I have an AK 47 and it has one of these. What is it for? Are the numbers from 1 - 10 the amount of hundred yards you are shooting down? I notice at the range it is not accurate at all, but I didn't adjust the read sight. Is it better to keep it on or take it off? What's the benefit of taking it off, actually? Sorry to bug you w so many questions.
@MysteryoftheGods If your rear sight is working properly leave it alone. You only need to take it off to do repairs to the sight or rifle. The numbers are for changing the elevation from 100 meters to 1000 meters but it won't work if your front sight is not properly zeroed. To zero your front sight you will need a adj. tool & an AK zeroing target, you can find one to download on gunsnet.net by doing a search on their forum for "AK sight in target" it is on AK-Karl's post. Use it at 25 meters.
I have a problem, i removed my sight like this, put my new surplus Soviet One on and now the leaf sight is wobbling and loose and when i turn the Firearm Upside down the Sight hangs down....is their someway to tighten it in a sense? please help anyone??
@Evilsnowman2213 You may need to replace the sight leaf spring; this is the spring just under the rear sight.
To remove the sight leaf spring you first remove the rear sight, then pry up the spring slightly grab it with a needle nose pliers and pull it forward with a slight side to side motion, it should come out. To put the new one back in do just the reverse.
Wow...that was easy. I just went outside and did it to mine with a large philips screw driver with a towel over it to keep it from scratching. 5 seconds maybe. Thanks a lot man...I had been wondering how to do that.
treverlid87.. That is why I posted it on here, a lot of people will tear up there guns trying to get it off & it is just not that hard.
Builder012.. I replace it just about the way that LaksaMedan has posted, if you are still having trouble with it I will try to get a video posted.
If anyone is having a problem with any other part of AK building try posting your question on one or all of these forums. Gunco.net, the ak forum.net, or ak files.com, these guys have helped me many times.
Yep, I noticed your customization to the wooden dowel and ran to the garage and found a stick similar in size. I replaced my front sight post with a kensight tritium setup and the rear with the williams peep. I really like it a lot better than the blades and black post!
After watching your video, that damn thing popped out slicker than snot. I felt a lot better about my purchase then!

All I can say is WOW!
But now can you show me an easy to put it back on?
Builder012 2 years ago
On mine to put in back in
Line up the sight with the notch .
tilt/position the rear sigh at a 40 degree or so.
Pop / tap the rear of the sight with a heavy NON-MARRING rubber hammer.
the 40 tilt will direct the NON-MARRING hammer blow to depress the spring and driver the rear sight forward into the notch.
Good luck

This really would've saved my knuckles had I seen this earlier, did it by hand and killed my right thumb.

I got that far, but how the hell do you take the entire rear sight block off? Nice vid, btw, helped a lot.

Thank-you for saving me a lot of frustration. I wasn't sure how to go about this. You made my day!

You are welcome, a lot of AK owners try to make more of this than what it is.
Sometimes it takes more pressure than others but it will come off. As you notice a small notch in the stick will help you to push it back.
