  • So cute

  • Is there an otter equivalent of CPS?

  • Otter pups have it better than Puffin chicks. They basically get tossed off a cliff. They either learn to fly or learn to swim after the first lesson. Failure to learn to fly means they get tossed off again.

  • We can't stop here little otter. This is banjo country.

  • omg lol i feel so bad for him his mom just keeps dragging him back in

  • lol EY MA!! THAT HURTS!! PUT ME DOWN MA!!

  • the baby otter is like " Noooo!!! i wanna get out!"

  • *Plonk* Get in there, you're going in and you're going to like it!! Sooooo cute, now thats a good Mum!! : D x x

  • the office =D

  • LOL love the beginning when she drag her kid down...

  • This is a good example of a land animal evolving slowly to become a marine animal. ("Back to the sea," in reality, after millions of years on land.)

The pups still have a distinctive fear of the unknown, strange, cold, & liquid world that is more at-home for their parents, whose survival depend on it, since they aren't fast enough to catch fast prey on land, with their limbs having been slowly shaped to function more efficiently in water.

    Evolution at work.

  • I love this!! Despite spending 50+ years watching nature shows on TV, I never knew baby otters had to be taught to swim. It was incredible watching mom go through the different stages with her baby, & the techniques she employed to teach him (her?)--thanks again!

  • 4 people have no heart

  • Otters are way too awesome to be in this otherwise retarded world.

  • OSHAWOTT I CHOOSE YOU

  • nooooo you cant make me go in there

  • Oh my gosh. Too cute for words!

  • Otterly ridiculous!

  • SOOOOO CUTTTEEEEEE!!!!!

  • Thiswas so cute that baby wanted dry land Asap

  • Asking if swimming lessons would make humans evolve into a marine animals, to live totally in the sea, is like asking whether if YOU eat too much at MacDonald's would make YOU into the founder of the food chain or, better yet, a COW itself. It is, at best, a meaningless question. [Swimming lessons ensure that you won't drown falling into a lake/river as an individual; but a lot of good human swimmers won't make homo sapiens full time marine animals any time soon!] lol

  • @HenryDavidT ursulamargrit favorited a video where technology was postulated to have come from extraterrestrials...one must believe such if they feel evolution is bunk.

  • @NoSheep2 Even if technology did come from ET's of, say,50 mil. yrs older & more advanced than homo sapiens, it still doesn't matter. It's IMPOSSIBLE & illogical for them (their "creator") to pop out of nowhere having the ability/power to create/control all the constants of nature, to come up with (1) all the subparticles in the quantum world & (2) all the genes that control every living thing's biochemical activities by waving ITS HAND, wishing it so! That's 4-5 year old's FAIRY TALES.

  • "Are you saying that because we can learn to swim, and have swimming lessons, we are evolving into 'water animals', too?" Animals evolve and adapt to a way of life that enable them to perpetuate themselves as a species, OR they die. [Sudden global catastrophes also wipe out millions of species, allowing others to come later to take their place.] Humans having "swimming lessons" is not in THAT kind of order of adaptive magnitude.

  • 25

    let me goooooo

  • @HenryDavidT - you do realize that acquired skills aren't hereditable, right? A mutant otter that could swim at birth would probably be fitter, but they don't get there through (adorable) lessons.

  • Classic case of a land-based animal slowly evolving to become a marine animal, following similar path to the whale, seal, etc. The pups not knowing how to swim but physically made to swim shows the species strong terrestrial tie. More subtle & slower than viral mutation, into super "bugs," to fight against ever-more potent synthetic drugs by man, within 50 years, but it's the same evolutionary activity. Evolutionary biology, at the macro level, in slow motion.

  • @HenryDavidT Classic case of a land animal evolving into what? Otters have always been otters, just like beavers aren't evolving into water animals, or river rats ... neither are otters. You're making assumptions based on your beliefs. Because that is all evolution is, a belief (religion) without any basis in fact whatsoever.

