  • I'll be making an overnight trip to Uhwarrie on March 6th, I can't decide which trail to take!

  • i have done many long hikes in here!...make sure you bring your favorite GPS device as it is easy to get lost if you lose the trail..the serenity is fabulous

  • so are the mines around it accessible? I know they are probably old haha. Im going camping there in 3 days...just wondering

  • looks like a great trail, do you know what was the old chimney used for? great video, like the tarp and good choice of music for the video too.

  • The chimney is from a two room tenant farm house dating from the mid 1800's. I camped on that spot again a week ago. It was considerably warmer than it was in February. LOL

  • Cool video and even better gear ideas! The Birkhead is a very nice location and is only 40 minutes from my house. We hike it often and camp around Hannas Creek. Might see you there soon... Watch out for those copperheads!

  • I have not heard of open source music so thanks, I'll check out other artists. We have similar tastes in music by the way.

  • Enjoyed the vid. I really like seeing pictures or vids of the outdoors where others go. Like the make your own gear statement, it's a hobby of mine to go along with going outdoors.

  • Thanks Kamo.

I really like to make equipment and then test it in the wild.

It's always better to carry it for a couple miles and then really use it.

  • I agree, I find myself carrying extra stuff a lot on hikes, trips and such. So I make and take gear then dicide what is practical and what to leave behind based on the trip. It also helps give me ideas for refining my equipment.

  • Thanks Tim.

I really like the song. You can download the song for free at the link in my video description.

  • bush the band does a really good cover of this song too

  • Loved it. Once again the treasures of the outdoors! Great pics of your trip. I like the tarp tent as well. I carry a 8X10 but it goes over the top of the hammock.

  • Thanks Drak.

I usually use an Eagles Nest Outfitters Double Nest hammock but it was way too nippy that night. If it's under 30 F I go to ground. I use the same tarp for the hammock. I'll post a short vid of my setup.

ENO is in Asheville, NC. I like to support businesses in my region if they make good gear. Conveniently they sell through REI.

  • What a beautiful area!

    Bill

  • Thanks Bill

  • Great video!! beautiful scenery, mixed with some great music and wise words. I'm in the process of making my own gear. do you have any suggestions as to how to make a tarp tent? love to see a video on how you made yours. Ed

  • Hi Ed,

    Thanks!

I'll send you a PM with do it yourself stuff.

A tarp is one of the easiest things to make if you have access to a sewing machine.
