Replacing John is like replacing a lost family member: it can't be done. John was perfection; nobody can do the beautiful things he does, the way he does. The RHCP will never be the same.
Smile though, this is a new chapter. I have hope, you should too.
1. Nobody can take my memories of JF away. John's music will live on forever.
2. Klinghoffer = best case scenario "replacement-" what a gifted man.
It's impossible to fit all of Frusciante's "best solos" into a ten-minute video. I agree, though, I could have lied is one of my favorite Chilis tunes.
I love RHCP :) hence the name ;) new album should be excellent even without john, sure he was amazing but josh klinghoffer seems pretty ace too :) we have flea chad an anthony, what a line up and im sure johnny will be back, he's done it before right ? :D
been a chilis fan since i was five and i know they dont need john, they have chad! the Flea! and Anthony! and ive read the new guys wiki and he plays like 5 diff instruments, only time and the new album will show that he can fill johns place long live RHCP!
I'm yet to find a chilis song I dislike. Learned the solo from readymade today, oh clean it up Johnny! is that a Mario sound in she's only 18 solo? :p
u dont judge music by its popularity, good music stands out from the others no matter what, these overplayed music doesnt mean they are good or bad, it just means many people like it, and vice versa, as simple as that
i love john and i think he is better then hendrix thats not to say that hendrix isnt the best coz he is but if you asked me little wing or carvel i would say carvel 100% of the time fck ill miss him and i hope josh is up to him

