@bobgatzen I own a couple of your B.O.A pedals. I love them, but I was just wondering will the new improvements be able to be retrofitted to the old pedals?
@mrsonicfeet Not sure yet. we are experimenting with a new footboard design. I'll know more over the next few weeks. feel free to contact me. Thanks for BOA kudos mrsf!
Great concept, will like to see the '12 version in its execution. I have all sorts of pedals, from an old Speed King to an Axis A to the Iron Cobra and your basic strap drives.
Ok, so when it comes out it would be cool to see the differences between the B.O.A., the Pearl Demon Drive, the Axis A and the Trick V1. Like a good honest toe-to-toe comparison of strengths and weaknesses.
Bob, you might be the only one honest enough to do it -- maybe you and Mike Barton should co-host.
@samgadoodle I have a lot of friends in the industry regardless whether or not who has the next best design. Personally, I like competition... keeps me sharp.

Bob, please never stop doing what you do. This pedal is amazing, and it has turned me from a diehard Iron Cobra user to a PDP (DW too) fanboy. I love this pedal and I pray that it will go back on the market some day. Thanks for this great product!
0:29 Man I just can't seem to stop listening to that beat! It's just something with the Harmony of the Double pedal, Tom and Snare Drum ... I think I clicked this part over 50 times or more.. LOL ... Wished it was longer ... Great Pedal with a Great Drummer! - Brian-
@Necroborgie Wow... that's a great message Brian! I save inspiring comments in my "RAINY DAY YT COMMENTS" that I visit when I'm feeling down!! Appreciate your taking the time to write.
Hey Bob, I've got 3 single boa pedals and they are easily the best pedals ever made in my opinion and I've tried the lot. I've finally got tracked down a double and just had to drop you a line to say...what a piece of gear! its so well thought out. i love everything about it. thank you so much for this.
@metalover2 I'm really happy to have stumbled on a brand new Boa double pedal sitting on a shelf in a music store. Players seem to be ignoring them for whatever reason!? I'm here to tell you that this thing is the baddest pedal out there, at least the baddest I've ever used and I've used the best. Trick, Axis, Eliminator, Demon, Iron cobra. They're all wonderful pedals, but they don't hold a candle to the Boa! I just don't get why they're off the market. If you can find one, snatch it up!
@TheKanz09 The single & double BOA pedals are temporarily out of production. However, the practice pedal and HH are available. We are hoping to have the full BOA line back online by mid 2011. Thanks for your interest Kanz!

@Practicle24 Only way it might click is if the foot pedal link is not mounted perfectly straight. Very easy to correct... only takes a couple of minutes. If you have any problems feel free to write me.
@koookkk. Wow!! Really?!. I found the pedal and hi hat stand online and am about to purchase them. I don't want this to be an expensive mistake, especially for something they don't make anymore.
Bob, have you seen or heard this from another pedal?
@Practicle24 Current status is DW offers part replacements and is selling the Hi-hat and Practice pedal. They plan on re-releasing the BOA single and double in 2011.
I have one of these pedals but iv'e had to change it twice :( After a while it starts clicking and it it makes the beaters swing less. I could have understood if it was just one time but TWICE! ...... so im dissapointed that it happens becuase i really like the pedal :( I've loved them intul they died.
@Practicle24 The BOA pedals are so different than the DW traditional chain/strap version that they decided to bring it out in the P line. However, there is nothing "lo-end" about it... just a name change.
Well bob I've solved my double bass pedal issues. I've seen them online for 502.00. Thanks for sharing this vid or I would gave never known. I was almost going to buy the Pearl Eliminator Demon. Glad I saw this first.
@Killenmachine05 2 different animals. In short the BOA is a "Direct Drive" pedal. D.D. pedals are known for their precision action. This means there is no "give' in the feel at the pedal board. For some drummers it takes time to work get use to it. Not a better or worse thing...2 different concepts... sort a of like "sneakers"... high tops or low?
@wannabeKeithMoon The BOA is out of production temporarily. We are working on bringing it back into the industry in 2011. We still manufacture the "prace pedal though. Thanks for asking.

