Harold has really improved since he joined "the boys" and fits great in their style. When Ray hired him I thought he had made a big mistake, but now I think he is one of the best tenors in the business. I'm including Ernie Phillips and Johnny Parrack.
I heard Ernie Phillips hit a C above high C in 1980 at the Ellis Auditorium in Memphis Tennessee on the song Wonderful Time Up There. Harold Reed hits a B above high C on this video.
The thing w/ Harold is he fits w/ the Kingsmen because of his range. You listen to him before he joined and now. Totally different. When first hearing Garry Shepherd he wasn't my favorite. Then hearing on live albums...he flat out shined and new how to sing and sang his part. Same w/ Harold. To say the best....you can't really say that because of the different styles between all of the tenors.
Nothing against Harold but you cant possibly be comparing Harold to the "little giant" Ernie phillips are you? It's funny to me that you would even try....
I am so excited to be seeing The Kingsmen tonight in North Augusta SC. My mother just loves seeing them sing "When God Ran". I will be recording it with my Flip Video camera and will post it asap.
I've seen the Kingsmen 4 times this year and Huggy does a very good job on Beautiful Home. The comment posted about him earlier on this particular song was the "little tenor note at the end wasn't that great " I believe it was because of the other guy's playing the instruments weren't familiar with the arrangement. If you look at the video near the end Huggy looks at Bryan to say one more time, but then the song ends.I seen Ernie and Huggy together at a Kingsmen Reunion at Inspiration park July 4th
Though you may not be impressed with"that tenor" Little Ernie is and I have heard him say so from his own mouth. Ernie was indeed awesome with the Kingsmen but I have seen Ernie step back to allow Harold to sing when they have shared the stage. Both men are great tenors in their own right and style. Everyone has an opinion and this is mine!
Tim Lovelace was with them about a year.He was on their CD "Beyond The Clouds" and the video "Beyond The Clouds" and as far as I know that is the only album.
I definitely agree with you on Ray, I'm glad he took over ownership after Foxy passed away. I don't think the Kingsmen would be the same if Ray hadn't stuck it out like he did.

Quick P.s. to my last post, I never knew Tim Lovelace played. I thought he was with the Florida Boys and then went on his own.

I am not really that impressed with Harold Reed (singing tenor), I think Ernie Phillips' voice fit the group perfectly.
