as an atheist i have to say that i love this band...not for the obvious christian lyrics but for the fact that they have such excellent music in general. i've always loved this band since i was in junior high...i'm now 29 years old and i still listen to their first 2 albums all the time. thanks for the post.
Beauty and savagery, achievement and horror, blessings and bloodshed. The marvel at how both reside within the human heart. I hope we may we resist our capacity to be the destroyer of worlds.
Thank you for this beautiful and powerful song! Its depth is so intriguing! Its touched my heart in every area of my life and is such a great reminder of how fragile each moment we have is, and how that moment can never be relived. This song will be played at my wedding. God is awesome and I can see He had the biggest part in the making of this song and this video!
I used to wonder, "How does *not* being weak, *not* being cold and *not* being scared make you frail?"
Then one day the true meaning of this song finally hit me. Being weak, cold and scared is what causes us to turn to God for strength. If we never had any reason to turn to God, we would never receive His strength. And without strength from God, we truly would be frail.
I love this song. I was first drawn to it for its beautiful, almost haunting instrumental parts more than I was for the lyrics. But over the years I've also come to appreciate the beauty of its lyrics as well.
Okay guys, here's what an atheist who loves this song (that's me) has to say about it's meaning:
He's talking about his fears and weakness and how, no matter how hard he tries, he struggles be a perfect christian. Why? Because then he'd have to give up his defenses and become "frail". Vulnerable.
He makes the point that god is stronger and safer than his own self, yet explains that it's so hard to completely let god take control, because then he becomes unable to fend for himself.
@ taxmino don't be so judgemental. jars of clay have so many uplifting songs that so many christians love because of the powerful, personal lyrics. they are gifted musicians by God and music is a part of their ministry. don't judge anyone because you taxmino...are guilty of the same thing you accuse jars of clay of doing. maybe YOU should read YOUR bible and get your head and your heart right.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Warning ....Jars of clay are after personal recognition and rather side with public opinion over biblical truth...warning !!!!! " these are terrible ideas" their opinion to Pat Robertson comments on the haiti earthquake.....
Just like i thought all these so called gospel christian actors are not after GODS Glory but themselves.
wait....are you telling me you're perfect and have never sinned? you may not have sinned in terms of wanting God's glory for yourself but you've certainly sinned in another way - and guess what...God sees all sin the same. So, instead of speaking against them...how about praying for them? Better still, maybe someone should post on here some of your sins and see how that is. Self righteous people sadden me.
Wow, taxmino! That's pretty impressive. I always thought man looked on the outward appearance and God looked on the heart. But apparently, you are also able to look inside these guys' hearts. Amazing! How do you do it? My hat is off to you!
I looked in John like you suggested and found this... John 13:35 This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." The thing with the bible, is that it seems open to interpretation, the problem with a living word combined with free will I guess. I do firmly believe though that a Love Letter only has meaning when you know the Lover who wrote it....John 10 stood out to me too... "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."v27. (Matt 7:5)
Wow. I'm a bit of a student of history, and I love Jars of Clay...i was looking up this song and came across this video. Really well done, it really highlights how humanity's technology has both moved our society along and brought us back to the brink of destruction
i luv your vid editing on this christian song. christian music needs more medatative music , most of it in my opinion stinks and i hope you'll edit more vids. p.s. ''' J's.o.C.''' , {rocks}
Wow. That was a really great vid. Thanks for sharing those visual reminders about who we are as people, who we should't continue to be, and, maybe, that there's hope for the future. Well done.
a lot of so called "christian" or "religious" music is actually very good. Switchfoot and Jars of Clay primarily produce some of the best music PERIOD, not just in the Christian music industry.
Jesus is the answer and the way..I'm speaking as a past self proclaimed athesist at one time, Jesus showed me the way. You're missing out.. Kisses hugs :) have a great day
Wow, not really sure what to say. Thank you for your kind comments, but I consider that I am the servant and happy to be one and I am glad that you enjoy the work that I do in here.
I watched this vid just after I relapsed and it had pretty deep impact on me! I think in my raw state I was sensative and the evolution of man in the images (the war stuff) really hit me hard. Keep making the vids man you did well.
I know what you mean about humans being weak and frail. I am a dragonkin (This means I have a spirit of a dragon and used to be one in my last life) and I can honestly say that I really think the human race isn't really as strong as all the weapons and stuff say for us.
the song is about human inability to confess to be weak. we, as humans, can't really do that, we always claim that we're perfect and we can achieve things like immortality and stuff... listen to scientists, they desire knowledge that is given (?) only to God. our spiecies has a desire to be even to God... this is in my opinion our inability to be weak...
Great video. This has always been one of my absolute favorite songs, and this video paired with it is fascinating. I'm interested, what kind of song did you ultimately want? Because this seems so perfect.
Hi Wookie, I was always going to use this song in the way that I did. The images in this vid are always what sprung to my mind when I listened to it. I just wish that some of the video had been able to be a little more clear. But it has a haunting yet timelessness about it that makes the imperfections seem okay.
Wow, Im really awed and being a history fanatic this is really something something that reminds us how perishable the human race is. sir thank you for this, I hope you can spread some sort of word by this video.
MAN what a beautiful beautiful song. This song touched me liked NO other song I have EVER heard. I feel like someone looked into my soul and wrote about what they saw. I am SO weak, SO cold, and SCARED of being broken. I cried for 10 minutes after I heard it. Thanks Ryan (my son) for sending it to me.
i tried to see your page....it says your account is closed....I would like to talk to the soul who was moved by this song....for it too has moved me...i listened at least 12 times and it keeps touching me.....i have been broken throughout this life many times and by many things....i want to know those who can stand in their brokenness and have grown through it and who understand that brokenness is a strength inside out....your tears have touched me....
I really like this. The footage (beautifully rendered) rises and falls perfectly with the music, and the contrasts of achievement and frailty, fear and discovery are perfect. This is indeed the story of our species.
Hi Skeetzo, for your positive comments and thanks for watching the vid. I do like the music in this and the more I watch it the more I am inclined to agree with you.
I am ever fascinated by the things that befall us as humans in our quest to advance. It also never fails to sadden me the atrocities that one group will perpetrate upon another if they fear they are advancing faster than they would like them to. Music in this wasn't what I wanted, but the only music that would work.
Love it!