@Pearldrum07 Hi Dylan, yes , the plastic version will create far more "slap" tone. The DW pedal simple rotates and the BOA can be adjusted to expose the inner plastic cylinder.
The EC-reso works best on the larger diameter drums (13-18"). It will generate more focus, less sustain, warble. On the smaller diameter drum (8-12") switch to the "Genera-reso is a good option to consider... more clarity and sustain. However, keep in mind that SOUND is subjective... many drummers like a short sustain.
@bobgatzen I guess you are right in a lot of ways about drummer sticking to tradition. I've played similar pedals and didn't like them much. Like the pearl Demon drive for example, I rented one for a week. I found it too light and too complicated. For me it's just more things that could go wrong. BTW. I wasn't calling you stupid. I was referring to the pedals. :)
Also, does the pedal board itself flex under the foot or is it solid like other pedal boards? Can a person get real lose or real tight spring tension on this pedal? Why did DW stop production on the current line of BOA's?
How do you feel the new BOA double pedal thats coming out compares to the new axis laser double pedal? Im trying to decide on what double pedal that i want to buy so i very well may wait till the new BOA double comes out before i buy anything.
Hey Bob, do you know around what time, month wise, that DW plans to reintroduce the BOA pedals in 2011? I am interested in checking out the double pedal version.
@vafemco The BOA line is temporarily out of production. DW plans is planning updates in the line and will reintroduced 2011. Best to write DW online for more details.
Bob, I already own the single and the HH, just found a Double B.O.A. and now have it on the way, I really like the feel of these pedals over the DW9000Double that i now have, much faster, easier to setup and no noise at all, nice work bud!
@HalomasterA69 DW is distributing the BOA system. However, we pulled the single & double pedals off the market temporarily. The plan is to update and re-release them in 2011. You can write DW online more info. Thanks halo!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm really curious about these pedals. The only thing that worries me is that I play with a non-convetional style of playing. I usually play really far back on the pedalboard. But for slower stuff, Jazz and Ballads I play what I call "flat" like what I can see, you do. The question is, will this work for me?
@JerryBeatFreak Hi Jerry, The BOA works best for forward positioning of the foot, hell up or down. Honestly, I can't tell you if it will work for you. The only solution is to track one down and try it for yourself. Most players have adapted to it for its smooth, quick action and quietness.
bob hey i took your advice and i tried a new snare head and i put in on broke it in naturally then 2 weeks later the sticker for the evans ec reverse fell of then later the stickers around the head fell :( i trusted you bob lol
@SmurfDrums310 Are you saying the protective patch mounted on the inside surface of the head fell off, than the other duel outer rings as well? If so, that's is very unusual !! Can you take a picture of it and send to me? My address is bob@startartscom. I'll need it to have Evans to send you a replacement or.... you can contact Evans on-line.
thank you bob i will send you a pic but a replacement is not necessary i know your being nice but you know its a risk trying something new but ill just go back to remo heads :) thank you any ways and ill be sure to send you the pic bob oh and p.s you are god on drums
@TheColbles2009 Not that I know off...Ebay? The HH and Practice pedals are still available but the single & dbl is at this time scheduled for a 2011 release. Wish I had better news.
i was disappointed to discover that the pedal was discontinued. I spoke with a dw representative and he said that the pedal was momentarily discontinued do to a shortage in the parts for the pedal system. HE SAID THAT PRODUCTION WILL RESUME IN THE FUTURE!!!!!!
@TamaJAK hang in there my friend, I'm not about to let this innovation being thrown into the "invention Graveyard" My agreement with DW is exactly how they responded to you. It should be back into the market by 2011.
hi bob, i tried the BOA single pedal at samash last year's summer, i really enjoyed everything of it but then i didn't have enough money. Now i saved up but then i heard they're not available anymore?:( Do u have any idea on when its gonna come back to the market?
@johnnyquach1915691 and i think some thing like the Z- Link Drive Shaft of pearl's eliminator demon drive would make this BOA a perfect pedal? what do you think bob? Since Pearl states that it makes the 2nd pedal as fast and precise as the first, does that means it will have the same balance and let the 2 pedal be in unison? or is it something similar to the Zero Backlash drive of yours? i'm just interested thats all
