Need the best doctor, equipment, or coach? Centralized access of the best of everything .....since the state owns all of it (price = no object = great advantage).

Gob bless the soviet union. Its sad it ended. We now have too many people writing news articles, novels, and sharing their opinion. Too bad the USSR wasn't able to kill everyone with an opinion. Free speech will kill us, it is a bourgeoisie phenomenum. We need peace, socialism, and executions for anyone with differing opinions or who publishes news. Kinda like China, they're our last hope. They've got a good start on shutting down all news and information sources besides the state.
@jjjooommm222 You realise that the only reason that China's economy is surviving is because they're taking a Western approach towards business? Two thirds of its industry is private. Communism doesn't work.
@MilexProductions surviving? China's economy is booming. They're a unique economic case. They combine centralized planning with private industry (hence, they keep their currency artificially low which draws in foreign business). Yeah, I agree, communism doesn't work bec' it's unnatural by removing personal risk/growth. No matter, Russia's Soviet-era centralized athletics crafted incredible gymnasts - probably bec' they were so demanding.
@jjjooommm222 very funny and very wrong! because China sends plenty of students abroad to attend Western universities to tap what they don't have (partly due to lack of free speech) which is an abundance of creativity. IMO, China will eventually evolve too. You'd be daft to think that Chinese citizens want expression to be suppressed (hint: Chinese do bypass internet controls). Entrapping people like you suggest would greatly limit productivity...recall that the USSR had a brain drain too.
t4p. I used to fantisize about defecting to that just to be immersed in their techniques when I was a little kid(traitor.. lol). They and china were the best in the men's.
I know just how you feel! I remember wishing I could train over there!
That is the great Natalia Yurchenko at 1:16-1983 World Champion and maybe she would have won the Olympics-or Olga Mostepanova-had they been allowed to compete at the Los Angeles Games.
@nauxious lol! :-) what if you have a tiny miss out of medals or a stress fracture at an inopportune time? it's the gulag for you? jk..........they're demanding perfectionists.

It looks like him, but that's actually Yuri Korolev - 1981 World Champion and a very successful Soviet gymnast throughout much of the '80s.

The height of Korolyev's Jaegar is unbelievable.
ralucagymnast 4 years ago
@ ralucagymnast - it is high, but there was an American gymnast named Charles Lakes who had an even more impressive, high-flying Jaegar.
