Where exactly is it? (seems to be outside Gottenburg.) And my father came from? The Gothenburg area!
You have to have love. What a revolutionary idea! How come noone ever thought of it? :) (of course only valid if we are PERSONS. And not Martians.) (irony.)
Seriously: if a group of people are viewed as so DIFFERENT (like almost not human) then of course love is wasted on them! (superstition. Belonging in the Medieval Age.) (besides I think apartheid is a bit outdated. Don´t you?)
I think that this type of care could be a choice that could benefit many. I also work with people with mental disorders and hope all will keep an open mind. Go Mindfreedom!!!!! Yay
You make it sounds as if the socialist- health system was a good thing. However brilliant this Family Care Foundation might be, the health system is not. Most of the therapists which are payed by the state treat one like crap, don't have time and don't really care since they get payed no matter what... There are always good people, also in bad systems. And this is one of them.
@Yxxohak pros and cons of social health care systems aside, most of the programs for psychosis are POOR in sweden, denmark, finland, norway, and other social health care places -- basically about as bad as the programs are in the USA! family care foundation is a rarity -- an exception.
It looks very promising and interesting. We work with people with severe mental disorders in Spain and we'd like to share at least this trailer. Is it OK if I subtitle it into Spanish? And when is this doc coming out? We'd love to see it!
@SalutMentalElx greetings from NYC. thanks for the comment. the documentary is already out, for sale on my website. please, feel free to subtitle the trailer -- quite a compliment. thank you. ---daniel
@ dmackler58-I do believe this is valid and like all alternative therapies those passivising the therapies help others to achieve balance and diagnosis do not count or matter. Medication only numbs people but these people are recovering.
@camelot886 i think a person experiencing difficulties isn't always easy to live with, but can also bring an incredible richness & meaning to a family. as to the part about not "knowing a lot about psychosis," that's not what i witnessed visiting families. they actually know a huge amount -- firstly because they are practical, humane, common-sense-oriented people, and secondly because many of them have taken people in for years & know more about psychosis than most seasoned mental health pros.
@camelot886 part 2: it's worthwhile to look at historical programs like Gheel in Belgium or Soteria in california -- non-professionals helped people with psychosis, and attained far better results (and Soteria has the numbers to prove it!) than the best of traditional psychiatry, with all its drugs and money.
@BEX371 yes, it's a good system, far better (FAR better!) than traditional psychiatry. for starters, they help many people considered "refractory" (aka, impossible to help) to get better, get off the drugs, to recover. we mental health workers owe it to ourselves to study programs like these. they have much to teach us. i for one have learned a lot from them!
I love the girl's answer.
There is absolutely NO love in psychiatry.

This is what we need in the US. Now if we could only get past the unholy alliance between our government and the pharmaceutical companies...

i cant believe that a psychotic person wouldnt be a burden for these families, especially since they dont seem to know a lot about psychosis.