Are you saying that because we can learn to swim, and have swimming lessons, we are evolving into 'water animals', too?

  • @ursulamargrit While I realize this is YouTube, invented less than 10 years ago, it won't stay like this for ever... There is no such a thing an "otter" intrinsically. An "otter" is just an English name given to an land animal that has slowly evolved into becoming a water animal. It is a BELIEF to say "things, animals, & the universe have always been this way." FACT says that ALL things, processes, life forms, & events CHANGE over time. Whether you know or understand it, is INCONSEQUENTIAL.

  • Paddle faster, little otter! I hear banjos!

  • Ohio is just really, really nice.

  • I'm not drowning people, I'm giving them a diving lesson!

  • Adorable! Sure glad my mother didn't drag me with my leg in her mouth into the water to try to teach me how to swim!

  • 0:16 - 0:32 No no its all wet, stop biteing me!! why its so cold, must reach branch......., awwwwww fk i slipped...... DADDY!!!!!!!!

  • Too cute for words. :P

  • Soooo Adorable!!!

  • 0:26 Baby Otter: DO NOT WANT!!!!

    Mama Otter: Git in here!

  • one person's mother never taught them to swim.

  • I love how the mom otter just pull the baby's foot like saying "get your butt in the water!". <3 i always think otters are so human-like.

  • zomg! I heart otters sew much! XD I love otters. They're so cute and playful!

  • Incredible

  • Some of them swim on a river in my town. Pretty cool little guys

  • That was the best otter video I have ever seen. Thank you so much!

  • it s not just funny . it s also philosophically... to see us in theses puppies being teached by Our Father.

  • Adorable. I wish I could have them as pets.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song?

  • Hey kid -shoves head in water-

Funny how humans learn the same way

  • Being an otter mom looks super fun. Being an otter looks super fun.

  • Damn, i should get an otter to teach my dumb kids

  • @tiger55331 LOL! you have no idea how hard I laughed at your comment

  • Great otter mom.

  • This is so wonderful!

  • fail. :) jk everyone :)

  • Hey-my grandfather just threw my mom off a bridge into a local creek here-sweetwater, and she HAD to swim or drown! this mama otter is MUCH more loving & patient! Just adorable!!!!

  • @debrawoodard1 This otter is lucky. Hopefully your mom learned to swim. I wished I had a parent or relative to teach me how to swim. I can only swim a bit, I was afraid to drown. I never drown though.

  • Some of these comments here are hilarious. lol

  • humph, reminds me of how me teacher's methods were, when I was learning to swim.

  • I like how the pup is trying to get out and she pulls it back in. lol

  • Dear Rostine 1980,

    Thank you very very much!!!!!!!!!

    Regards from Brazil!!!

  • @Damarcord...its I.P.Freely. the song is called yellow river blues!

  • She's making sure he takes a bath! I used to drag my son into the tub like that.

    Just kidding. 8^}

  • Impressive... but I'm not sure there was enough theory work to constitute being "taught". If our swimming coach taught us like that, several kids would have died on the first day, and he'd be in jail.

Let alone I don't recall ever ending the lesson being dragged out of the swimming pool by my left ear

  • @TheSuperFluid true, lol

  • @TheSuperFluid shut up

  • @shackelfrdace69 why are people telling others to shut

up on here. it's not only childish it's a free country

  • @MrElectrician59 its also childish to think you're more intelligent than an educational video. im talking about my first reply not you.

  • @shackelfrdace69 I just disike people telling others

to shut up when it's a free country, at least I still think it is.

I think that guy was just kidding anyway.

  • Oh Mommie it's cold!

  • Hi, could anyone tell me the name of the song and who is it playing the banjo, pleeeeeeeeaaaaase????? :-)

  • haha she shoves its entire head under water LOL XD

  • 1:10 VULCAN DEATH NECK GRIP

  • pause at 1:09 the otter is liek.. holy crap let me leave

  • The pup tries to get out and she grabs his foot and pulls him back in. LOL.

