97% of prius sold are still on the road today they are not driven hard if you want to save fuel you will accelerate gradually and avoid braking situations. The cars can go faster but improper acceleration defeats the purpose of owning the car. One of the benefits of responsible driving is the car has far better than average longevity.
After driving 125K miles and my prius has paid for itself in fuel savings alone and their are many on the road today that have over 300K miles on them bc they are driven responsibly in order to achieve decent mileage. The money we have saved with the car so far pays us in intere$t more than we can use in fuel for our normal use. It is the way of the future the next car is the plug in hybrid prius that thing is going to freak you guys out it is gonna be fast 15 miles all electric get ready.
@cdltpx You are going to see some prius owners nearly push your ass out the way the cars are not slow the drivers are driving slow to save fuel with 15 miles of all electric many drivers will use those electric miles for start and city driving why waste the juice on the highway when the ICE is better for that stuff. Many prius drivers don't have highway drives they have street runs the entire commute of 15 miles or less they just might opt to use those electric miles in the am for torque.
A guy with a HUMMER is talking about how people perceive a Prius? LOL. When I see a Hummer, I automatically think dumb, over-compensating (you know what I mean) asshole. I read an article once where it was talking about how people with Hummers finally gave them up because they were getting tired of people yelling at them "asshole" and flipping them the bird whenever they were out.
Mmmmmmmmmgay, homohomohomohomohomo hahaha, hate that rubbish car, shouldn't exist, Honda FCX Clarity should be the one for clean driving, only emissions is water.
Who is this comedian, and the place Madison Square Garden?
Ok. Maybe I fit the stereotype. I am a gay man that drives a Prius. Though mine is a manly black Prius. What about the car gives people the impression that it is a gay car? I would say far from it. When I go to my local gay bar, I tend to see more Jeeps (several models). Plenty of Honda's (several models). Lot's of trucks (various brands). Rarely do I ever see a Prius other than mine in the parking lot. If anything the other cars are the gayest.
Well now, It seems that you guys get pretty up and arms over cars, I just bought a Yaris the other day, and contemplating the Prius 2, now, I love the shit out of my yaris, and loved the Prius 2 when I test drove it. I've owned from a Dodge Ram 1500, to a BMW 325i, I love the mpg, yeah there might be better options, but I like the Prius, and frankly if you think something else is better, more power to ya, but I'm not going to argue with a bunch of idiots trying to tell ME what car to get.
true fact- small diesel cars get about 20-30 more miles per gallon than the prius. Also, the production of a prius's battery is extremely harmful to the earth. We keep making these excuse products so that we can feel less guilty about being such big consumers. If you really want to save the planet, just buy less stuff.
And if you really want to get good gas milage, get a VW Golf diesel or another small diesel car. they get about 70 miles a gallon on the HIGHWAY (a prius only gets about 40)
@ChuffChuffWoo No one envies people with priuses, it's a massively hated car by car specialists and *true* green eco people. Clueless idiots go ahead and buy it and say their "green." AKA celebrites....
@azmichael34 As I said, prius envey is such a terrible thing... Prius and Lexus hybrid owners are the most satisfied of all car owners according to market research.
@ChuffChuffWoo That's cause the media say hybrids are green, I'm pretty sure anyone with a brain would prefer a Ferrari, Mercedes, or a BMW over your overhyped garbage. I envy owners with good cars, not some car every moron has. People's satisfaction is like the plasebo effect, say it's green people will think it's green. In fact making a Prius gives more environmental damage in the long run than let's say, a Chevy Petrol. You want economic value? Buy a VW.
@azmichael34 VW - crampt diesel stick shift econobox - YUK! Happiness is a 1969 Dodge Charger to play with, and a Prius for smooth, quiet, comfy efficient everday driving : ))
@azmichael34 In the same way that those who clung on to horses would accuse Ford Model 'T' owners of not being real horse and buggy fans. Prius is the start of a new way of thinking, everything else is so last century. Prius - you either get it or you don't.
@ChuffChuffWoo The Prius is still a car, with a battery, yet it's just more shit than a normal car. Batteries? Veeryyy futuristic....not. Honda Clarity is much more efficient, why? HYDROGEN. Prius - You buy it you're a moron.
