  • Jambalaiah,

Where are you? Opening the world to dialog; it may well be the greatest promise of a DARPA innovation: the Internet. We consume and waste too much in the west, but we do foster freedom and original thought--may your land open its borders and its minds. I wish you well. If Heinlein comes your way may I recommend "The Door Into Summer" "Methuselah’s Children" "Time Enough For Love" "To Sail Beyond The Sunset" and, of course, the cult favorite "Stranger in a Strange Land." Good life!

  • I have them all. I did not see a copy of "The Sixth Column" in your list. I read all of his books at least once every year and quote from them like a Baptist preacher can quote from the King James Version!

  • I have them all. Did you show a copy of The Sixth Column? I didn't see that one...

  • I look at the selection of science fiction and fantasy; and what we read is what we pick, and it is a game of dice to get good picks. Once we have become read with an author, that is what we have, and there is no more time. The selection of science fiction and fantasy is so large, that we can choose our identity by genre, and individualist are isolated and unable to find another like them. Good stuff from Robert A. Heinlein.

  • I will fear no evil is...I have no idea... 230 pages in and all it seem like is a Transsexual fantasy.

  • In moments like these I hate my country. None of Heinlein's books are available in my country. No let me rephrase, almost every great Sci-Fi novel is not available in my country. Great video anyway.

  • The Moon Is A HArsh Mistress is a hard one to get into I need to retry it.

  • My 5 Favourite Heinlein's from what I have read.

    5) Number of The Beast

    4) Space Cadet

    3) Red Planet

    2) Starship Troopers

    1) Stranger In A Strange Land

  • i just finished reading Stranger in a Strange Land, and loved it.

Or should I say, I grok it in fullness.

  • I'm reading Starship Troopers (about 3/5 of the way done) and after seeing the movie, I really dont know how you could get the movie out of this book. The director stated he didn't read all of the novel, but read the majority of it, and got the basic idea. Still... Its a HUGE difference.

  • I'm about that far through Friday, and I love it!

  • There's a 6 episode anime adaption of Starship Troopers. It's on youtube now. The Japanese were able to turn the book into a buddy series!

  • @Truth118 The director also stated he did not like Heinlein and hated his political views.

  • In a number of Heinlein's stories, the adult protagonist forms a "romantic" relationship with an underaged girl - e.g, Have Space Suit, Door Into Summer, Time for the Stars, Time Enough for Love. Given how often that plot device comes up, I have to wonder if it derives from experiences in Heinlein's private life. Some now 60-ish woman out there who grew up in Colorado Springs in the 1950's might have stories to tell about her creepy neighbor Mr. Heinlein.

  • What is the music please?

  • Devin Anderson

  • Thanks

  • Song is "Ambulance Ride for the Soon to be Deceased"

  • Heinlein is probably the best writer ever, though Orson Scott Card is a close second.

  • Have Space Suit will Travel has some amazing covers not shown here I love some of the artwork

  • Starship Troopers was his best.

  • I would say that "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" is right up there with Troopers. Personally I would put Mistress one notch above Troopers but that is just individual taste. I could see how others might put Troopers highest.

  • Would you say Friday is good ? I am just about to start it Can you tell me about the Cat that appears in some of his novels.

  • I really liked Friday. It is one of his books that some people love and some hate. In regards to the cat I think if you Google "Heinlein cat" you will find some info about him.

  • The Cat appears on a couple of covers including Friday I don't get it though when I wiki it It brings me to The Cat Who walks Through walls novel which doesn't appear to be about a cat at all ?????????

  • @ninelivecat Yes, Friday is good.

  • are these all the US covers because i live in the uk and mine our all completly different. Has made me want to buy all these ones too as i always buy the different covers even when i have the book

  • Most of these are U.S. covers but a few are UK

The "Orphans of the Sky" with the people in the cockpit is the U.K. cover I believe. But in each country the covers also changed over time so what I may think is a UK cover is an older U.S. cover.

  • I Have all of his books, including the editions printed in the 50's and 60's. I read my first RAH story in "Boy's Life" way back in 1963! Where, BTW I also read my 1st Asimov, Silverberg and Clarke!

  • NathanSt read Moon is a harsh mistress. Great novel.

My favorites are puppet masters, starship troopers, glory road, moon is a harsh mistress... and stranger in a Strange land.

Robert Heinlein is a great author in any genre.

Have to read JOB.. I tried to read Friday when it came out but didn't like it so I stayed away from his later works.

  • JOB!!!

my favorite alternate universe novel ever

stranger in a strange land is wonderful

still need to read moon is a harsh mistress

heinlein definitely deserved grand master status
