Anyone else find the sight of a ballerina doing a time step really funny? The only way this clip would be more perfect is if they'd have gotten Fred to dance out with Ginger at the end!
Are you referring to the number after their names? The title of the special was "Night of 100 stars", they're simply numbering them as they come to the stage.
It's amazing how everyone that came out on that stage stepped up to the plate and laid his or her game down quite flat. When it comes to true show business sparkle, nobody dazzles you like a dancer can.
I attended this GREAT historic evening. This was actually the 2nd take. One of the extra dancers tripped half way thru and they had to start over. Each star danced their special magic on that stage FLAWLESSLY. Do you think in the next 25 years you will see any of the people from Dancing with the Stars in this type of setting ---- "NOT"! The ticket cost $1000.00 back in 85. All left with RCMH delighted!!!
I wonder why Ann Miller wasn't part of this number? She certainly could out-tap almost everyone on stage, even in 1985. Perhaps she deferred to her friend Ginger Rogers, or maybe Rogers refused to do the number if Miller was involved???
@fluffydoll3 Donald could hold his own at 12 years of age next to Bing Crosby, so holing his own with a bad heart next to Ginger Rodgers was probably a piece of cake!
It was wonderful to see all of them! The young Donny and Debbie Allen, Juliet Prowse and Nanette Fabray with those glorious legs, that sexy Christopher Walkin, my favorite Gregory Hines - oh what a great video. Thank you so much for sharing.
That clip is fantasic and to top it off tht production with Ginger Rogers is terrific. I saw her in person
about 6 months before she died. She was in a wheelchair and obviously had been through a lot as far as illness, but she answered questions from the crowd and was very lovely and gracious. She was a classy lady and she gave a lot to us. Thank you for the clip.
From 7:21 onwards this video is magical, purely because of the one and only Donald O'Connor!

Donald O'Connor had a bad heart at this time. He was not supposed to dance anymore. Yet, here he was, holding his own with the best of them!

In her last years of career, Ginger seems to fell so happy and generous when she dances... She gives her best: Fantastic video, unique woman !