@azmichael34 The oil companies dont want us to have battery cars, they want to sell us hydrogen from their forcourts, so they are trying very hard to position the Prius in the minds of the people as a bad idea - and alas it appears in your case, they've suceeded! The Clarity is a Hybrid powered by Hydrogen-it wvwn has a battery in it to store energy recovered from braking.
@ChuffChuffWoo Yet we still don't care, this planet's going down with or without the oil. Wanna know how a Prius battery is made? Sulfur mining in Canada, ooh bad for the Earth. Shipped overseas to Europe, ooh pollution! Then adds more and more chemicals and shipped from A to B until it reaches Japan. It does WAY more damage in the long run, and it's worldwide, too! Face it, look at every comment here that's actually thumbed up, meaning people agree. Prius = Garbage.
@azmichael34 All cars these days are made from meterials mined all over the planet, Prius is no different, Toyota have the most advanced battery recycling system ever invented. there is more nickle in an SUV then a Prius as it's used in the rustproofing treatment and chrome! Toyota have stolen a huge lead over the likes of GM, and no amount of misleading Prius propogander will change thet.
@ChuffChuffWoo You must really have some balls to keep on blaming the heat on other cars and praising Toyota. The thing I like about Toyotas are that they are very reliable cars. The thing is, whenever most people with common sense see a Prius come down the block, they think," Wow, trying REAL hard to act 'eco'..." Any REAL eco-mentalist would tell you that the Prius is utter garbage compared to other cars. The media, unfortunately, has actually fooled you, the Prius makes you look like a cock.
@ChuffChuffWoo And don't come asking me about stupid eco stuff because to me that is nonsense. I actually asked people that know what they are actually talking about saying the Prius is not the best hybrid to get to be environmentally friendly, they say Honda, VW, or even taking a bus or riding a bicycle is more efficient and eco-friendly than a Prius. Sorry mate, look at megadriver6's comment, you are nothing but a...wannabe.
@azmichael34 Rubbish. You just carry on driving your gas guzzlers and paying my taxes on your fuel duty whilst I glide around in a car that's smoother then a Rolls Royce at a fraction of the cost - Love my Prius!
@ChuffChuffWoo Rolls Royce has more pedigree. AND it is WAY more comfortable and fast. Mercedes Benz are much more luxurious AND fast. Audi's look sporty. BMW's are very fast. Nissan is very advanced. Honda makes better hybrids. Muscles are fast in a straight line. JDM cars can be bought and tuned and most of them cost less than a prius. Take the Honda Civic for example. Diesels are cheaper and get more Miles Per Gallon. Full throttle a Prius you'd be lucky enough to get 40 mpg. Your car is junk
@azmichael34 So you're saying that Honda makes better hybrids? Really, please tell me why Honda has had more replacment battery packs on their Insight, then ALL of the Toyota Hybrids put together. Or tell me why Honda's IMA has to run the engine even if just the AC is on...ya that's very eco friendly and efficient. Seeing that you're 14, I don't think you can call any car junk, simply because you can't even drive one.
@smokedame Do you really think people would post their real age on YouTube? And going to my channel to find something to inuslt me with is just pathetic. Looking at your comment, I can tell you're an idiot. So tell me, did the Prius win green car awards from 06-11? No, the Chevrolet Ford Fusion Hybrid did, so did Honda with the FCX Clarity, VW Polo Bluemotion and Jetta TDI, and most of them cost less than a Prius. You simply cannot say it was won by popularity.
@azmichael34 Only idiot in this convo is yourself. Why else come back with all the names at people? And what is a Chevrolet Ford Fusion Hybrid? You do know that Ford paid Toyota for parts of their hybrid system. And don't start comparing a tiny polo to a Prius. None of the cars you mention cost less then a Prius. Why would the Prius win from 06-11? It's the same basic car from 04+, which ofcourse DID win awards.
@smokedame Go on then, you silly Prius elitist. People like you are the reason why people HATE the prius. Not to mention the 65mpg bull that Toyota keeps on saying. Maybe once in a month it will do that. But the only way a modern hybrid can do better than a modern diesel is on cities. But that's where hybrids do best, stopping. Take that thing out on a highway which is almost guaranteed you'll have to do, BOOM, 40-50 mpg. Not to mention it's tiny fuel tank. And that tiny polo does more mpg.
