I use a Van Eps string damper which works well, but I also make a thing called a SUS-GARD which I use sometimes when I don't want to take the Van Eps damper on the road.
@MiCompre - I've played through a Mini-Brute, an AER Compact 60, and a JazzKat - all are great small-room amps and comparing them with different guitars/pickups is always interesting - no single amp ever wins every time :) Cheers!
Hi thomascray. Do you (or anyone reading this) know if there is anything like a decent sounding guitar like yours in the budget marked?
I just LOVE the looks of those german style achtops with cat eyes soundholes :-) Like the Rickenbacker Jazzbo or Gretsch G3900 or Hofner Jazzica Custom.
These are all of course ridiculously expensive. Are there any affordable guitars like these, that sound ok? Thanks for any answers that may help.
@thomascray Thanks man :-) I really appreciate it. Checked out that guitar, and it looks sweet. Godin has understood a thing or to making these beauties afordable to "normal" people, with good sound. You have inspired me to learn to play that song. Hopefully on a guitar like that.
One more thing: If you use a DAW, Have you any idea of a guitar amp.simulation software that emulates or is close the sound that of an AER? :-)
@Hafrgraut hey, i dont know if youve bought a guitar yet or not, but try the john lennon casino, or just epiphone casino in general, but if youve got 3k lying around, definitely get a es335, legendary guitar, i was gonna get an epiphone casino, but i ended up not settling and just buckled down to save enough for the es335, best thing i ever did
@kontolraksasa Thanks for the tip man. I'll def check it out next time in the shop. Haven't bought an Archtop yet. I'm afraid I need to prioritize a new acustic first. Sell a couple of old ones to get one new that means..
Very well done. Nice colors in your harmony. Great tone.
I see you are a fan of Johnny Smith. Me too. I have several transcriptions of his chord melodies if you want them. Send me a note with your email address and I will send them to you.
Nicely done, 4 stars. Now is the time to put it to tempo. Not too fast, maybe 126. The challenge never stops...45 years of experience, and not done by a long way.

How is the Farrand string damper working for you? Does Pat still make them after his stroke?

Very sweet chords. Try a Polytone Mini-Brute Amp in a music shop. You will be converted. Nice playing...

@Hafrgraut, I suppose it depends on how much you have to spend. For a really inexpensive guitar I'd look to a Godin 5th Avenue.
Best of Luck,

Such a nice tone on that instrument. What kind of amp are you using? Heather and I used to sing this one all the time. I LOVE those classics!
