  • any tips on writing your own piece?

  • kevlar inside... ehhh...

  • If you say that that school is poor than you would think my high school is school-less. We have a bass drum from like the sixties haha

  • 1:45

  • That's actually a nice drum. How does it make him look poor?

  • Why does no-one seem to use drum slings anymore?

  • @reny418 I bet they ain't embarrassed anymore after hearing him play lol

  • Your school is poor, look at the drum behind you, id feel embarrased...

  • @dtwn08 not a hard beat

  • why you looking down bro? that drum aint going nowhere.

  • Your left hand looks like crap. Keep your thumb and your pointer finger together when your holding the stick

  • Comment removed

  • This kid is leet.

  • what are you looking down for? your drum doesnt have living legs that will walk off when it wants to.

  • ur hitting the rim to much

  • @NjoyUrAids100 thhats what she said....... (perfect with ur name)

  • Why do I see the bass drum that I saw at Buchholz High school?

  • What rating did you get?

  • ... HOLY SHIT 8O

  • VERY IMPRESSIVE !!!

  • @erspicer2008 Really good solo! I liked the stick tricks you included too! Check out my Corps of Drums videos on my channel :)

  • i can nail dat down its a basic ten count

  • awesome vid it must of took a long time 2 write it

  • Did you use sibelius and virtual drumline to write it?

  • @Wiiman138 i just wrote it on paper and had a friend write it out on some music writing program

  • @dtwn08 I really hope that is sarcasm...

  • Any tips on how to get better at marching snare, I'm trying to get faster and more precise at snare by fall/summer 2011.

  • @SplinterProspekt practice a lot

  • @erspicer2008 right, but any specific exercises that helped you.

  • @SplinterProspekt practice rudiments as much as u can. it would probably help a lot to play with somebody that is decent and try to play something together as clean as possible like a diddle exercise. for speed i would just keep practicing and focus on technique. and don't use my video as an example of technique

  • @erspicer2008 what heads were you using?(top and bottom)

  • @SplinterProspekt Lots of flam taps, but is triple beats, not so much hugadiks, fast singles, even if they sound like shit, and fast triplet rolls and 2 hieght eighth notes.

  • @SplinterProspekt Buy some Vic firth chop master sticks and practice your rudiments.

  • @SplinterProspekt

To go along with what erspicer said, do a lot of 8 on hand. start at 70 and go up by 10's every five or so minutes. That's what my professor has me doing. and definitely work your weaker hand more ... like do 8 on right and 16 on left. and never practice without a metronome.

  • @SplinterProspekt exercise your forearms like crazy! try doing wrist curls and try adding weight to a pair of drumsticks and drumming as fast as you can for as long as you can.

  • @SplinterProspekt Double beat at. 3" Tiple beat at 3". Break down rudiments hand to hand. Singles.

  • @SplinterProspekt hey i just came across your question about getting faster and more precise. As far as builing speed i would suggest you do alot of 8 on a hand at different tempos. really focus on striking the head in the same spot every time and getting the same sound out of every stroke. also do single stroke rolls with a metronome.start slow and gradually speed up to as fast as you can for as long as you and then back to slow again but dont lose control. lots a rudiments aswell.good luck

  • @SplinterProspekt

use accent to get faster like in parradidle RlrrLrllRlrrLrll

  • @SplinterProspekt quit, and start practicing concert snare drum.

  • I recomend the Blue Devils. They are a drum corps with the greatest drumline in the world.

  • the blue devils are so good. i have seen their corp a few times and always have a very solid drumline. i am nowhere near the caliber of those musicians.

  • hoooooooooooooooollyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiizzzzzzzzz just awesome! i couldnt do most of that stuff!!!!!!!!

  • fantastic...very nice technique; I learned some ideas from this. I'm 46 and just started playing drums 9 months ago but I have been a working guitarist for 23 years. From a composition standpoint I would like to hear more rythyms and grooves but you have plenty of time to hone those skills....and have alot of talent. good luck!

  • was 17 @ the time. 20 now

  • wow that was amazing how long did it take you to do that?

  • How long did it take you to prepare that solo?

