it is sad how everyone has been giving into the advertising of EVs.the irony of this situation is that the batteries in these vehicles do much more harm than good.why you ask?you would think battery powered cars take away the need for using fuel.yes, they do.BUT the production of the batteries is what kills the planet. the batteries travel many times around the world before they are complete. they also contain lead. thats only half of it. replacing them?$5,000. recycling them=toxic waste
@Stilini03 And gasoline / diesel just appears at the pumps without being drilled, transported, refined, transported (as fuel) until finally ending up at the gas station (a very energy intensive process)?
At least batteries CAN be recycled, unlike gas! Do you think that lithium from used battery packs will just be dumped into landfill? No! It is much cheaper to recycle metals than mine them! Besides, battery manufacturers consider batteries 'used' when they've only lost 20% of their capacity.
@Stilini03 Sorry sir but you are retarded. Why the hell would you be stuck on gas with a price which will only be higher and higher from now on when you can create your own electricity for your electric car and SET YOUR OWN PRICE FOR THE "FUEL"? My next car will be ELECTRIC.
@Stilini03 Actually, lithium ion cells are considered non-hazardous and can be reused at their 'end of life'. And modern EV batteries contain many elements that can be recycled, including plastics, copper, aluminium, manganese, cobalt and iron. And yes, materials for the batteries come from all over the place (lithium is produced mainly in China, Australia, South America, Australia and Canada) but that's modern production for you - many products are created and produced globally.
@Stilini03 Try speaking from knowledge instead of ignorance. The batteries in an electric car will last far, far longer than your desire to keep driving it. Also, Lithium batteries are NON TOXIC and almost 100% recyclable.
Just because you say something doesn't make it true. Sorry.
This isn't actually the new introduction - this is an alternate trailer that we had originally developed for opening movie. Only the final frames of animation appear in the theatrical release of the film! Chris Paine - Director
Fuck electric cars. You know why? Because instead of trying to sell them on their merits, advocates sell them by simultaneously demonizing people who drive gasoline powered cars.Oh wait, could it be that electric cars have no real merits in comparison to gasoline cars? Well then call me when they do. And sell them to me by making them as affordable, comfortable and usable as what we already have. Not by telling me that the world is going to implode if I don't buy one. V8 for life!!!
@D1sepuku WTF? Well .... , fine but V8 for life is like Long Live the Nazis, NO ONE is forcing you. But your excuses are shit and aren't changing anybody's opinion. Oh look up the Tesla Model S. It has reached your demands as compatible with it's competitors' price ranges. €37,000, $50,000 for a luxury car. Sorry to break it to you...
@toyotaprius79 This coming from a Prius owner tell me Mr.Smug how does a it feel to be a slave to mainstream culture and environmentalists propaganda. I would rather be a Nazi than join your ranks.
@toyotaprius79 Good for your, judge before researching, I'm just shit at names, as you can see. But din't be so fucking childish, it's youtube, grow up. I don't see any propaganda you're mentioning, it's just petrol is going to run soon at our consumption and hydrogen needs hydrocarbons (crude oil) to run on. I used to have that shit box but petrol is just too expensive. €1.60 per litre, now you do the maths, don't embarrass yourself.
@D1sepuku I'm not so much based around polar bears and that shit by the way you think many people are immediately. it's all about efficiency and an alternative so there wouldn't be that shit 2012 apocalypse scenario in 30-50 years!
@D1sepuku Electric cars are the next step in transportation. Affordable all-electric vehicles featuring 200+ miles to a charge have been on the market for almost a year now. Perhaps your view on your impact on the planet differs from mine, but you can't ignore the future of vehicular transportation - Prices for gasoline rise daily and our environment is showing that it can't stand much more pollution. Transportation being one of the main causes of pollution, well... its the only logical action.
@herzfeld2 While your comment is probably one of the more intelligent responses I have received it is not completely accurate. The cheapest electric vehicle on sale in the US is the Nissan Leaf with a starting price of $27700 for a majority of people in this country that is not affordable. It also does not have a capacity to travel over 200 miles on a single charge with all of the amenities that a combustion powered vehicle could run simultaneously.
EV pricing issue is temporary. Most people could not afford the first cars, appliances, VCRs, cellphones, flatscreens, etc, either.
Internal combustion has had a century to develop, and the best mileage attained is in the 50+ mpg range. Of course, with an energy-dense fuel like gasoline, it is easy to make high horsepower, but there is still only 1 way to make/get gasoline when your supply is used up.
Did you know the government pays BILLIONS ANNUALLY in tax breaks and subsidies to the Coal and Oil industries, not to mention environmental exemptions? No. So how is that considered commercially viable on it's own merits? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
The Tesla Roadster EV can accelerate 0-60mph in 4s. That's without having to shift. It's motor is the size of a watermelon.
What does 0-60mph in 4s feel like? Try riding the California Screamin' at California Adventures.
