Similarly, the British L85A1 (or SA80) was considered to be the worst battlefield weapon since praying, when it was introduced in the late 80's. After sending 200,000 of them to H&K (Brit owned btw) they are now awesome! goes to show!

@syafsyaf8 A silencer is to not be completely silent because there are other things about a gun that aren't silent, the bolt slamming shut for example. What the silencer does is change the sound so much that it doesn't sound like a gun shot and it DOES muffle the report of the round going off. The bullet, if supersonic, will still make a snapping sound because it breaks the sound barrier. Overall, it quiets the sound and changes the sound to not sound like a gun shot.

In any sense that's the ultimate role of a heavy gunner anyways. I'd assume this was a Vietnamese conflict, correct me if I'm wrong, so the wounds inflicted on him were likely 7.62x39 which are well known to create very mild, almost pistol-like wounds. So I wouldn't have expected a round or two to drop a soldier. Imagine him with a SAW, =D
