Did you do anything special to the wood inside the enclose such as stain or seal it? Do you plug each individual light in from each cage? How do you heat each cage?
@mehartsnakes75 feed your ball live mice for two or three weeks and then try frozen that worked for me had trouble at first with her not wanting frozen then I tried this and it worked find. like if u had no trouble with this
@fathamster1237 i tried that...... actually i think i have tried everything! i am not gonna feed him live cuz it costs more and i have 2 go 2 the store everytime to get it, i even make sure all the stuff he has is clean and his bedding is changed often, his temp and humid. is right i just dont know what 2 do
DUde awesome idea for the doors. I am building one now and I am stealing your idea. lol With very little finishing work you could put that in a store. Very nice job!
Thanks for the idea!! I will post vids of my cage when its done.. Its not as big (only two tall but check it out when I post it.
Only recommendation would be sand the plexiglass that should make it slide easier and look better. With all my cages/enclosures I am bothered by the small things like that . Great job though
I was wondering if u ever did a white bored diagram for the cage...im pretty sure I can make this just from seeing ur videos but I just wanted to know all the details on how u made everything...thanks..
hey just wondering, the actual wooden frame ill call it that you use to house your reptiles, did you build it or is it purchased? also, what do you use in terms of lighting/heating. because it doesnt look like you can fit a lamp into most any place in there? all in all im very impressed and looking to design one of my own similar to yours!
hey man i was just wandering if you can do a update on your snakes and stuff? That would be great I LOVE snakes but i cant have one because my stepmom HATES them lol and so i will have to wait 5 YEARS lol but over the summers i will be building cages like yours (or atleast try) lol but btw nice setup man. keep up the good work!
@tteezzrreell From what I've been told, it's just transparent plastic. It's also relatively lighter than real glass and cuts pretty easily. As does real glass.
@tteezzrreell plexiglass is a much more reliable alternative to real glass. plexi is a generic term for a whole host of polymers of plastic from optix acrylic to a heat treated clear ceramic. i use acrylic plexi it is durable and easy to cut with a skill saw, or scoring with a razor blade and breaking leaves a cleaner edge. i used 1/8 inch for extra security but anything will work fine.
Coolllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Never seen something like that!!!One suggestion, for the pins.Have you ever seen a ballistic knife? The pins on them, stop the spring exactly how this stops the glass. But the pins on a ballistic knife, has a keyring kind of thing, you may want to do that with this so it is easier to pull out :)
how do u heat ur cages bc im gonna build something kind of similar to that but im gonna use hinges and either one or two locks depending on if theres any flex with the set up i was looking into the heat pads but im not sure if the wood would make a difference any1 could help that b great
Great tank setup. I loved your lightning setup. Quick question: What do you do for heating? I hate using lamps because they dry out the bedding too much, and my room is too large for a space heater to maintain a solid 85 degrees. Any suggestions? I'm using a single 55 gallon plexiglass tank and i've recently converted from coconut husk to 100% cyprus bedding. I'm looking for any suggestions to help maintain humidity.
do you have any other reptiles except snakes? if so, do you think that your door system would work with an adult iguana. i am building mine a new enclosure and cant figure out how to do the doors. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
hey man really love you enclosure. i was considering building one myself so i do havee a few questions. how are you heating all of the tanks, how big is the whole enclosure, how much did it roughly cost to build?
im in the process of making my ball python a new cage. but i didnt know how to do the door ive seen different methods and yours is really easy to do... and it'll safe me alot of money
just a suggestion, but you mentioned that in the back of the enclosures there a gap at the top where baby corns can get out, why not just silicone it? that way you can seal the gap so no moisture can get in between and rot the wood and also you wont have anymore problems with escapees! two birds with one stone.
explaining everything solves possible miscommunication. if you have a problem with the way we do things stay off our sites. you dont have to look here. we like the way we do what we do.
i am planning to build a similar cage system for my redtails and trying to figure out how i want to do the doors. I like your system but will it hold adult redtails? I think it should do better than the latch type.