Hi Bob, congratulations for this fantastic creation! I have the DW 5000 double bass pedal and I want to change the beaters... what do you think about Hardcore beaters? What about their advantages and disadvantages?
I dream about some day I have these BOA pedals under my feet!
@dashiell1988 Well thank you d! It's one of my favorite inventions...you only allowed a couple of those in your career you know...heh heh. The HD beater was designed especially for the BOA pedal. DW decided it works beautifully on all pedal systems. It's light weight, adjustable and produces a "Slap" sound quality that other pedal beaters lack. Not a huge investment...good idea to try one. If you have any Q's feel free to write me.
Hello Bob, I hoping you can give me some advice. It's great to see that you respond to the comments. I'm saving up to get a double bass pedal. I'm looking into buying a 9000 double bass pedal, but it's a bit pricey. I've tried the 9000 and really like them. I play different styles of music, so I need a versatile pedal, what do you recommend? I know that the BOA pedal isn't available right now and I've never tried it. How does it compare to the 9000. What do you recommend? Thanks.
WOW Bob this pedal looks amazing! It seems like it would be extremely easy to push down yet still have a very quick "up kick" for fast playing. Is there anyway I can get these? Also, I was wondering if you have any exercises for improving stick work and dexterity? My sticking if pretty good at the moment but I am always trying to find a way to be better so is there anything I can do with and without sticks that would help me improve in this area?
@8u77355 Thanks 8... the BOA is a unique, original design that works. We are currently updating the BOA system to be released near years end. However, you can contact Drum Workshop for details. The bible for developing technique is "STICK CONTROL" by George Stone. I grew up exploring his method. You can apply it to 4-limb and dynamic independence as well.
Also, check out the "Warm-Ups" of the pros on the Evans website.
@flaze15 The spring mechanism on the Axis is traditional, a coil spring. The BOA utilizes a hi-tech carbon fiber plate that acts as both the pedal board and the spring mechanism. I prefer the BOA for it's simplicity in design, dead silent action and precision beater motion.
We decided to temporarily, pull it off the market in an effort to develop the 2nd generation BOA system. It was a mutual decision that makes total sense, especially during this sluggish economy. However, it's always helpful to write DW just to let them know that you're interested in the BOA design.
The Practice pedal is similar in feel but does not fully resemble the actual feel of the pedal. It's asset is portability. Frankly, I've haven't found a practice pedal yet that duplicates the feeling of the beater striking real drum head.
We are working on lowering the price point while making design improvements. Just not selling enough of them. Radical, innovative designs are a hard sell... especially in this economy. Hope to have them back in the industry next year. Thanks for asking.
i like at 7:40 how he stops the pedal befor they stop on there own just as they fall out of scink i know this is an old video but the pearl demon drive has this beat hands down at every turn
2 very different animals. Unless you're adventuresome I'd consider the DW 5000 compared to the 9000. My 1st choice is the BOA. The 2nd place winner is the 5000 chain drive.
Hello Mr.Bob I am looking for beaters with a big surface area that allows for more punch the iron cobra beaters are not cutting it im starting to gig with my friends and it really needs to stand out i love my heads
We (DW) have a lot of drummers using the "Hardcore Beater" on DW pedals other than the BOA. It has a larger square footprint compared to the DW beater
I can't believe I hadn't heard about these pedals! Unfortunately, there aren't many music shops around here for me to find a place to demo them. Hopefully my local Guitar Center has a pair that I can try. I'm sure they'll be great!
7:49 yes!!! none of my pedals have ever done that before, even with the exact same settings, but I'm not so sure about how the foot board is the "spring" itself... ill have to try these out sometime...
The Zildjian "Custom" rides are bright and open sounding. If you have a local drum shop in your area check out the "used' cymbal rack. I've found many treasures that others considered "trash" this way.
We are re-incenting the BOA...should be back in the market by mid- year. Hang in there Buddy...it's for the best!