@azmichael34 Ofcourse that tiny polo does more, because it's TINY. Put the HSD system in a Yaris and it'll blow that polo away. Mine is 80% hwy driven and I always get 63mpg with at least 2 people in the car. Your logic makes no sense on hwy vs city. Put a tdi in the city which you're guaranteed to drive in, or even on the hwy be stuck in stop and go, and the Prius (once again) blows a tdi away. There's a reason vw is trying to make a hybrid...it's just full of electrical demons right now.
@smokedame And to your highway mpg comment, multiple tests show that BMW diesels get at least 5-10 mpg better on a highway. How to make a Prius better: More torque to pull that box on a highway without using too much power, better styling, better handling, smaller dashboard, lighter body = uses less power to use less gas. AND you need to seriously quit defending your car, people won't like it because YOU say so, and I'm not gonna like it anytime soon. I'll leave ya alone to reply or shut up.
@azmichael34 the calculations your seeing are in a Euro gallon, which is bigger then the american gallon, hence why you think the diesels are getting 5-10 mpg more. Use the same unit of measurement for both vehicles. I need to quit defending the Prius? The Prius does a great job of that all on it's own, I don't need to defend it, remember, you're the one that started arguing with me, and on a comment over a year old. You're not going to like it anytime soon, and I won't like any euro diesels
@smokedame Wow, I gave you a choice to quit this but you keep rambling on like people will actually give a shit about the Prius. No wonder people hate Prius drivers, seriously. Reply to this and you're one troll.
@azmichael34 I will reply to whatever I want, it has nothing to do with what car people drive. Of couse, no one could of actually read "I'll leave ya alone to reply or shut up" And I'm the troll? You're the one who replied to my year old post in the first place. You're just upset because hybirds are better then diesels and you probably pissed your money into a tdi....and you probably have nothing but problems with it like most people. Reply to this, and I'll know I'm right.
@smokedame They don't use any recycled parts in it...mainly because they can't.
The Lithium-Ion batteries are what cost the most to make, especially on the environment. Go look up "How It's Made: Lithium Batteries", then tell me that doesn't take a shit-ton of energy to make.
@smokedame That one was my mistake, I will admit. But, those batteries are very expensive to make. In fact, after a bit of searching, I did find out that the Prius outdoes the Hummer in Environmental damage. I'd link ya, but Youtube doesn't allow links in comments.
@Natesmodelrailroad and if you did more research, you'd find out that that was done by a marketing research company a LONG time ago, and has been debunked MANY times. For starters, they claim the Prius can only last 100,000 miles vs a hummer at 300,000 miles. And everyone knows no gm product is going to last that long without sinking lots of money into it. 200,000 miles on my Prius, with nothing more then oil changes done to it. Still on original brakes even.
@Natesmodelrailroad I have to tell you that what you've read is old news. That was proven very flawed and isn't true. I could send you many links to back up the proof as well, but like you said, youtube won't let you. Do some more research and you'll see for yourself. Also, the battery IS recycled, 100%. Toyota has been doing that since the Rav4EV which was launched back in the mid 90s. Soooo many rumors about the hybrid technology......
@loweredtalon Mind your own business you elitist twat. Prius and the owners in general are hated. SEveral reports of people burning them down, breaking their windows, and keying them. And those batteries will cost more than your entire savings of those gas prices. Not to mention any living man driving in a Prius looks like a total cunt. People make fun of you Prius owners, journalists, bloggers, editors, publishers, even television and media. SMUG, you arrogant douche.
@loweredtalon Besides, I saw your comment, you keep on replying to me, you just contradicted yourself on that last comment. Nothing will stop me from hating a Prius, I'm just trying to get people like you to stop being such a smug little moron about owning a 22k hybrid. Don't even try to join the autoworld as, yes, you own that car, you're a joke.
@azmichael34 Good luck with whatever you're trying to do, cuz so far all I see is you trying, yes TRYING to get people to hate a car. I got news for you, it's a CAR, and it does just what cars are suppose to do, get you from point A to point B. You aren't going to convince anyone of anything, especially with your attitude. The batteries are not nearly as much to replace as people like you want to think. I can tell your fingers were just FLYING to type that back to me, makes me laugh at you.
