I was only 11 when this happened. I just started watching WCW months before this so I knew of Ric Flair. Man if I was older this would have been such an awesome moment. I was too young to realize how big a deal this was
1990-91 was the best, and 1991 promised some amazing storylines that for one reason or another didn't really go anywhere. Kinda disappointing and with an increase in REALLY bad gimmicks, lots of people coming/going/coming back and endless face/heel turns i lost interest by 92, as did a lot of people :(
Man oh man when I first saw this as a kid I thought I was in the twlight zone. Ric Flair in WWF. No way. He wasn't a turncoat, he was all WCW but there he was with the title. This made me sick to my stomach.
Who cares that they didn't wrestle at WM 8. We got a much better match with Savage and Flair. The only thing they dropped the ball on was putting the match in the middle of the card. Instead they let Hogan and that idiot Sid be the Main Event.
I saw Hogan wrestle Flair in L.A. in a build-up to a potential WM match that obviously never happened , but I still treasure seeing those two in a ring together.
All these people were WWF employees, Vince made them stay late to be the 'audience' for these shows, without extra pay. And Hogan and Flair did a series of house-show matches but they didn't click like the WWF thought they ought for a match of that caliber.
Fans were very markish back then .Now if a top heel debuted in a company, theyd get cheered, like if Miz or Wade Barrett appeared in TNA theyd get a pop.
@adheckle Well they actually did wrestle in some small barely-advertised event but where Vin man really dropped the ball was not having a Hogan-Flair match at Wrestlemania.
@adheckle that's not true at all.. his plan was to have them wrestle at WM 8 .. but in order to see if it would work they had matches around the country, advertised them as main events but the matches didn't go over well enough to sell vince on banking his main event on flair and hogan..
@adheckle they wrestled on house shows, and they were supposed to fight at WM8 but their egos got in the way and they couldint come up with a finish, so it was changed...so Vince didnt drop anything
that man can cut a promo. no one in today's wrestling world can have mic skills like the nature boy. wwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Notice when Flair made the inuendo to that woman there was NO reaction. The WWF audience wasn't nearly as grown up as the NWA/WCW audience. Maybe that's why Flair wasn't as over as he should've been in WWF between 91-93-They just didn't get him.
@theenforcer1977 This is still alot better than the kiddie crowd we have today. At least the matches back then were good and looked real unlike today's WWE....
I think Flair's debut along with the Madusa stunt of 1995 were the only times were a championship belt was showed in a rival organization, Vince was so scared of it happening once again in 1997 that he set up the whole Montreal Screwjob
@wcfradmuehl at the time it was the second version of the NWA Heavyweight Championship.. It was called that at the time while they were changing the company.
"Here's Hulk Hogan, whoopee big deal" .. Bobby Heenan is the Ric Flair of Management/Commentary. Genius.

So what happened to the Big Gold Belt after Flair brought it over? Did they phase it out?
Joobs0917 8 months ago
@Joobs0917 That belt was his. He paid the NWA the 25,000 dollars for it.
yardlet6 7 months ago
@Joobs0917 i think the NWA gave him his deposit back and he gave it back. Look up "Big Gold Belt" on answersdotcom for details on it.