  • idk i probably took a couple months to write it cause i was busy with school and stuff. finished it a couple of weeks before the contest and just practiced until then. i don't really remember for sure tho cause it was a couple yrs ago

  • worst technique i've ever seen, if u work on that u have the makings of a great drummer

  • worst left hand technique I've ever seen...

  • Bro your good it would look better if you did work on your form though but playing wise your spot on, keep up the good work

  • 0:42 nice flips

  • dude~, it's nice~ how long u learn it?? im start interesting with it

  • how many people were there 5?

  • dang bro. this is pretty amazing.

  • I've been marching a snare through college, and I can't even do that sick of a solo.

  • i thought that this was WOW..sickk dude! keep it up!!

  • yo.

I auditioned for the Blue Stars drum corps and didn't make it, so I'm no drumming know-it -all, but the main thing the critiqued me on was the position of my right arm. Make sure you relax your shoulder - you have it tense and higher than your left. It will in turn help with diddle quality. And don't be afraid to get into the solo. Jam during your beat at 1:37, it's a fun little bit. But otherwise nice work. I enjoyed the vid.

  • never back away from your snare when your doing a solo, that shows no dicipline at all, neither does stick tricks.

  • A tiny applause for all that work! not kewl, need bigger aplause u deserve it

  • You did a great, Loved it.

  • you guys should stop complaining about dynamics. it's not like there's another band playing that he has to balance down to, that's why it's called a solo. and it's not like pit or keyboard stuff which is mainly based on shaping it. it's snare. yeah dynamics are important for pieces. but if he can play like that, he can sure as hell raise and lower a drum stick.

  • i saw the thumbnail and thought this guy was jim from the office.

  • if this was an orchestral snare solo y are u using a marching snare? was it an orchestral solo?

  • I thought this was going to be boring. My bad. This was GREAT! Loved it man! I'm not going to bother trying to nitpick this. You looked like you were having fun and put together your own stuff and added some flash to a snare drum solo. Hope you do more and keep up the great work.

  • really good, i didnt really expect it to be that crazy. 5/5

  • better than me, my speed sucks compared to u band kids. Im to lazy to get my speed up anyway. haha

  • wow

  • omg sweeping under stick and the spinning it that was beast

  • what type of drum is it? in inches .. how much is it?

  • pearl marching snare drum. 14 in diameter. idk how much. it was a school drum. probably $300-400 but thats just a guess

  • ok thx i like the sound of this drum .. cool

  • this is really good, but i agree that he needs more dynamics. i am a drummer too, and holy crap, man you are way better than me!!!!!!

  • this is not hard honestly im not hating but it would of better if you

    - Worked On Your Dynamics

    - Worked On Your Sloppy grip

    - Used Actual Rudiments Instead Of Flashy Stick Tricks And Beats That Dont Show Your True Potential Once So Ever :)

  • ya it definitely could have had more dynamics and the technique could have been better. it wasn't exactly a rudiment solo, just a bunch of stuff i made up and put together. but aside from the tricks it does have a lot of rudiments in it

  • @icerider606 Shutup you cunt.

  • @icerider606 once so ever? wtf

  • HOLY SHIT MAN! are you kidding me!? that was awesome!!

  • It's actually amazing what you can do with only one component of a drumkit. :)

  • eh it was ok

  • haha how do u "write" a solo like that????

  • lol basically i made it up and then i wrote it out bit by bit

  • oh wow i didnt no that was possible =] thx

  • yeahh i agree still some more dynamics needed!!

  • nice speed i could hear everything but still need dynamics a bit more 5/5 loved it

  • this is rudimental style - no dynamics..

  • Could use a little more dynamics maybe?

  • ya this kid is amazing but dynamics could of been better for sure. Otherwise outstanding 5 stars

  • im speechless that was sick man!!

  • good shit. i only have 1 suggestion. keep head up and look forward

  • 5/5 Nice man. I'm starting with the drums like next week. I hope I could turn good with them, like within 1 month or somethin! But nice vid! You got skills with the drums!

