In medieval Japan the bow strength were measured in *how many men it took to string them* - and I can easily string my 50 lbs kyudo bow myself - so an 150+ lbs bow would be historically correct. Not a <5 lbs draw like this joke ;)
---------------------------------------
That said, Ninjas (as in "black clad super villains") were invented in the last century. Them existing in historical times is just a MYTH (like Vikings having horned helmets or that Marco Polo travelled outside Europe...).
its because basic bow is being used here which has a low velocity for the arrow. Try using the professional recurve or compound bow with a 40lbs tension string....can he still catch the arrow?....hhhmmmnnn.....
i saw a program on quest where a guy cut a bb in half that was fired at him, first time he hit it second time he cut it in half. The bb was fired 50 yards away he took his sword out of the sleeve and cut it in half not just a matter of good positioning
Anyone can catch the arrow, you require a few things though. The stupidity to decide you're going to go through with it and the luck to not get killed by your friend on your first attempt, worked for me anyway. I could never do it three times in a row, so I'm not getting any records The candle is harder in my opinion. You're trying to break the flame from fuel and oxygen by pushing oxygen at it.
@psychedashell obviously, you're supposed to use non-lethal arrows if u want to try lol. If u actually did it with a real arrow, you're crazy but gj ^^
@KonaitouQ2 The only way to make an arrow non lethal is to fire it slowly, if it hits your head a blunt or padded arrow can still kill you, I caught target arrows, the head is pointy, but not a blade like a hunting arrow. It was a dare after watching guiness world records.
ok, consider this.. these days, most martial arts practitioners also have to hold down day jobs and their lives mostly don't depend on getting it exactly right.. so just showing that it CAN be done is enough that you can infer someone could have done it even better if they trained 8 to 12 hours a day for ten, twenty, thirty years..
It's all pretty much a misnomer. Sort of "proof of training" things that martial artists do to show off skills. Not that this makes him ANY less of an athlete. Being able to catch or hit an arrow mid-flight is an amazing skill for anyone to perform.
"that isnt 170 mph omg their is another video where a guy shoot with his compound bow and his friend have to catch him and that was 100 mph ,,this bow cant shot at 170 mph sure" Think about what your saying.. A ML baseball player can THROW A BALL 100 MPH... The recurve he is shooting will launch an arrow at about 190fps.. Which is 130mph.. A modern compound bow will launch an arrow at 285fps or about 200mph... Something is very wrong with your friends compound bow.

@ekimzj Considering that the compound bow was developed centuries after ninjas, that wouldn't be very historically accurate. hm...

That arrow he caught was dead slow, it barely made it all the way. The bow was only partially wound up.

@jedrinck safety first you can't expect them to fire an arrow at someone as fast as they possibly can. there are harder ways to kill people you know.

He gotta build up his adrenaline first. Then hes brain is speeded up and get better reflexes.

Perhaps you should build up your adrenaline before typing...

@darkultra It doesn't even necessarily require the adrenaline. Through repetitive training you can improve your reflex speed quite a bit.
