Incidentally, the timeline change/J-Day delay are also the reason why the Skynet technology in T3 is more advanced than in T1 or T2. The T-X is obviously more advanced than the T-1000, and in T3 Arnold is a (stronger) T-850, versus the T-800s he played in the first two movies.

The fact that the timeline is malleable also means that the ultimate outcome of the war is no longer a certainty; a fact that's hinted at in the T:S trailer.

Different timeline. Originally Cyberdyne built Skynet and triggered J-Day on Aug 29, 1997. In T2, when Sarah decided to attack Cyberdyne (when she was carving "No Fate" into the table) the timeline changed. Cyberdyne went under and J-Day was delayed. Cyberdyne's technology was taken over by Cyber Research Systems. Skynet Research could simply be a division of CRS.

First: Terminator Salvation is described as a "...both a sequel and prequel to the previous films."

Second:  We are dealing with "T1 - T3 Time Travel" people!!! Anything is possible.

Third: Its "Skynet Research", most likely the Research and Development Dept. for Sky Net. Cyberdyne Systems was destroyed in Terminator 2.

Lastly: its Science Fiction.. Relax and enjoy the ride when Terminator is released this summer!

In the Terminator, though, "Cyberdyne Systems" was the name of the company that created Skynet, which was a massive, computerized defense-network.