If you actually knew anything about a Prius, you wouldn't be on here arguing it. That's the first thing I noticed when I got my Prius. SOOO many people think they know what they are talking about...you're just another one to add to the list. It's amazing how many people can get so worked up over a car
@azmichael34 And not everyone will want the cars you're promoting, myself included. I fail to see where Toyota ever claimed it as a performance vehicle. Styling is subjected, you might not like it while others might. I for one don't like anything Porsche has ever built. I certainly wouldn't want a bmw outside of warranty, that's like playing russian roulette with a loaded gun
@ChuffChuffWoo Not to mention you sound like a girl, "YUK!" If you're a guy, Jeff Dunham is right. People who drive priuses " Like it in blueee, and drive around with my wittle dog in my lap! With decorations around it!" AKA = Homo.
@azmichael34 Cheap personel comments are the classic sign of someone who has lost and arguement and has run out of things to say. You just carry on driving your inefficient and wasteful gas guzzler or tinny econobox whilst emptying the contents of your wallet into the pockets of the Middle East oil barons whilst I continue to waft about in a car that gives me Lexus ride quality at econobox running costs and impeccable enviromental creadentials.
@ChuffChuffWoo You've never even ridden in a Lexus judging by yor comment. Your comparisons are all trash. Ride quality has been winning by Lexus and so has safety. In fact - Lexus has won many other more awards. Toyota, they get great safety ratings, reliability, and smooth comfort, not the Prius. I've ridden in my friend's Prius, the most boring event of my life. And me? Out of things to say? You're the one repeating the same line, " drive your gas-guzzlers or *tiny* econobox" You're pathetic.
@azmichael34 " drive your gas-guzzlers or tiny econobox" - And I'll carry on saying it untill people realise that a Prius is a far better can then a 3 cylinder VW without the gas guzzling downside of a big cruser...
Yeah, people. Don't be stingy with your time. An average human only lived around 80 years old. New Yorker spent at least two hours aday commute, that is only 1/8 of their waking hours.
So don't be stingy with that half of hour waiting. What are you going to do anyway? watching porn?
@runnermonkey : Get your fact straight please. It's already been proven that almost all accusation were false and the so called "evidence" had been forged.
Besides it's amazing these so called accidents only happened in the US and nowhere else. Makes you wonder about the driving abilities of the Americans don't you think?
@kotegashi the fact is toyota was fined and would not have been fined if they didnot have problems, toyotas problems are ongoing,IN FACT toyota admitted it has problems,no myth just fact and toyota got caught
The Prius is a joke. All hybrids are jokes. They're not all that fuel effecient. To make a hybrid car pollutes the air 10x more a normal car would. In the meantime, just by a diesel and wait till technology improves.
My girlfriend wanted a Prius..talked her out of it finally! She drives a Tahoe....worry about her safety more than saving a few dollars at the pump! I'd hate to get t-boned in the Prius! I'll keep my T-Bird!
Excellent, loved it. I got a prius stuck in my tire last week and didn't even realize what the twink, twink, twink noise was till it flew out the back.
The show is great. Take the "advice" with a grain of salt and enjoy it. Just like you used to enjoy Saturday morning cartoons. It's supposed to be fun, and moderately informative, not the end all be all of fact.

I'm never coming back to check on this post, so don't bother bashing me. That being said:
Top Gear! Is registered as a non-fiction program. Now I'll agree with all the comments following this one, about how that doesn't mean anything, and you're right. However, the fact is that Jeremy Clarkson is more influential in the automotive industry than anyone else alive. Good cars have failed because he said they suck and bad cars have succeed because of this praise.
Lots of reasons of my own, and TONS of places with real life data to prove people like you and alex wrong.
My own are, $25 to drive 1000kms/tank ($45 when gas was high). 130,000kms and nothing but oil and gas. Even the brakes are original as they aren't used like a regular car due to the regen braking.
The civic I had before the Prius had 2 brake jobs at this point.
I've got others but out of space to type.
