  • Bravissimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I know no one will read this, but it’s worth a shot.

I’ll post it anyways, just in case.

I'm a pianist (16 years old), and have been for about 7 years. I know there are SO many in this world, but I'd like for you to see me.

I would love nothing more than to have people enjoy my music, and become popular on YouTube.

If anyone who reads this could press the "Thumbs Up" button, other people will see it.

Just a simple button press could make my dream come true. Thank you ♥

  • Well, boaring theme, uninspired improvisation. This is no Jazz, it is Bar Jazz - a complete different thing...

  • Very nice!

  • Brilliant improvisation, you've got a great feeling for it, nice one mate

  • Amazing

  • Jesus Jazz!!! awright now...this is so cool man, why it makes me just want to praise the Lord. hallelujah!!! great post.

  • Muito bom...

    Lega!

  • now I would say that this is played by someone who obviously knows music, but when I listen to it, I can barely pick up that its How Great Thou Art - so as to say If I were not told that it was How Great Thou Art it would just sound like some random jazz. Also I would label this as sacrilegious as there is more emphasis on the pianist than the message of the hymn.

  • this is a perfect improvisation, I can wait until the day that I can do the same, I want to play some hymns at church-style Jazz.

  • nawww... I dpn't think so

  • now THAT!!! was playing with soul!

  • yeah!i love it!!!!!!

  • whoever disliked this video probably sucked or dont kno how to play

  • This is an amazing improvisation ! I wish I could learn jazz piano :)

  • an i love you the mucic

  • es la mejor mucica que escuche

  • meh.

  • This is certainly so heartwarming...playing stride piano in tribute for his grandma! indeed,a very talented pianist! To God be the glory...

  • ~sweet

  • Fake

  • @juicestain117

    Jealous.

  • Very-well done.

  • Wonderful Job!!!

  • Love it!! Love jazz and gospel music..You nailed them both!!!

  • itmefergal maybe you should learn something about music before you criticize something like this. i have been playing the piano for 12 years and i couldn't do anything close to that. he's a truly gifted pianist and took a great song and added a great style to it. no one in their right mind with any knowledge of music whatsoever could call this "murdering a song." great arrangement jhunt keep it up!

  • @rifleman50cal Okay maybe he didn't murder it, but he certainly made hash out of it. Some people like hash.

  • @rifleman50cal thats his opinion and your's is yours.... no amount of experiance makes your opinions right...

  • YES! This is HOT! He is killing this old hymn (in a good way).

  • The song which was originally Southern Gospel, kind of lost its slow, touching meaning, but overall you did make it your own and that's what made it a good performance. 5***** :)

  • can you gicve me the notes from this song?

  • Sorry, this was all improvised. No music other than the basic cords and melody.

  • @nhangia there's no sheet on jazz my friend...

  • Great groove, and nails the style, but in his own way. Cool!

  • In WHAT way incredible?

  • nice steinway and good playin ;-)

  • yea this isnt really jazz but i love it so much, just a much better way of playing a simple song :D

  • How do you mean its not realy Jazz!?

You cant listen to this same song and tell me it doesnt sound Jazzy!

Are we watchin the same video!? XD

  • It's not actually jazz. It's something between jazz and raggtime, and it sounds really awsome

  • stride?

  • yes...actually...I couldn't remeber the name for that style:P

  • You smoke weed man.

  • Great! I hear bits of Brubeck, and it doesn't get any finer than that.

  • What a tasteful rendition!

  • Right on! Loved the composition and the spirit behind it. Keep rockin' brother!

  • God bless you ! This is the most amazing How Great Thou Art I ever hear!!

  • HOHOHO~~ a great jazz song

oh wait that's a hymn? which part of it?

it sounds more like a music you hear in bars where you have alcohol and girls

  • Open your heart. As long as he play with his heart to worship the Lord. What's wrong with that?

  • why does this have to be a religious debate? Can't you jsut appreciate music? Personally, I don't like it that much.

  • ++++1

    steve is a musical genius.

  • Boy, you betta play that thang!

