@DjReLaX231 He was the drvier who scored the most points the season before, as Prost had taken a sabbatical. Williams was the constructor's champion, but none of their two drivers could use number 1, as Nigel Mansell had fled to America. Damon Hill then went for number 0, in the same way that he wore that same number in 1994.
@Hasselnorris its the FW15 not 14,but yes it did practically drive itself.
And with Prost behind the weel it drove even better. And another thing this clip shows us is the class of Prost and Senna the were in a they were in a leguage of their own. Prost almost unstoppeble in the Williams and the only one that was close to him in the beginning of the Race was Senna.
Yet Mansell won more races and scored more points in the FW14 than Prost managed in the FW15.
It was typical of Prost to position himself for a Williams drive in 1993 and force Mansell out. Prost was a politician off the track and a fairly boring, by-the-numbers, driver on it.
Prost never had the true racer's instinct of Senna or Mansell. Whilst Prost was busy underperforming the FW15, Mansell was winning a title in another country at the first time of asking. Says it all.
@berlinmitte10117, I know who James Hunt is. Great McLaren driver in the seventies with an unique cool and laid-back character. Won the championship of 1976 with one point over Nikolaus Lauda, who amazingly returned to the sport after his horrific crash on the Nürburgring.
You got to give me some slack though as I am not British, therefor I do not know every commentator that has commentated a Grand Prix on British TV.
@berlinmitte10117 : Maybe there are countries in the world than Great Britain. Behold the facts you dont know about anything not on the little island. Putting "great" before the name, doesn't change that. Do you know The Great Leader ?
you see, there are many countries in the world, and just as many broadcasts on tv wordlwide. to know James Hunt's or anybody else's voice is not compulsory.
really? so, according to your comment, today's f1 cars are a bit faster than gp-2?! so how will you explain the simple fact that, back in 1993, prost won that pole position with the time 1:20.557, while it took Webber 1:13.826 to grab pole in 2010. both in dry conditions. so tell me again how slow those cars are nowadays. but I can still agree on 1 thing with you. that it was much more exciting back in the 90's
@mkorona1984 Of course they are faster than ten years ago but last year the fastest GP2 was just a bit slower than HRT. Formula one should be the biggest bad ass machine the whole race. Not just pressing some buttons to overtake.
@Kyoshomies yeah, I can see your point. f1 should be by far the most powerful series of them all. besides it's all got too confusing, there's too much messing about with KERS, adjustable wings, then they can only use it after a certain number of laps, under certain circumstances, blah blah blah. then they started talking about artificial rain. I mean, wtf?!?! it's all going to the dogs
@mkorona1984 And FIA's rules are unlogical. Engines are limited so teams have to focus on aerodynamics -> overtakeing is more difficult -> stupid rules to get more overtakes. And why FIA bannes every new invention which teams was forced to invent (doublediffusor) ? I think that enginedevelopment should be free again. If it's too expensive, limit the number of engines. So teams has to think how tight they can screw their engines without blowing them.
@mkorona1984 i believe so. i start to see f1 since ayrtons dead...and by the year of 1998/99/2000 the f1 was super boring...maybe because they change tires rules, no more slick tires ?? and you praticaly didn´t saw overtakes at all, maybe in the pit stop you have some position changes, whit lucky!!
I am searching f1 of the 80´s and it was mutch more competitive in the track...maybe because there was huge drivers too and the cars have not computers help, but more overtakes...
James Hunt was totally correct in saying that accident was not Andretti's fault because Wendlinger cut him off and forced him into Berger's path. Michael had the talent to be in F1, but he joined McLaren at the wrong time as well as the "commuting" between Philadelphia and Europe for test sessions and race weekends along with the change in practice and qualifying rules for that season.
Only F1 bureaucrat worshipping, America haters continue to put down world class race drivers like Andretti. For the amount of testing he had with F1, he's probably in the top 5 of all modern time. All the other Euro/South American drivers were born and raised on shifter karts, then the F1 ladder. I'd challenge ANY driver on the planet to jump in one of those cars from that era and put yourself on the podium in only a few races, which he did in Italy!
Andretti didn't score a podium until the thirteenth race, by which time Senna had scored three wins and two seconds. Admittedly the F1 car is a different beast to the Indycar, and the McLaren was far from the fastest car, but this is no excuse. Nigel Mansell won his first Indycar race after switching from F1.
The fact he did not enough testing was his fault. He did not make the commitment to live in Europe and be near the factory and it showed in his dismal performances.
agree . mario said that michael s move of does not live in europe was a mistake... but we can see clearly the same thing happening nowadays in renault.... piquet jr does not have a chance to be compared with two time champion alonso.. he s a rookie together with a giant.. no comparison.. my friend ..cheers from brasil
agree with something with ya .... my friend ... but the poor amount of testing was his own fault... i think he s a great driver , while i think that kyle busch and jeff gordon are too .. and i think they would be succesful in an open wheel challenge like formula one... just one point ... different schools ya re right .. but when you pick some drivers who during the past yearmade the inverse move .. ya can see that they ve achieved more succes like mansell , E.fittipaldi , etc... cheers brasil
I am not gonna go as far as that. I am a fan of Andretti, and here in the US he is well reconized. He had committment issues but the going up along side the greatest racing driver who ever lived, is gonna make difficult. He wasn't suited for F1 and other F1 drivers treated him with little respect outside of Senna. Villenueve didn't seem to have a lot of problems switching over.
poor andretti , did not finished that season , which i think it was non sense move of mclaren , he would handle the car if they had give him more chance and timing ...
