Ironic that the tripods in the 2005 movie look aquatic, like jellyfish, and yet in the novel by H.G. Wells the Martians have no concept of water. Way to go paying attention to minor little details there, Mr Spielberg.

Wells says in the very first chapter that one of the reasons the Martians are even seeking to conquer Earth is because their OCEANS have shrunk and their only WATER has now collected at the poles and is frozen. Therefore they have a huge concept of water - that it is necessary to support life.
@edinscot56789 if they have no concept of water.... then how could they have a concept of jellyfish? It could be the shape of anything, a human can only associate the shape with the only thing they know remotely close to it which is a jellyfish.