  • Does anybody know what the banjo tune is? And the tuniong?

  • i love how it instinctively reacts to get OUT OF THE WATER because that's where mammals go to drown. very interesting

  • @Craigipedia

Just watched this...fascinating to see how momma teaches baby...gentle, but firm. They're so cute!

  • shes like "come on in the waters fine."

  • I'm glad there in a zoo and not munching on freshwater fish which i love much more, saying all that these could be sea otters. if that's so then good luck to them

  • The video is a very nice break from the world...thanks

  • @kenmtb This is the world. Obviously not all of it, but still part of the "real world".

  • adorable

  • All aquatic mammals that are born on land go through this, their mommas have to drag them in the water and teach them. Sadly, the otter mama is a better swim teacher than many humans, since at least she's behind the baby all the way.

  • @dementadoom;

    And otters are clver!

Usually parents try to teach their kids straight to swimming, forgetting the floating and "learning not to panic in water" stages.

Otters do it in right order. To float -> to be comfortable in water when you know water carries you -> swimming -> diving.

Some swimming schools actually use that technique these days and kids learn to swimming pretty fast.

  • naaaw :3

  • This is how I learned to swim... "Throw him in the deep end, he'll have to learn!"

  • @Ethxn456qsc yeah me too, i remember my mom dunking my head under the water just like un the video

  • Does anyone know the name or artist of this song?

  • @obsessong you found me by the fray

  • OMG. This is adorable.

  • Moooooooooooom!!! I'm coooooooooooooooooooooooold!

  • @ninahagen9 I mean, teeth-chatteringly, f*****g freezing!!!!!

  • aaaaaww :) so cute

  • That is the most precious thing I've ever seen...I just presumed they came out knowing how to swim....wish I'd had an Otter for a Mom - I still can't swim. Ha! Anna

  • @AnnaLee56;

You need to practise with "Otter order" :-)

First, learn to float on your back, then to float on your stomach in "turtle position" (in fetal position holding your knees with one arm and nose with the other), after that swimming and lastly to dive.

I was really worse in swimming until I was 20 or 21. Then I spent summer in place where was clear-water pond nearby and I went there practising swimming every evening after the noisy kids had left the beach.

  • @StarlingKnight;

Around beginning of August I had learnt to float, to swim pretty well and I was practising diving without snorkel.

It took about 2 summers until I had mastered the skills. These days I'm much like otter in the water. Or maybe more like seacow... *pokes his not-so flat stomach* :P

  • this is nothing short of animal cruelty. President Obama needs to put an end to this kind of thing.

  • @xravisn

    huh?

  • @xravisn Are you a kook or what?

  • @xravisn There is no animal cruelty in this video. The mom otter is teaching her child how to swim. I agree that animal cruelty must stop right now.

  • I love it

  • I am opposed to animal prisons, and, especially, breeding babies for imprisonment.

  • @juslookin3 And you actually watched the otter video? What are you talking about?

  • Learning to swim is a tough job even for experts it seems :)

  • Didn't know this but it is sooo amazing and beautiful...

  • LoL "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo waterboarding is illegal!

  • Ahhh, wasn't this part of The Office: Whistleblower episode?

  • Great video and message. It is a perfect companion to the children's water safety book "Josh The Baby Otter".

  • during that, the stupid otter dad just was just taping this? how awful.

  • According to Karen Pryor, otters are notoriously difficult to behaviorally condition because they are so bright and creative they rarely display the same behavior twice.

  • MAAAHHHHM....MAAAAHHHHHHM! Would you quit draggin me around by my ear like I'm some kind of baby? All my friends can see!

  • Otters are the best!!!

  • " MOM!! I DONT WANNA DIE!!"

  • I wonder how many of her kids died due to her 'lessons'.
