I don't think it's possible to say which is harder. That just depends on the athletes level of intensity. However, I find it's easier to be lazy on the bike. You can stop peddling and still be moving forward...doesn't quite work while running.
hahaha these are the dumbest posts I've ever seen. "Running is harder" "Nu-uuhn. Biking is harder." Well, my dad can beat up your dad, and you guys are faggots.
@Asharpshooter96 HAHAHA! Right... I don't know about that. I only see a handful of competitive cyclists here in NYC while there are thousands of runners... hundreds of which are considered to be competitive on a regional level and still others who are elite. Regardless, the Leadville 100 is a RUNNER's race and a finish there on foot is much more impressive than that on a machine. Don't get me wrong, cycling is great, but even Armstrong said he never suffered like he did when ran his marathon
@ATMfromNJ well because in nyc they would get hit by cars since the traffic. and i sure dont see them making a movie about the running race in theaters like they done for the biking race . and they also dont make a race that is viewed on tv for almost a month for runners like they do for biking (Tour De France)and thats because running is the most boring ever and it takes no skill . I would also like to see these "runners" get on a bike and do a damn sport that actually takes skill.
@Asharpshooter96 Do you actually believe that running competitively doesn't take skill? What an asinine comment. Try telling someone who just qualified for Boston that it takes no skill. Maybe you can talk to a few Iron Men and pitch that comment to them. I cannot disagree with you when it comes to television and media coverage, but that is irrelevant in this discussion. You're obviously not a runner so you don't get it. That's cool. Just admit to that instead of resorting to cheap shots.
@ATMfromNJ well all that i see them do is run thats it so all that means is endurance. cycling takes endurance plus you have to work on cadeance, speed, repairing your bike, the fact that you actually can get badly injured, pacing yourself, when to sprint, when to slow down, technical parts of trails, tough descents (downhills), oh and much more but all running takes is running oh and you might just have to tie your shoes .
@Asharpshooter96 Everything except the bike repairs and the gnarly crashes hold true in running as well. Obviously you are not a runner so you don't this. Like they say "we mock what we don't understand." Try competitive running for a few years and then comment on how running (not jogging, but really running well during endurance races) does not take skill. Until then, it just sounds like you're hating without any knowledge to back up your negativity.
@Asharpshooter96 Are you fucking retarded you don't think knowing when to sprint or slow down has anything to do with running? Have you ever even seen anyone run? Do you have a brain?
shame they call this the Leadville 100...if they were proper men, they'd get off their stupid mechanical horses and run. That's the true Leadville 100...doping t***s!
@HallsUnited01 Way to be exactly what ultra running isn't about, a jug head. Dude everyone has a different sport, its whatever is comfortable for the individual and whatever furthers you as a person.
The "mechanical horse" only transfer the power of your legs to the wheel. Also, you can't use the pendulum motion of you hands and torso to your advantage as in running, it's pure leg strength and stamina. So, please, don't be insulting if you don't know the sport. And I love running I have run a dozen marathon trails.
This guy is the Lance Armstrong of Leadville, it shouldn't come as a surprise he beat Armstrong. That being said, with just a little more preparation Lance probably would have won, best biker ever.