Every single Frusciante solo is an emotional guitargasm that no other guitar can recreate. Joh Frusciante is one, and will be forever, one of the best guitarist in this universe.
A good list of favourite solos (from Stadium Arcadium), but I would find it hard to leave out: Hey, Wet Sand, Dani California, 21st Centuary, She's Only 18, Mercy Mercy ... damn, they'll all just too good.
If I had to pick my favorite solos these would be it.
Nice job.
As for John, yeah he's gone, but Josh Klinghoffer is damn good too. It will be interesting to see how he meshes with the rest of the band seeing as John has been "training" him since the Ataxia days. As for John's solo stuff, it is on another level. The man has a gift. And i have a feeling like he'll come back once he's done with his solo stuff. Just give him time. Frusciante is the man, my inspiration for playing.
I consider myself a fan, but I listen to mostly singles and b-sides, but I can't stand some of their popular shit, like "By The Way," but I love "Californication," "Scar Tissue," "Can't Stop," etc. I used to hate "Dani California" because it was overplayed, but now it's one of my favorites. Each time I tune in, it gets better and better, mainly because of Frusciante's excellent guitar work AND vocal harmony.
sad John is gone, but if the Chili Peppers could make it through the death of a man like Hillel Slovak dying, they can make it without Frusciante and still be great.
Yeah but the flaw in your point is that your assuming that Klinghoffer is going to sound just like John Frusciante and make the band sonically the same. JF is one of the most unique guitar players ever, he can't just be replace. People said the same thing your saying now 15 years ago when Navarro took over and look how that turned out.
That being said even though I feel that the chili peppers are going to sound very different now the JF is gone they are still be great.
@koolmaaan Ohh i completly disagree with that. What do you mean look how that turned out? One Hot Minute was a great album. Navarro is a great guitarist. It was still leauges better than anything after it. John is one of my favorite guitarists so don't give me a history lesson on him cause i know it all. haha. They said, Hillel was irreplaceable, the found John. All I'm saying is that no one is even giving Klinghoffer the benefit of the doubt. Give the kid a shot.
you missed what I was saying. One hot minute is not really a goodalbum IMHO. Navarro and keidis were both going through heroin addictions, and flea had to actually write guitar parts, which is not his forte. the album is messy and unfocused.
Hillell WAS irreplacable, almost like Navarro WAS Irreplacable. Each guitarist brings something new to the table. I actually think klinghoffer is going to work out fine. But just because people are hating on him doesn't mean THAT I AM.
@koolmaaan That's crazy talk. OHM is a fine album. Any guitarist is technically replaceable. RHCP have proven they work with with plenty of guitarists. So what if they were going through drug addictions? I believe atleast half to 3/4 of the bands members on any pre Californication album were going through drug addictions. And who says Flea can't write guitar parts?
OHM is lots of things, messy is not one of them. The last album where they really sounded like they had lots of energy.
@GRIFpenguin I've been listening to OHM more recently. It's not a bad album.
But A) JF is one not replacable. You can't copy his sound. Dave Navarro is a really fine guitarist. But he and the rest of the band admitted he wasn't the right fit. Flea said himself "Dave is a great METAL guitarist". If your going to get into technicalities then of course anyone can be replacable. But by your logic, YOU could be the next guitarist of the Chili Peppers.
@koolmaaan " But by your logic, YOU could be the next guitarist of the Chili Peppers."
Lol exactly, by all means I COULD become the next RHCP guiarist. It's a 1 out of a billion chance, but hey, who knows. And I'm not so sure about the whole "you can't copy John's style" thing. I mean, for a bit there John was just copying Hillel. Now of course he developed his own style. Though I will say I think Hillel was the more important member all around.
No offense when I say this, but your logic is flawed. However I say this only to parallel that that is precisely why I think John is such a unique player. True, JF took Hilells style, but he was being pressured alot by the producer on how to play on the album.
Honestly, as important as Hillel was, JF is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He is one of the (in my opinion) greatest riff writers in rock history. and his style is unique. you know when he is playing.
Flea CAN write guitar parts; him and JF would often write parts for each other. But he is a bassist. He shouldn't have the onus of having to write guitar parts for a heroin-addicted guitarist. Thats what the guitarist is for, to write the guitar parts. And your argument about the fact that "3/4" of the bands in the 90's had drug addictions doesn't validate anything. Anthonys drug addictions and Navarros drug addtictions severly affected their music on OHM they said it themselves
@koolmaaan Well then wouldn't Anthony's drug addictions have affected him on just about every album? I believe he was on drugs for every album except the past two.
And I doubt Flea wrote all of the guitar parts, I bet a lot of it he came up with when they were without a guitarist. Then when Dave came in I bet he started writing his stuff too. Infact, I wouldn't be surprised if Flea came up with some guitar parts on other albums too.
@GRIFpenguin Also, flea didn't write all the guitar parts. Dave navarro obviously had a huge hand in the music. But his problems with his addictions were really affecting him. and even though I think OHM is still a solid album, it just feels unfocused, possibly because of drugs. And this may be personal opinion, but the way JF plays guitar around AKs vocals, he makes it work. Keidis has a really limited vocal range, and Kiedis to me sounds at his best on album with JF. But thats personal opinion
Navarro is a good guitarist, especially a good alt-metal one, but he didn't fit in for a number of circumstances mentioned.
What I am saying is that klinghoffer isn't going to sound like John Frusciante. If there were guitarists like him that could pen as many catchy riffs as he did the rock and roll business would still be relevant. But the fact is JF is a unique guitarist and his talents are not easily replaced. The chili peppers are going to sound different is all.
neither can touch John's style. Matt Bellamy can't hold a flame to John Frusciante. In my opinion, Muse has about 3 songs that they've duplicated onto all of their albums thus far. John's writing is ever changing, and always mindblowingly powerful.
in hendrix's era there was a lot more freedom, the record companies wanted to experiment, but today there is almost a "creative compression" for example laws on drugs, and people with record deals are told to keep it short and memorable, we are all suffering from this as we don't get the fantastic music we deserve, and Frusciante can't explore musically as much as he deserves to, so he will never be as appreciated as much as hendrix
Actually Hendrix was inspired by Curtis Mayfield. That Hendrixian style of guitar we know today came from Mayfield. Not putting down Hendrix I'm just saying
The red hots are coming back!!!!! it was anounced aug. 25 by a guitar magazine that i get. their going to work on their new album in oct. but no release date.... and they dont know whos going to produce the new album (possibly rick rubin) but FUCK! IM SO EXCITED, I WONDER WHAT THEIR NEW MATERIAL WILL SOUND LIKE!

matt bellamy? jack white?

neither can touch John's style.

@godsmack432 well I really appreciate him as much as hendrix.

yer so do i, its just an example

Actually Hendrix was inspired by Curtis Mayfield. That Hendrixian style of guitar we know today came from Mayfield. Not putting down Hendrix I'm just saying

True

i believe that john took what hendrix had, and kept it going. he will never be hendrix. never as good. but damnit he what we got, and we lovehim.

The peppers have had some amazing guitarists play with them, but john is here to stay.

You can't compare Hendrix with Frusciante.
He lived in another time. The music evolved.
Don't get me wrong. I luv them both. :D
Thx god for the guitar which made all that happen.
