  • Blue Spotted Tail was played in a higher key here. Robin has mad vocals, seriously. (゚∀゚);

  • wasn't that the shrine/ an argument in the beginning??

  • So i take it The shrine/an argument was supposed to be called tripolee??

  • I hope Robin gets the recognition he deserves as the musical genius that he is.

  • Fuck. Ing. Hell.

  • its almost too intense when it looks like he's staring right at you in this video.

  • lol "Folk Samurai"

  • No one besides Robin Pecknold should ever sing The Shrine/An Argument. He is as good as it gets-- perfection.

  • how can someone so young write such meaningful lyrics and for me, the most beautiful, soulful melodies.

  • Comment removed

  • @mananai5 I heard he doesn't have many friends, and ppl who keep to themselves tend to usually have a deeper perspective on life

  • niceness blues!

  • First one is end of song also known as The Shrine

  • Still think they should've merged Blue Spotted Tail with The Shrine/An Argument and perhaps cut the Kid A sounding free jazz bit. Great song nevertheless. See you soon Fleets!

  • This is fantastic. The ambience and reverberation after he sings is beautiful.

and I think the tuning if anyone is interested is: DADF#BD.

  • @JoeGaynerMusic Yeah it's this. He confirmed it via twitter once. He plays it standard during the current tour though.

  • @JoeGaynerMusic No its not. Its standard tuning with a capo on the 6th fret during the shrine. And the same tuning during the argument he just moves the capo down.

  • @freakystylntime not so certain of that my man - what I've got is working for me

  • @JoeGaynerMusic could you please tab it for DADF#BD, i got it down on standard but i love this version so much more and im killing myself trying to learn it

  • @trappedunderdicks I'm sorry dude - I don't think I'm good enough to do that. Good luck in your endeavours!

  • @trappedunderdicks Look up Fleet Foxes Documentary Music Guitar Cover, looks like he has that down.

  • Is it weird for someone to listen to this video more than 5 times in a row?

    It's so beautiful. Really.

  • can someone please tell me what tuning he is in

  • @trappedunderdicks it's ordinary tuning with the capo at the 3's fret. the cords: Am, C,F,C,G and back to Am

  • @pietrorock its not in standard, when he plays blue spotted tail he uses the same first chord from montezuma which is in dadf#bd

  • @trappedunderdicks wrong, try it :)

  • @trappedunderdicks For this solo performance, high and low E dropped to D and G down to an F#. Same tuning as Montezuma (studio) and Grown Ocean. Makes an open D6 chord.

Studio and live with band, standard. He told me that he did it dropped for the solo shows because A) the first section of this song was written in this tuning. B) it added interesting chord tones for An Argument.

  • @trappedunderdicks hey! i'm not positive but it looks like (with dat 3rd fret) D-A-D-F#-B-e

  • more solo work! definite potential for the modern niel young!

  • so nice.......

  • The first part of this is the 'Argument' part of 'The Shrine/ An Argument' that will be on the new album, the second part is 'Blue spotted tail', that will also be on there x

  • @robinpecknold

we need more ff albums man! your voice would go good w/ jim james by the way

  • Robin Pecknold is now my measure for all men - thoughtful, talented, sweet. He is wonderful.

  • 35:00-45:00 is amazing. his voice is just so powerful

  • It sounds like a really good song.

  • Lovely stuff Robin man!

  • Glorious.

  • I love his voice.

  • anybody know which tuning he uses?

  • @AZNsplatform someone asked at the show i was at. I think it was DADF#BE. i think. so like open D6/9? with capo 3.

  • @Cadence55 awesome! it totally works. thanks a lot!!!

  • robin pecknold and jim james for presidents.

  • I would give anything fot that talent:) Amazing

  • pure grunge

  • this is amazing.

saw FF live at the roundhouse in London 2 years ago. came all the way from Israel to see that show and it was one of the best shows i've ever seen.

thank you for the music guys. cant wait for the new album.

  • So excited that they're done recording!!!

  • anxiously waiting for the next album

  • Both of the songs are just brilliant. Can't wait for the new album. Great live performance btw :D

  • This is one of those performances you just can't sing along too. You have too appreciate the beauty of the artist performing his music. It's so quiet you can hear a pin drop there. That effect... is so powerful.

  • something i love about robin is that he can do covers for a countless number of songs and make them sound extraordinary and spectacular. I love him and the Fleet Foxes with a passion

  • god i love the emotion in this.

this makes me so goddamn excited for the new album.

  • Robin Pecknold and Justin Vernon in the same area? *Explodes*

  • Saw Robin Pecknold open for Joanna Newsom recently and was rattled. It reminded me of how I felt after seeing paintings by this artist who makes work to be hung upside down, as it makes your mind rely less on banked memory and instead instant feeling/perception. Only Pecknold is so refreshingly without gimmick, just standing, playing guitar, and opening his mouth wide to let this startling poetry out. So enlivening!

  • @ofcorsetis Well put.