As smoke said, do your own research and you'll see what I'm talking about
The Volkswagen Jetta clean diesel costs about 24.5K base MSRP and does 30/42 mpg versus an I4 Toyota Camry which costs about the same but does only 22/30 AND the Camry emits MORE CO2
If you really want a hybrid, get a Honda Insight - it is about 3K base MSRP less than the Prius, and when compared using the same method to the Civic saloon, it takes 12.6 years to offset the extra cost. Still utterly ridiculous and idiotic - not to mention hideous as well! - hybrids are a gayass waste of money. If you want to save money on petrol costs, get one of VW's new clean diesels, which are much smoother, quieter and emit 500 times less sulfur than typical diesels of 30 years ago
And as we all know, the Prius's batteries are shit after about 160K kilometers, whereas 14 years and 25,000 every year is a massive 354,000 kilometers. Plus the Prius is ugly as shit, and does MORE environmental damage in the long run than a large V6 saloon (a la Toyota Avalon) because of the very dirty manufacturing process involved in producing the batteries. Prius = EPIC FAIL
oh ya...Prius' batteries are shit after 160,000kms? Where did you read that?
You are just another typical youtube person who hears something on the internet and believes it. The warranty on the battery is 160,000kms. Based on what your saying anything past it's warranty needs to be replaced.
You know nothing of what you are talking about. Only epic fail is you.
And comparing a Corolla to a Prius? Is something the matter with you? Why would you compare a much smaller car to the Prius.
Does more environmental damage then good? Please, I'd LOVE to hear that one. And don't start quoting Clarkson, or some other Saturday morning cartoon show.
VW, please, your kidding right? Clean diesel? Should be CLEANER diesel, cuz no diesel is clean...no such thing.
And once again, you go quoting a smaller car then the Prius. jetta isn't even close to a Prius, and if you want to talk looks, the jetta is ugly.
I'll keep my 1000km/tank Prius that costs $30 to fill thanks.
Dumbass, do you have eyes? The Prius and Corolla are about the same size, the Corolla is a little smaller. Did you know that modern diesels emit 500 times less sulfur than they did in the 70s?
I have SAT in both Prius and Corolla and believe me, fucker, they are similar
I want to say that current diesels are a much better choice if you want an efficient vehicle, plus the Prius is way overpriced, is fucking ugly and just sucks ass overall
Diesel engines burn fuel more efficiently than gas engines, when you compare them, a diesel produces fewer harmful emissions and gets better mpg. The only 'dirty' diesel was the 2-stroke diesels. And dont call me dumb, i know what I'm talking about.
@alexkvaskov that's because they need a fuckload more room in the prius to put all the hybrid shit, the lowerredtalon is right, teh prius is on a midsize car platform, but a lot of space is sacrificed for the eco-friendlyness of the car
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
roflmao you shouldn't even be talking dumbass, you say the jetta is ugly. sure it may be a bit bland, but that's coming from someone who like a prius. nice taste!! LMFAO
you shouldn't even be talking if you like the prius
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
first of all, i don't have anything to prove to you, second i couldn't care less about the prius, third, the prius sucks for many reason and there's nothing to magically change that, fourth, you're simply an annoying bugger
I never said you had anything to prove to me...but you've put yourself exactly where I said you belonged.
You can careless about the car, doesn't make any difference to me, BUT, the car doesn't 'suck' as you put it. Your reasons are fictitious and have been proven time and time again that they are. I'm an annoying 'bugger'? Your the one that keeps replying.....even after you've said you won't.
I've been watching you and the other guy talking. You have nothing to back up anything you say. All you have is calling him names, like honestly, grow up.
There are tons of things out there that will prove that the Prius is a much better car then people will have you believe. You need to stop watching top gear and other shitty shows. You are obviously some punk kid who believes everything they are told.
Unless you have some sort of proof to back up what you say, STFU
@smokedame ah, we have another prius fanboy here. as for top gear, you merely called the best show in the world crap. a show that is funny in an intelligent way, unlike all the other shit on nowadays. what do you watch, gay ass shit like the office?
top gear is nothing but lies and crap. the cars show cased aren't everyday vehicles. Sorry, but their testing is the worst on tv and it's only on tv because people like you will watch it.