  • thats some great playin

  • God doesnt care about the style of music DondaLonda all he cares about is the heart, u could worship God with an out of tune guitar in a shed and he'll still appreciate it, its not about the intstruments, its not about ability or talent God looks at the heart... read John 4:23 - 24

    God bless x

  • i know. i was being sarcastic. i thought it was pretty obvious. especially since i'd just talked about how things have changed from era to era.

  • Dont pay attention to any of the above coments. Excellent job! Esspecially love your runs!!

  • Well thats just sad how people think just because it's different that you can't still worship God with it. Who said it has to be the way its ALWAYS BEEN. I believe my God accepts any music that is written for him. This man has a gift and he using it for the glory of God. Let me guess your a Baptist that goes to a traditional church that has no room for anything new or different. Take a music history class and you learn "traditional" music now was frowned upon years back. Open your mind.

  • ahhh, yes, claytonisglad, I too am a baptist and have been victim to the rigidness of the denomination. We are now allowed to clap in my church, in fact, the youth jump around. But that's a beside. I think it's better to be developing the good music so younger generations can appreciate what already has great words. And, hymns were considered the 'evil modern' music in my mum's day. Funny how things develop. I think this is awesome.

  • apparently God only likes one style of music?

  • Wrong! God looks at the heart. Whatever you do, the heart counts.

  • It's called sarcasm. I was questioning the intimation that God can only like one style. I actually believe that God loves music fullstop. He does have angels devoted only to singing praises to him and making music.

  • I think it could be jazzed up without making hash out of it.

  • right... but, you wouldn't expect something like this to be played on a fundamental church, wouldn't you?

yet, it's still a nice version...

  • It's depending of church denomination or tradition, or rule, or country or people.

In my church, old hymn played with (or i can say with modification) mars, jazz (like this video) or pop - funk R 'n B genre, it's depending when your service, for child service, youth (funk and other) or older people (mars, jazz, or swing - i like swing)

Other hymn modified to other genre, "When The Saints Go Marching In":

    watch?v=Oph-v6pS3qs

  • I find it a bit far out for a solemn song like how "How Great Thou Art" to be played like that... It loses it's solemn feel...

  • It's Jazz mode: ON, not play like hymn, but jazz.

  • Now that's style, mate...

  • This is 'How Great Thou Art'? I don't recognize any part of it (at all) in this video. It's like a completely different song, even for the jazz version of it.

  • It's there...listen closely. It's definately a Jazz version.

  • Its How Great Thou Art, or you can't find the different style?

  • Well, unless it is the performer's own version of it...but if that is the case, then he has a totally different view of the song than the traditional. I'm not saying he performed bad, because it sounded pretty good. I just can't hear any part of "How Great Thou Art" in there. I thought I knew jazz, but maybe I don't know it that well.

  • Ok, i can tell you; listen carefully the reff of How Great Thou Art @ 0:32, again @ 0:49, 1:36 and 1:51; it's an easy part to find it's How Great Thou Art or not.

  • I'm sorry. I still don't hear it. Great piano playing, though.

  • go to a black church in detroit and you will hear this stuff live and the way it was supposed to be played

  • Sorry, but the medium (jazz) and the lofty tones of "How Great Thou Art" just can't be married. It trivializes the song. My opinionated opinion. :-)

  • Maybe yes, but i think it's dependent how individual taste/feel; i am enjoy this version, i ts very peace, smooth, easy listening when i am driving, or in public transportation.

  • Playing jazz mucis from sheet music?? BOO!

  • music**

    haha I can't spell. yay

  • The sheet music simply had cords and melody. Most everything you hear was improvised. All real jazz musicians play from charts showing the cords and melody.

  • @jhunt7111 not if they have them memorized ;)

  • @jhunt7111 I'm not a jazz piano player, but all my piano playing is improvised, but I do look at chords for reference

  • anybody know who wrote this arrangement, or anybody have a chord sheet?

  • his mom is my teacher

  • wow!

    thats very nice!

really i apreciate the work of this man!

  • Very cool. Its my goal to be able to transcribe such hymns into full scale transcriptions for piano...except my style is more classical/romantic. This is definately a piece of inspiration for my goal.

    Very clever.