Retarded!!! WAY too damn complicated!!! I'll stick to my Iron Cobras!!! Ever heard of the KISS method? Keep It Simple Stupid!
bgggbb 1 year ago
@bgggbb Sorry you feel that way. The BOA is a very simple design. The issue is drummers holding onto tradition... it's an easy trap to fall into.
bobgatzen 1 year ago
@bobgatzen I guess you are right in a lot of ways about drummer sticking to tradition. I've played similar pedals and didn't like them much. Like the pearl Demon drive for example, I rented one for a week. I found it too light and too complicated. For me it's just more things that could go wrong. BTW. I wasn't calling you stupid. I was referring to the pedals. :)
bgggbb 1 year ago
@bgggbb No problem... not to worry... we're just a bunch of drummers trying trying our best to express ourselves!!

@bobgatzen Amazing kit BTW. Are those DW's?
bgggbb 1 year ago
@bgggbb thanks...yes. The blue flamed kit are birch shells and the black/red flamed is a maple kit

Thanks!

Hey Bob, do you know around what time, month wise, that DW plans to reintroduce the BOA pedals in 2011? I am interested in checking out the double pedal version.
drummingman 1 year ago
@drummingman Not clear on exact timing. You could write DW online for approximate timing.

Bob, Are the BOA's already available here in the Philippines? How much does it cost?
vafemco 1 year ago
@vafemco The BOA line is temporarily out of production. DW plans is planning updates in the line and will reintroduced 2011. Best to write DW online for more details.
bobgatzen 1 year ago
Bob, I already own the single and the HH, just found a Double B.O.A. and now have it on the way, I really like the feel of these pedals over the DW9000Double that i now have, much faster, easier to setup and no noise at all, nice work bud!
drumsgreg1 1 year ago
@drumsgreg1 Now that's a great message... close to my heart. I'm going to send it to the DW team. Big thanks D!

@bobgatzen is their a way i can order or buy one of these? its amazing and it looks easy to install. Nice man. ^^
HalomasterA69 1 year ago
@HalomasterA69 DW is distributing the BOA system. However, we pulled the single & double pedals off the market temporarily. The plan is to update and re-release them in 2011. You can write DW online more info. Thanks halo!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really curious about these pedals. The only thing that worries me is that I play with a non-convetional style of playing. I usually play really far back on the pedalboard. But for slower stuff, Jazz and Ballads I play what I call "flat" like what I can see, you do. The question is, will this work for me?
JerryBeatFreak 1 year ago
@JerryBeatFreak Hi Jerry, The BOA works best for forward positioning of the foot, hell up or down. Honestly, I can't tell you if it will work for you. The only solution is to track one down and try it for yourself. Most players have adapted to it for its smooth, quick action and quietness.

bob hey i took your advice and i tried a new snare head and i put in on broke it in naturally then 2 weeks later the sticker for the evans ec reverse fell of then later the stickers around the head fell :( i trusted you bob lol
SmurfDrums310 1 year ago
@SmurfDrums310 Are you saying the protective patch mounted on the inside surface of the head fell off, than the other duel outer rings as well? If so, that's is very unusual !! Can you take a picture of it and send to me? My address is bob@startartscom. I'll need it to have Evans to send you a replacement or.... you can contact Evans on-line.

@bobgatzen
thank you bob i will send you a pic but a replacement is not necessary i know your being nice but you know its a risk trying something new but ill just go back to remo heads :) thank you any ways and ill be sure to send you the pic bob oh and p.s you are god on drums

TheColbles2009 1 year ago
@TheColbles2009 Not that I know off...Ebay? The HH and Practice pedals are still available but the single & dbl is at this time scheduled for a 2011 release. Wish I had better news.

@TheColbles2009 I was just at Steve's Music store today in Ottawa, and they had a BOA double kick on the floor for sale

i was disappointed to discover that the pedal was discontinued. I spoke with a dw representative and he said that the pedal was momentarily discontinued do to a shortage in the parts for the pedal system. HE SAID THAT PRODUCTION WILL RESUME IN THE FUTURE!!!!!!
TamaJAK 1 year ago
@TamaJAK hang in there my friend, I'm not about to let this innovation being thrown into the "invention Graveyard" My agreement with DW is exactly how they responded to you. It should be back into the market by 2011.
bobgatzen 1 year ago
hi bob, i tried the BOA single pedal at samash last year's summer, i really enjoyed everything of it but then i didn't have enough money. Now i saved up but then i heard they're not available anymore?:( Do u have any idea on when its gonna come back to the market?
johnnyquach1915691 1 year ago
@johnnyquach1915691 and i think some thing like the Z- Link Drive Shaft of pearl's eliminator demon drive would make this BOA a perfect pedal? what do you think bob? Since Pearl states that it makes the 2nd pedal as fast and precise as the first, does that means it will have the same balance and let the 2 pedal be in unison? or is it something similar to the Zero Backlash drive of yours? i'm just interested thats all
johnnyquach1915691 1 year ago
@johnnyquach1915691 We are aiming for the 2011 season. The HH and practice pedal are still available. Thanks Johnny for your interest in the BOA!

Hi Bob, congratulations for this fantastic creation! I have the DW 5000 double bass pedal and I want to change the beaters... what do you think about Hardcore beaters? What about their advantages and disadvantages?
I dream about some day I have these BOA pedals under my feet!
Cheers from Spain!
dashiell1988 1 year ago
@dashiell1988 Well thank you d! It's one of my favorite inventions...you only allowed a couple of those in your career you know...heh heh. The HD beater was designed especially for the BOA pedal. DW decided it works beautifully on all pedal systems. It's light weight, adjustable and produces a "Slap" sound quality that other pedal beaters lack. Not a huge investment...good idea to try one. If you have any Q's feel free to write me.
Bob

Hello Bob, I hoping you can give me some advice. It's great to see that you respond to the comments. I'm saving up to get a double bass pedal. I'm looking into buying a 9000 double bass pedal, but it's a bit pricey. I've tried the 9000 and really like them. I play different styles of music, so I need a versatile pedal, what do you recommend? I know that the BOA pedal isn't available right now and I've never tried it. How does it compare to the 9000. What do you recommend? Thanks.
clean93eg 1 year ago
@clean93eg The DW 5000 series is tried and true at a reasonable price point.

