  • Love The Reels....

  • Thanks so much for posting this -what a blast from a long ago past :) Just bought "Reelsville" on eBay -disappointed it doesnt have this track on it! i wonder why not -and Shout and Deliver?

  • Impossible to dislike this song.

  • The Reels did a great slow pop rock cover of CCR's Bad Moon Rising in 1986, see if you can find it. It is as good as their other songs.

  • @FOX9746 You're right.

    I assume you're an Aussie.

The Reels did covers of numerous songs that should have been on vinyl and there for future generations to experience.

Aside from their own original work, they should have been up there with other Aussie and Kiwi bands with equal recognition of their brilliance.

    Such is life.

  • amazingly tropical.

  • Not only did that guy's friend's dad write this song, and the guy below me, dad was thanked on the sleeve. They also shook my dad's hand outside the Ala Glen hotel, Sydney, circa 1981, and you know what...it was total cool.

  • They thanked my Dad on the sleeve of this album. I thought that was so cool

  • the reels were good back in the days, may sound gay but has a grovey beat. o yeah baby get down love will fid a way lol.

  • The Meeting is super right on new wave synth hit from this same album

  • One of the most underated australian bands, thanks for the post. I hope many more people will get to experience some great music from this wonderful band :-)

  • what a snappy little tune.... go Dave. The Reels bring back so many memories. What a different place Oz used to be back in the 1980's.

  • That keyboard riff is insanely happy.

    Which is a good thing!

    Thanks for the upload.

  • LOVED this band soooo much....sheer gold

  • Dave Mason was able to capture the atmosphere of the 80s with his insightful lyrics and quirky poppy tunes. My dad loves this band, (written by Myron on Lucy's Login.

  • Hey does the lead singer in the Reels look like a young 'PAUL CLITHEROE' ? lol does anybody know?

  • @countryair4me who is paul clitheroe????

  • So infectious, still makes me want to jump up and down on the spot. Has it really been 30 years? Must be, I saw them at Uni !

  • saw them in 78 at hearts fitzroy melbourne

  • Is this possibly the earliest example of oz new wave?

  • this is ska

  • I absolutely LOVED the first Reels album when it came out - and still do. This is Pop Gold!! Yeah, and Spot the Ridge...they're all good. I read back then that some tracks were recorded at a slower tempo and then sped up to create the 'snappy pop' sound. And it worked!

  • Fan for life. I saw their first gig in Melbourne downstairs at Bombay Rock...supporting John English (upstairs).

I agree rayseen...1st album is a spinout. I still listen to it very regularly. btw has anybody got the lyrics to Spot the Ridge...I want to cover it in our band.

Thanks for posting this timeless aussie gold.

  • Hey ny friends dad wrote this song!!! Its really gud ey?! lol and her dad is super cool!!!

  • Your friend's dad is Dave Mason?

  • omg paul mac did an arangement of this song for gondwana it was awesome! The original is more awesome though! :p

  • Very, very nice!

  • Ahh I used to love seeing the Reels by Candlelight every December at the Club in Collingwood in the late 80s!

  • how about 30 years ahead of the whole world??..... if it was now it would be a worldwide mega hit with it being used to sell a TV program. Just unreal from any perspective!

  • You are 100% right.

This was even before the ska revival! I had no words to describe this sound when it first came out!

  • Could you put the lyrics in the video description. I cant find them anywhere!

    Thanks

I love this song, cheered me up through hard times.

  • They were such a great live band. I saw them when they were still the Brucelanders at the Stagedoor Tavern in Sydney.

I was spun out by the 1st album punky fast, ska choppy and supermelodic - as demonstrated when they slowed the songs down for later rerecordings .

    Thanks nzoz.

  • nzoz, you're a champion mate. I saw these guys at an Acland St. Festival - shortly after their K-tel album. Ah, memories.

  • no worries mate