  • it take a long time to be good. easily a year or so to get things down well and come up with your own stuff. Not saying you can't, but most people I know think it'll be easy and end up being disappointed...hard. Good luck and you can check out some of my vids if you wish on my channel. I've been playing for about a year now. Started with rock band, lol, then got a real kit later. Good luck (seriously) and would love to hear how you do. :)

  • Thanks! I'm starting soon, next week probably. Oh, nice vids! Your a good drummer!

  • thanks man. I'm a work in progress.

  • DAM YOUR GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

  • Stupid kids. His left drum stick is hitting the drum you just can't see it idiots. Great job though!!!

  • nice solo maybe try using your ears sometime and look up stare down your audience make it look like you dont have to even think about it and they will go wild for you. but great job keep practicing

  • he should make another 1

  • dude ur fuckin sick...amasing

  • how he was windmilling with wis left hand was tight XD

  • esse kara naum tah sozinho naum .........toca muiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiito

  • the snare solo is ok....really not that good.....but i'm flippinout on how amazing it is that they let you write it in texas they wouldn't let us write our own

  • nice solo there, i''d love to play that on my snare keep up good work

  • lol awesome, had no idea you could create your own S&E solo for high school, what state is this?

  • kansas

  • whats that flam thing u do in the begginging is that a flam drag?

  • no its flam accent

  • holy shiz, this ain't that bad. o.o

  • nice solo, and yes that is a snare drum....

  • Well its a marching snare but i dnt think that really matters lol

  • really good solo

your brother showed me this video

great mix of both left and right hand techniques

    like it a lot

  • nice solo :) dang this band room just like my high school band room XD

  • i want to be like that when i get to high school(i'm only in sixth grade i'm 3rd chair)

  • To HIM0111 "dude im pretty sure thats not a snare but ok," you are very ignorant, that is a snare drum.

To erspicer2008: Good overall with the rudiments, but you actually technique wasn't that good, it seems like you can't hit the same area of the drum with the beads of the stick, and your grip is not up to par either, the right hand is turn to far to the right, like french grip and you left hand is rested to left to much. You should be able to put a stick straight down the left arm.

  • WHAT SCHOOL IS THIS IT LOOKS LIKE UNION

  • are you rea\lated to brian spicer???

  • lol...no

  • haha are you sure? you both spicers are freakishly good and i was jus wondering

  • excellent! but roll is so artificiality

  • thats very well put together. nice job

  • what the fuck you are insane

  • damn!

  • what the fuck.. only one rating you got skills!

  • 1 is the best then 2,3,4. that is if you are wondering about the "received 1 rating" in the description

  • yeah. ummm. you got it backwards. 5*s is the best then 4,3,2,1 etc.

  • considering i am the one who played this solo and put up this video, i think i would know what rating scale was used at the competition i was at. 1 is the best and so forth.

  • OHHHHHHH. I see i thought you were talking about the YouTube Rating so you really confused me there.

Yeah. I got a 1 rating on my snare solo and runner up to state.

  • ok yeah. i didn't mean to confuse you. sorry

  • You've got it backwards 1 is the best and is called a superior rating if you'd ever competed in a concert competition you'd know that. But if you did compete and got a high number and someone told you it was good then they probably just felt sorry for you and told you that lie.

  • Dude i got mixed up. You would know that if you bothered to read. I got a 1 at last year's solo/ensemble and made honor band the year before that, so quit trying to hide your own faults by falsely criticizing me. Oops let me put that in words you may understand, since you can't read: shut up.

  • my school got superior in all categories. :)

  • My school (of all freshman) who were in their first year of playing together, travelled to Idaho, got a 299 out of 300, completely smoking all 40 other bands and beating them down without apology.

  • What type of competition was it?

  • solo and ensemble

  • Oh, so not really competition between schools, but yourself and maybe a classmate or two. "got a 299 out of 300" is a little extreme for even one person. Don't take this to offense but your solo is no where close to perfect if you look at everything such as grip, execution of rudiments and technique in which they were performed. Plus you got to write you own solo, which for solo ensemble is weird.

  • well it actually was a competition between schools. there aren't any winners but just ratings are given out. i took it to regional, then to state.
