I love the way you glaze. The only thing I would say is with the video maybe do a time lapse, were your working on the same piece the whole time so it is easier to follow what your doing and how you get your results. Great work and thank you for sharing.
Mary, Thanks so much for sharing. I love your work. Wish you had a more detailed video on your technique and glazes you use. I know I would definitely purchase such video. Would love to know if you ever hold a workshop in L. A. area. I, unfortunately, was unable to attend San Diego Conference.
@free2throw At the Potters Council Conference in San Diego in February, Sherman Hall (editor of Ceramics Monthly), filmed me carving, slip trailing and glazing pots. Ceramics Arts Daily may put that up in the next month or so. I'ill let you know if they do. I think both David and I would be interested in doing a workshop in LA as a couple if the opportunity arises. Our next studio show will be May 1st & 2nd. You're welcome to come and see things up close and personal.
@DirtKickerStudio Thanks for asking about workshops. I just did a presentation for the Potters Council Conference in San Diego along with Tom & Elaine Coleman and Miera Mathison. What a rush that was. David put together a slightly longer version of this video for use there. We have kids in Asheville so we would love to do something there if we get the chance.
When I read the video title I couldn't believe my eyes. Thank you so much for inviting us to have a look at how your glazing process works. It is complex in deed, but you make it look easy. Youre a wonderful and inspiring potter.
Thank you so very much for sharing your glazing process and showing the finished pot.You inspire me to be more bold with my decorations. Thank you again, Claire
Wow, what a lot of TLC goes into your pots. Thank you for filming the process.
Your sprayer- I have one like it but notice that the glaze must be quite thin to avoid clogging. Do you thin your glazes a lot before spraying and does that affect how many layers you spray on?
@clayphoenix I do thin the glazes I spray. If you have problems with clogging, strain your glaze. Thinning affect the number of layers of glaze used. I usually do three thin layers. It takes trial and error to get a feel for it. If you do shallow carving/slip trailing, many glazes obscure the decorations. I suggest using a bunch of bisque "carved" shards for testing your glazes first. Good luck.
Fascinating video and very enlightening. However, I know I would never have the patience to go through so many stages. Apart from anything else I would forget which stage I had reached if I did more than one piece at a time!
@brookfieldpottery If you change your mind and decide to try this method of glazing: Write what you have done so far to your pot(s) and what you plan to do next on a piece of paper. Put that piece of paper inside or next to the pot(s)...
Love her glazing technique...so detailed and at the same time she makes it all look so easy! Thanks for sharing:) !

Mary, great video. You should do a video of how you make your bowls and how you do the slip trail decorations on them. You are a gifted potter.