  • In the city only for a while. Here to face the fortune and ??? ???? Is it the vibe, the vile or divide? An absolutely great song. Saw you guys in Shepherds Bush Nov 08. Can't wait to catch you again. Go strong, friend

  • i am loving this, but that is no surprise ~ this guy (you Pecknold):) is blessed with an amazing gift and channels a purity that Ive never heard through music before... it burns like a slow incense to my soul. and everyone sports the topsy tail occasionally... looks good:)

  • I am so glad that in this crapstream of pop music we're bombarded with daily that there are gems like Robin Pecknold & FF, Joanna Newsom, Ray Lamontagne and the like... Long live singer/songwriters and harmonies!!!!

  • Every time someone starts talking about vampire RPatz, I will combat them by talking about the superior samurai RPeck.

  • Tripolee is an awesome name...

  • I can NOT wait until this comes out...but alas..I must let you do your work...and this song is amazing...

  • can't wait for the next album~

  • his voice is so freakin awesome

  • Did his pick fall?

    1:28

  • @xsydneyx9180

yes he dropped it so he could start finger picking Blue spotted tail

  • Did he drop his pick?

    @1:28

  • The 500 character limit did not allow me to say the chord progressions and vocal lines in both of these songs are magnificant..melencholy and memorable.

  • This is why i love songwriting. So much power and emotion can be conveyed by only one person..in this particular instance from robin pecknold... The lyrics are amazing, vivid, and relevant. Keep it up robin, and fleet foxes...your music isnt bland, nor pretentious...its real music, and it inspires me after years without any kind of shelter to write songs again. Thank you

  • Tripolee is just the working title and what's in the video is only the middle section of the song, but it will be on the next FF album and I am the one that wrote it, to answer the Q's. Also 'Folk Samurai' is not a good look for me in retrospect

  • @robinpecknold tripolee is a good song title, even if you can remember the word you'd recognize it written down instantly. oh god please check out my music posts i cite you as a huge influence

  • @robinpecknold Dude, love the Samurai look. Keep it.

  • @robinpecknold...the hair def evokes a john belushi quality. can't knock it till u try it right?

  • @robinpecknold well the hair def evokes a certain john belushi nostalgia...but hey can't knock it til u try it, yes?

  • @robinpecknold Not fated to pretend. Love this, love you!

  • @robinpecknold Dude I'm a big fan! Keep up the excellent work we all love you and fleet foxes so much. I feel like I'm in a mystical idyllic landscape whenever I listen to your music. Peace

  • @robinpecknold Lol !! I love you Robin :)

  • @robinpecknold so you ARE snooping around YouTube

  • @robinpecknold This is one of those performances you just can't sing along to. You have to appreciate the beauty of the artist performing his music.

It's so quiet you can hear a pin drop there. Such power and emotion comes from silence..

Also, Fleet Foxes need to come to Philadelphia.

  • @robinpecknold lol its nice to hear it from the man

  • @robinpecknold oh and also i think you look beautfiul with less facial hair...just a bit of shadow looked best on you lol....btw what are some of your favorite albums ever??

  • @robinpecknold I love you Robin, I cry at the sound of your voice. And when your show was sold out I stood outside in the freezing cold dark night just for the chance at hearing your sweet voice. ;D

  • @robinpecknold its not in the looks, rob. its in the music. it wouldn't matter if you looked like boy george. your songs look amazing.

    love,

    Portland, Oregon.

  • @robinpecknold

Hey Robin. First off your new material is outstanding mate. If you don't mind, what are the chords to Tripolee? is it standard tuning?

  • @robinpecknold I think you look cool.

  • @robinpecknold I'm just now discovering your music. I've been listening thoroughly to your albums and have decided that, in my opinion, you are the greatest musician of this century. Its great to know that there are people out there making beautiful music in the midst of all the c**p being put out now. If only more of my generation would take inspiration from you.

  • @robinpecknold Can you guys release a electro funk/folk album PLEASE

  • Where can I get the lyrics for Tripolee?

  • I was there, he was good.

I guess NOBODY recorded anything by Joanna Newsom that night.

I regret not doing it but I was so in her eye-line that I was nervous about holding up a camera.

  • absolutely love him.

  • I agree that Robin is awesome, but I find I like J Tillman's solo stuff just as much!

  • amazing

  • Does anyone know who the first song was written by before Blue Spotted Tail or is it an orginal? cause if so im psyched for the next Fleet Foxes album.

  • hmmmmmmm... i didnt really like the change at all ... but i think he is improving the songs, caise they are not really ready

  • Who has written that "Tripolee" song? Great video, thank you!

  • This man is just so wonderfull..... i cant put it into words but he could sing anything at all and u would have to stop dead in ur tracks and listen..... He is brilliant.

  • @natejoel99 @robinpecknold should record a chinese menu song just to see if that is true.

  • Makes me want to read medieval literature all day long.

  • wonderful.

  • jesus.