@smokedame People watch Top Gear because it is funny and has very entertaining challenges. And see supercars and hilarious reviews that we all know are biased. Yes, I know your comment is a year old but it really just annoyed me...
Prius is an atrocious car, My friend has the new one. I'd much rather have a fiesta econetic or the polo bluemotion, much nicer cars, pretty much the same fuel economy and also emissions. AND most importantly.....so much cheaper.
@kotegashi you don't need to make stuff up. priuses suck, they look like shit, perform the same, etc. the insight is better than those shit: cheaper price, similar gas mileage, sporty handling, etc
Then why do all car magazines and car programs rate the prius better then the Insight. Besides they look pritty similar to eachother. And for the record I don't make stuff up.
@kotegashi they do look the same, and how do i know you are not lying now when you said you dont make stuff up. the prius has a bunch of damn problems wiht it, the insight doesn't, the insight is sportier, more comfortable, and is less futuristic than the shit prius
if he says the gas cost $148 How come he pushed the veichle home and made it a new ortament but idk cause hes my favorite comidean and so is dane cook
Why? I've got one as a company car, only 14% income tax, compared to 20 or 25% on regular cars. I'm saving money! And if I would own one privately, I would save money because it has great mileage.
because 90% of the people who own priuses are all about saving the environment when actually buying a used car is less harmful to earth than making a single battery in a prius or an insight. Also, I love how I get passed on the highway by a prius when I myself am going 80 mph. Its less fuel eficient than a BMW when you drive hard.
My biggest problem with it though is the fact that diesel volkswagens are more fuel efficient and much more fun to drive. I have no idea why you would drive a prius.
Have you ever driven one? I've driven in many cars and I have to say that driving a prius is a more relaxing experience then driving anyother car. And comparing a diesel with to a regular feul car is like comparing appels and oranges. And it's not just about the fuel efficiency, it is also about the CO2 per kilometer/mile (the real polution), on that matter the prius is doing better then some diesels.
no but I have the guts to say I have been a passenger in one. The engine sound while accelerating sounds like a crying baby. (I got that from a review about honda insight but I believe it applies to 2006 Prius' as well). I'm glad you like the car but I still don't see how prius can be chosen over a diesel BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, or Audi. 90% of car makers in Europe have diesel versions of their cars and don't you want the luxury of a BMW while attaining 50+ MPG? I know I would love it.
I understand your arguments. Unfortunately diesel cars get a (incorrect) negative attitude from drivers. They are loud, don't have a power to make speed quickly etc. And the development of diesel is starting to drop behind on the regular feuls. Perhaps cars like the prius and its popularity will push carmakers into more developments. I myself don't care about the luxury of the BMW, a prius was a gigantic step up for me.
For everyday use, the Prius is the best car out there. Don't look towards it for performance....look towards it for reliability, fuel economy and a cheap way to get to work and back.
@loweredtalon And where do I rant about that? Oh yeah, one video, how awful of me! Based on 25K kilometers a year, 80% city/20% highway driving and 95 cents per liter of petrol (which is what it costs in my area), the Prius is about $1100/year in petrol costs versus the Corolla which is about $2000/year.
The Prius is about 12.5K higher MSRP for me here in Canada than the Corolla, which means about 14 YEARS of 25000 kilometers every year to just OFFSET the extra cost!
97% of prius sold are still on the road today they are not driven hard if you want to save fuel you will accelerate gradually and avoid braking situations. The cars can go faster but improper acceleration defeats the purpose of owning the car. One of the benefits of responsible driving is the car has far better than average longevity.

Well now, It seems that you guys get pretty up and arms over cars, I just bought a Yaris the other day, and contemplating the Prius 2, now, I love the shit out of my yaris, and loved the Prius 2 when I test drove it. I've owned from a Dodge Ram 1500, to a BMW 325i, I love the mpg, yeah there might be better options, but I like the Prius, and frankly if you think something else is better, more power to ya, but I'm not going to argue with a bunch of idiots trying to tell ME what car to get.
zekel123 9 months ago
true fact- small diesel cars get about 20-30 more miles per gallon than the prius. Also, the production of a prius's battery is extremely harmful to the earth. We keep making these excuse products so that we can feel less guilty about being such big consumers. If you really want to save the planet, just buy less stuff.
