@henhen7890 haha! it will be high on a telephone pole in the back yard andvertical one of these days... I kinda got snagged working on some other cools stuff!
Yea, i had planed to use all-thread through it connecting to the wheels, but the threads are different, and i'm having trouble finding the right all-thread. Do you have any other ideas on how to link the wheels to turn together? the turbine wants to twist up a bit.
They are bycycle tires sooo, they are fitted to bolts. If you can get the bolts and weld them to a small guage pipe that might be a start. I just dont know how to go about stability with that central tire there. Im thinking about making one from a helichopter rotor and 2 ft, by 12 ft culvert piping... we shall see.
Stand it up. I built the same thing but much larger with a 6' width and stood it verticle. My problem is where I'm at the wind keeps tearing up my blades. I'm trying to save the money for figerglass.
You'll find your very limited with the horizontal wind . When verticle it doesn't matter what direction the wind is comming from.
Hey There Wulf! You are very right! I have a telephone pole out back that i'm just dieing to put it up on. I resently bought a house and have been busy as fuk for that last few months. I'll post a video of it up some day. I'd love to see videos or pictures of your turbine!
OK, I'm about to give away the Million $ secret. You stated about gearing ~~ Your On Top already :)
I used to be a Certified Schwin Bike mechanic a long time ago & learned alot about gearing. Don't bother with those gears on the bike wheel. The "WHEEL RIM" is Perfect :) Just like your 3d graphic BUT if you multiply it aka big to small to big to small and keep going you will hit that ratio you want much faster. That's why I went with such a big drive :)
I think the load on both ends is a great idea. Definitely need something bigger to do that though. I have been scheming on building one like this out of giant sewer pipe ;) I made friends with the local bike shop and they have been helping me save parts for my next one.
I love ur videos and work. Get that alternator up and running ;)
When the wind is really blowing the torque is pretty impressive! Hope to gear the shit out of it! but we shall see. I'd like to get the generator to spin at 10,000 rpm when the turbine is at like 600 rpm.
Thanks for the comment on my puppies. They have such personalities and are such a joy to have around. The tan one is Gizmo, and the black one is her baby, Amiee.
Yes, this looks smart. I like the way the wheels are used. I can only propose to mount it on a roof. The roof will deflect more wind into the turbine and of course one could add a dynamo to generate electricity.
Yup, the roof Idea is great! I'll see if i can do that, I'll use my garage roof perhaps. Also I have a telephone pole that i want to mount it on so it will be a true vertical turbine, and catch all that turbulent wind we get here :) also I bought 3 dynamo bicycle generators rated at around 12v 6w, I'll have to try them out.
This was way more work than I had anticipated for sure! OH, I just found your videos last night! Great stuff!!! My main inspiration was an instructable I found quite a while ago: I'm assuming that instructable was yours?
Horizontal, not vertical.

did you remove the spokes and run them through the blades and then replace them in the rims ?
mosbysmen 3 months ago
Horizontal, you just lost all credibility.
Ozarkorganicshiitake 6 months ago
Some how you must mount it thirty feet high to catch some real wind. Maybe on your roof at the peak where the wind sheers.

put a belt on one bycycle rim and run it to a genorator

You could mount along the apex of your roof in the horizontal position.

Someone still needs to find a way to harness breaking wind.

technically thats horizontal o.o

Add solar panels inside each blade and run the wires to a center bearing with contacts. Then you'd have a solar/wind system.

OK I cant resist you need a squirrel cage for the dogs to run around .

If you were to stand this up it would probably require a central axle yes?

May I make a suggestion ?

I too used bicycle bearing and so far so good :)
I like your work :) Very Clean, AWESOME :)

try mounting it on the edge of a terrace to catch the updraft and attach axial flux PMGs to both ends. You may not even need gears

best bicycle wheel version I have seen.
What do you think about a larger one with a load on both ends?
I look froward to seeing more!
