You know BY LAW I have always made my contributions to the pension fund. AND I pay my real estate taxes BY LAW. So I think I am paying more to my pension then these low life who want to cut mine. Why don't they hit up these "Legislators" for the balance. And the reason they hit up the teachers is they borrowed against there pension and now they have to pay the piper. Police and Fire pension blocked legislation to borrow against there pension.
This is about as dishonest as these propaganda campaigns get. You note that you're not targeting state workers as "beggars" and that you agree that the problem is the legislature itself. Yet there is no mention of this in the ad. In a not-so-subtle fashion it suggests the problem is the pension system itself, rather than feckless legislators. If you really wanted to target them, then that should have been the focus of your ad.
If you're going to be hacks, at least own up to it.

@asoarashold The concept was created by a former news photographer in Colorado. We thought it had strong impact, so we contacted him, purchased the rights and in fact, invited him to come to Chicago to help produce the spot.
@jakebig13 We agree with you. This is not the fault of the employees. It is the fault of our legislators who have not kept up their end of the bargain. They have offered pension plans they cant afford to pay and have pushed off pension payments to the future. They have let employees down and ultimately, us and the employees will be the ones to pay.
@IllinoisIsBroke Still, then why use state employees as the "beggars?" Why not make an ad placing legislators in such a position? You misrepresent the very position you took in the previous comment.
@jakebig13 We are not using, and have no intention of portraying, state employees as 'beggars.' The ad is directed at teachers because that is the main audience we are trying to reach. Again, we are not trying to place blame on state workers. Instead, why don’t we put the blame on those who really deserve it: LEGISLATORS. It's time they took action on pension reform before it is too late.
@jakebig13 It is due to the fact that the lawmakers have been pulling funds out of the Teacher Retirement System for years. They are aiming our message at teachers because they are the ones who pensions are being effected.
This is not the fault of the employees...yet you obviously put the blame and consequences onto state employees...many who have worked many years for this state, and you want to destroy their pensions and benefits. I am not a teacher, but I have put in 8.5% into this pension, work a job most are not willing to even think about, work holidays with crappy days/hours, and I have done this 10 years and you want to take it from us. Go after the politicians, welfare reform, etc.
@SisterMar100 Interesting comment. The ad never mentions cutting teacher pensions. It rightly mention fact the child gets a $30,000 bill for the "good luck" of being born in Illinois. It unfortunately doesn't mention that the $30,000 bill increases DAILY and should have the effect of reminding the mother that election choices have financial consequences.........Suppose ad maker could have said 3 of last 4 governors charged with financial corruption but can't cover everything in 30 seconds

Retread ad. Why did you copy this nearly word for word from this ad? Can't come up with an original idea? You ought to at least mention you stole it.
Do a youtube search for 'doorbell'. The powerlineblog did this ad in august 2011.

This is sick. Got to ask why these people are so intent on cutting teacher pensions but are asking for help for corporate Illinois.
