Get a wire or clothes hanger and wrap it around the tabs and create a loop that runs over the top of the EGR high enough to slide a cheater bar under and pri from the top of your alternator up and it will pop right out. Son of a BITCH!!! Woah!

OMG, this is the most redneck way to pull an EGR Valve.. What is the use if you need a new EGR cooler? You know coolant makes the soot cling to your valve that is why it is stuck. You twist then pull the valve. Spend 2 hours make a tool to get it out? hah
By the way, when you started the truck I knew, egr valve has nothing to do with it running rough... I have worked on enough of these to know, you either need a new injector or two a new FICM.... Learn before you waste your time with shit hahah
@RDPCEO EGR will cause it to run rough, I went thru the same thing on a 6.0. The valve would stick open and would run like a sack of shit. I also had injectors and the FICM go and those were only rough idles at start and once it was warm they would straighten out and run better. Also a scan tool would tell if it was miss firing or low voltage to the injectors from the FICM or the EGR so you learn your shit before you post. I've been thru everything that could go wrong with the 6.0
talked to my pros and they told me to come and test the acidity in the coolant once or twice a year (high acidity=sign of blockage in radiator inside egr cooler FROM CORROSION)but most and important...DON'T IDLE BIG DIRTY AND PUT THE PEDAL TO THE MEDAL AS OFTEN AS TRAFFIC ALLOWS YOU...PERIOD...
I'm not partial to any particular diesel truck (cummins, powerstroke, duramax) but I can see why one guy commented on one video calling the powerstroke a "powerjoke". Seems like a shit load of problems for a diesel... Please don't downthumb me, I just am laying it as it is.
I pulled mine with a small Crowbar or pry bar. I twisted it so the bolt flange turned over the small indention and lightly pried while pulling with my other hand. A ford tech showed me how to do that.
You can brush out the carbon build up inside the intake area, and starting the vehicle with the valve out and running the engine up for about 10 or 15 seconds.
BTW Guys, loved how you used almost every Canadian cliche in that video right down to Tim Horton's.
I was able to pull my EGR valve out with some 12 gauge wire i had lying around. I rotated the EGR valve so I could wrap the wire around it, under those 2 little flanges that the bolts go through. Then I pulled up on the wire and she came out real easy. Good thing I did it, too - she was a filthy son-of-a-bitch.
I have a 6.0TD and it ain't no fuckin joke! 2 things to help with the EGR: Go to harbor freight dot com and search for " 12" Solid Steel Pry Bar" to remove the EGR and "10 Ft. Vent Cleaning Brush" to clean out the manifold. I have to do mine soon so maybe I will record a response video as I work on that son of a bitch! HAHA I freakin LOVE this video!
lol all that to pull a egr valve wow i normally just take some wire wrap it thro the bolt holes on the valve and wrap it around a pipe put a peace of wood over the engine set the pipe against it and lift just like that your done it takes a hole 30 seconds to do

By "fix" the EGR problem, he really means block off the friggen ports and correct the computer. Bam, extra gas mileage and a long life on the motor. EGR is the worst thing for diesels.

those are also bad about having high pressure oil leaks that will make them run bad on a cold start or not start at all. the high pressure oil pump fitting has been updated. and there are 2 dumby plugs with 2 o-rings on each one.

i usually remove all that EGR crap and everything. i don't need it where i live, so i remove it if any of my vehicles has it. i have all older stuff now, so im pretty sure nothing i own has any of that crap... my 4x4 doesnt even need a cat :) its just old enough not to need one!

There are a couple companys that make "stealth'' EGR delete kits , they come with a new up pipe (since yours has a little scoop in it to help direct flow into the cooler) and a plug for the end of the egr cooler. That way the cooler can stay in but you dont have all that crap going into your engine ....also id get a coolant filter, all you need to buy is the filter manifold and the filters they rest is fittings and hoses
Hey pug you need to take that thing for a big drive on a highway doing at least 110 to clean that shit out..That carbon is a build up from short drives.
Just take all that EGR crap off of it, I took it off of my Cummins, replaced it with a non EGR intake and it runs much better, gets better mileage also.

That way the cooler can stay in but you dont have all that crap going into your engine ....also id get a coolant filter, all you need to buy is the filter manifold and the filters they rest is fittings and hoses

Just take all that EGR crap off of it, I took it off of my Cummins, replaced it with a non EGR intake and it runs much better, gets better mileage also.
