say the same thing. A 5th grade student could have done a better job. Ace has a lot of "yes" people around him rather than honest people. Sad really.

But Gene once said theyre wearing that makeup because most of the new fans dont even know who Ace or Peter are and if you take a pic of KISS anywhere in the world, they'll know its KISS but not who the members are. So the point was that it doesnt matter whose wearing the makeup, essentially, because people want to see those characters yknow??

@deathdealeroen11 Paul has said "the characters are much bigger than the people behind them." I agree with him in part, but not as a whole. For example just because a person dresses up like Freddy Krueger, the character on "Nightmare on Elm Street", doesn't mean they're going to be as scary as the original. Same as with Ace. Sure, Tommy (respectfully) can wear the Spaceman's makeup, but it was Ace who was the original character and his lifestyle emulated what he portrayed, Tommy's doesn't.

@nikkitaseis I disagree. Maybe you're just in love with the makeup. I think he looks great. He looked beautiful in his 20s, but who didn't? I liked him with the makeup back in the day, but I think he looks good now as himself. I do wish he would take off the glasses. His eyes have always been his best feature because they're very unusual. See, Tommy doesn't have those eyes even with the makeup. But to each her own.

Tommys a great player!! But he isn't ace!! And he shouldn't he singing shock me!! Ace is the original and the best. He did stop developing as a guitar player. Kiss needs to get Tommy and Eric thee own personas!!!! Retire the ace and Peter costumes and make up or get them back!! Gene and Paul want everything there way!!! Ace is my hero!! Technically not the best guitarist, but from 1974-1979 he was untouchable and the best!!!

@Thesnag69 When Ace came back in 1996 he had forgotten most of his guitar parts. Tommy Thayer at that point was a stagehand and he had to teach Ace his parts. Ace and Peter are huge parts of KISStory, but the band is bigger than them. Gene and Paul own "characters" And Gene once said once him and Paul stop once and for all, someone will step in to take their place.

Yeah...Gene and Paul mistake themselves for a football team or actors in a TV show. No matter how talented any replacement would me.No one can truly replace the original lineup and as competent as Tommy is and he is very good. Ace is a rocker and there is a difference in being a competent studio musician/stage hand gone "starter" but Ace will always have the legend that Tommy never will quite achieve with today's Kiss.

@Thesnag69 Why can't Tommy do 'Shock Me' if Ace can do 'Deuce' and 'Shout It Out Loud' on his solo tour? He didn't write those ones. And besides, Ace sold the rights for 'Shock Me' to the KISS management.
Also, it's the KISS management that wanted the Space Ace and Catman outfits back... because they wanted to give the fans a concert more like the 70s KISS concerts. It's nothing to do with Paul and Gene.

I'm 47 years old and have to say, Ace was the inspiration for me and so many others to play guitar. A mate played a KISS record for me in 1978 and I was sold. Out of all the KISS members, Ace was the best and still is. Keep rocking ACE. ! If I could play half as well as you I would consider that an achievement.

@MetalHeart8787 I'm not saying the older stuff is bad... As a matter of fact when I heard that stuff years ago it upset me that some of the songs didn't end up on KISS albums. I just think the playing he did on this CD was pretty progressive for him and showed some growth as a player. It's the lyrics to some of the songs I didn't get at all. If you really think about it most of the best Comets lyrics were written by Todd. But Ace's playing on this was bang on.

Awsome interview!! Ace still rocks after all these years!Rocks harder than ever. He may look old, but to alot of us "original" female fans (I've been a fan for 32 years) he is still so cute that it's heart breaking! I'm so happy to see he's clean & sober. I do however, think black nail polish would look better.