@knglee3rd oh yea no problem. i used 1/8'' plexi glass if you have really large red tails just use 1/4" plexi glass you will have no problems look at my updated video and instead of just using nails use finish nails and gorilla glue and you will have no problem at all
thank you very much for all the compliments on my designs. i designed a complicated air circulation system using computer fans and metal vents but never actually went through with it. i open each cage everyday to interact with my animals (holding feeding cleaning, etc. so air circulation is not an issue. if you are not opening your cages very often i would recommend using small vents on the sides of each cage. you can find a whole array of vents plastic, wood ,metal, everything at home depot.
Thank you for sharing your video....really appreciate it!!
My only concern is...I read that wood is not the best material the cage should be made from.....is that true??....Let me tell you what you think from your experience!!
thank you for your concern. i used two coats of a water proofing agent on my enclosures so the interior of the cages feels more like a gymnasium floor. if you were using un-treated wood you would run into all sorts of problems but if treated correctly wood makes a great alternative to plastic or glass. provided you have the right wood working tools. so in other words yes there are more suitable materials but they are much more pricey and if treated correctly wood works great :)
You should try and put some teflon around the edges of the glass so it slides easy. Teflon is a nonstick product that would keep it from catching or getting stuck when sliding, just in case you didnt know what it was. Dupont makes it as a paint on application.
I'm not sure if this issue has been addressed yet, but one problem I've faced in my attempts to blueprint stackable vivariums is the spacing between cages to house the heat lamps (and avoiding a possible firehazard). Is there some way you could show the back of your setup, if it's not bolted in, or somehow explain it? This is one of the most intricate videos I've come across that suit my preferences in vivariums--thanks for the information. <3
@JamieMcElroy90 hey everyone thanks for the great comments! i broke my new nikon i used to make this video and decided to screw youtube for a while lol but im back in buisness and im going to make some videos to help everyone understand my designs.
Hey there! I love the cage you built. I noticed that you had an issue with pine chips getting stuck in the track. You could take a 1-2 inch strip of plexiglass the width of the enclosure and stand it on it's edge close to the door and secure it. It keeps the chips back and doesn't interfere with viewing or anything else. Great job on the cage man.
hi their.. im from the uk and have designed a similar project for the garage. its a detached garage and gets cold so i have to fully customise my build to cater for temperature. i am moving to a smaller house with no room for the size tank i require for my 6/12 ft Rat snake and my nearly7ft Macklots python. i also have several Tarantulas. its going to be a challenge but also fun. GREAT job on the enclosure, you have persuaded me to keep the wood a natural colour. once again great job.thanks..
Kewl video and making the doors like that works great. I have my Carpets winter enclosure set up like that that I made for him. I did cover the glass edges so I didn't catch him or myself on them though. Just put some clear packaging tape along the edges. The enclosures look great!!! Thumbs up!!
I was driving down the road today thinking about building a custom cage and trying to figure out how I wanted to do the door. I thought of this very idea and decided to do a search. I assumed someone had thought of this before me and low and behold I found your video. Are these still working out well for you? They look great. I was thinking about spending a bit more and putting tempered glass in.
Where'd you buy all the wood panels and plexiglass at? What size is that wood in thickness? 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch? That enclosure looks great, I want to build something like that but for to lizards..

Great setup i comented on tou privious video and I like the modifications. How much would you say the total project cost you and how much time was spent? Looking to do something similar but after considering all the labor it would be for an inexperienced carpenter, wondering if I should just buy it. Also what is the lining of the cage floor made of? Considering the maintanence.
im probably around $500 into it by now and that is the materials and up keep over three years including two seperate designs of doors and the materials for them. the wood is all treated before construction with a water repealant so the up keep is very simple
are those uv lights in there? if so where did you get themm im building a cage similar and having a hell of a time finding lighting!