I want one! But even if it was available, it would probably be overpriced considering it would be a DW pedal :(

bobgatzen 1 year ago
WOW Bob this pedal looks amazing! It seems like it would be extremely easy to push down yet still have a very quick "up kick" for fast playing. Is there anyway I can get these? Also, I was wondering if you have any exercises for improving stick work and dexterity? My sticking if pretty good at the moment but I am always trying to find a way to be better so is there anything I can do with and without sticks that would help me improve in this area?
8u77355 1 year ago
@8u77355 Thanks 8... the BOA is a unique, original design that works. We are currently updating the BOA system to be released near years end. However, you can contact Drum Workshop for details. The bible for developing technique is "STICK CONTROL" by George Stone. I grew up exploring his method. You can apply it to 4-limb and dynamic independence as well.
Also, check out the "Warm-Ups" of the pros on the Evans website.

bob i have a question, what is the dfference between these and axis, i was wondering which would you prefer?
flaze15 1 year ago
@flaze15 The spring mechanism on the Axis is traditional, a coil spring. The BOA utilizes a hi-tech carbon fiber plate that acts as both the pedal board and the spring mechanism. I prefer the BOA for it's simplicity in design, dead silent action and precision beater motion.
bobgatzen 1 year ago
hey bob i went on the dw site and the pacific drums site and i couldnt find anything about the boa pedal.was it discontinued?
HOPExxDRUMMER 1 year ago
We decided to temporarily, pull it off the market in an effort to develop the 2nd generation BOA system. It was a mutual decision that makes total sense, especially during this sluggish economy. However, it's always helpful to write DW just to let them know that you're interested in the BOA design.
Thanks,
Bob

kickdrum100 1 year ago
do you guys still have the practice pedal on the market? in relation to the actual pedal how do they feel like wise?
kickdrum100 1 year ago
The Practice pedal is similar in feel but does not fully resemble the actual feel of the pedal. It's asset is portability. Frankly, I've haven't found a practice pedal yet that duplicates the feeling of the beater striking real drum head.
bobgatzen 1 year ago
hi bob... why are this pedals descontinued??
epachosoul 1 year ago
We are working on lowering the price point while making design improvements. Just not selling enough of them. Radical, innovative designs are a hard sell... especially in this economy. Hope to have them back in the industry next year. Thanks for asking.

Hey great demonstration Bob and great pedals, i have a question which would you buy this or dw9000's?
DRAG0NSIN7 2 years ago
2 very different animals. Unless you're adventuresome I'd consider the DW 5000 compared to the 9000. My 1st choice is the BOA. The 2nd place winner is the 5000 chain drive.

Hello Mr.Bob I am looking for beaters with a big surface area that allows for more punch the iron cobra beaters are not cutting it im starting to gig with my friends and it really needs to stand out i love my heads
any suggestions?
Sk8terkids911 2 years ago
We (DW) have a lot of drummers using the "Hardcore Beater" on DW pedals other than the BOA. It has a larger square footprint compared to the DW beater

They actually look pretty dam good! They look light on the foot and fast! I'd love a pair!

I can't believe I hadn't heard about these pedals! Unfortunately, there aren't many music shops around here for me to find a place to demo them. Hopefully my local Guitar Center has a pair that I can try. I'm sure they'll be great!

hey bob i was thinking about getting a DW 4000 or 7000 pedal. which would you recommend? or would the 5000 be better ? thanks
colinhammond2k7 2 years ago
I favor the 5000...it's the original "classic" design...simple and straight forward. However, these day I use the B.O.A. pedal system
bobgatzen 2 years ago
7:49 yes!!! none of my pedals have ever done that before, even with the exact same settings, but I'm not so sure about how the foot board is the "spring" itself... ill have to try these out sometime...

The Zildjian "Custom" rides are bright and open sounding. If you have a local drum shop in your area check out the "used' cymbal rack. I've found many treasures that others considered "trash" this way.