And if you really want to get good gas milage, get a VW Golf diesel or another small diesel car. they get about 70 miles a gallon on the HIGHWAY (a prius only gets about 40)
uniteagainsthumanity 9 months ago
I own a Prius - still found it funny - terrific car - envy is such a terrible thing!
ChuffChuffWoo 9 months ago
@ChuffChuffWoo No one envies people with priuses, it's a massively hated car by car specialists and *true* green eco people. Clueless idiots go ahead and buy it and say their "green." AKA celebrites....
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 As I said, prius envey is such a terrible thing... Prius and Lexus hybrid owners are the most satisfied of all car owners according to market research.
ChuffChuffWoo 7 months ago
@ChuffChuffWoo That's cause the media say hybrids are green, I'm pretty sure anyone with a brain would prefer a Ferrari, Mercedes, or a BMW over your overhyped garbage. I envy owners with good cars, not some car every moron has. People's satisfaction is like the plasebo effect, say it's green people will think it's green. In fact making a Prius gives more environmental damage in the long run than let's say, a Chevy Petrol. You want economic value? Buy a VW.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 VW - crampt diesel stick shift econobox - YUK! Happiness is a 1969 Dodge Charger to play with, and a Prius for smooth, quiet, comfy efficient everday driving : ))
ChuffChuffWoo 7 months ago
@ChuffChuffWoo Obviously you aren't a real car fan.......
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 In the same way that those who clung on to horses would accuse Ford Model 'T' owners of not being real horse and buggy fans. Prius is the start of a new way of thinking, everything else is so last century. Prius - you either get it or you don't.
ChuffChuffWoo 7 months ago
@ChuffChuffWoo The Prius is still a car, with a battery, yet it's just more shit than a normal car. Batteries? Veeryyy futuristic....not. Honda Clarity is much more efficient, why? HYDROGEN. Prius - You buy it you're a moron.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 The oil companies dont want us to have battery cars, they want to sell us hydrogen from their forcourts, so they are trying very hard to position the Prius in the minds of the people as a bad idea - and alas it appears in your case, they've suceeded! The Clarity is a Hybrid powered by Hydrogen-it wvwn has a battery in it to store energy recovered from braking.
ChuffChuffWoo 7 months ago
@ChuffChuffWoo Yet we still don't care, this planet's going down with or without the oil. Wanna know how a Prius battery is made? Sulfur mining in Canada, ooh bad for the Earth. Shipped overseas to Europe, ooh pollution! Then adds more and more chemicals and shipped from A to B until it reaches Japan. It does WAY more damage in the long run, and it's worldwide, too! Face it, look at every comment here that's actually thumbed up, meaning people agree. Prius = Garbage.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 All cars these days are made from meterials mined all over the planet, Prius is no different, Toyota have the most advanced battery recycling system ever invented. there is more nickle in an SUV then a Prius as it's used in the rustproofing treatment and chrome! Toyota have stolen a huge lead over the likes of GM, and no amount of misleading Prius propogander will change thet.
ChuffChuffWoo 7 months ago
@ChuffChuffWoo You must really have some balls to keep on blaming the heat on other cars and praising Toyota. The thing I like about Toyotas are that they are very reliable cars. The thing is, whenever most people with common sense see a Prius come down the block, they think," Wow, trying REAL hard to act 'eco'..." Any REAL eco-mentalist would tell you that the Prius is utter garbage compared to other cars. The media, unfortunately, has actually fooled you, the Prius makes you look like a cock.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@ChuffChuffWoo And don't come asking me about stupid eco stuff because to me that is nonsense. I actually asked people that know what they are actually talking about saying the Prius is not the best hybrid to get to be environmentally friendly, they say Honda, VW, or even taking a bus or riding a bicycle is more efficient and eco-friendly than a Prius. Sorry mate, look at megadriver6's comment, you are nothing but a...wannabe.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 Rubbish. You just carry on driving your gas guzzlers and paying my taxes on your fuel duty whilst I glide around in a car that's smoother then a Rolls Royce at a fraction of the cost - Love my Prius!
ChuffChuffWoo 7 months ago
Your car is junk
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 So you're saying that Honda makes better hybrids? Really, please tell me why Honda has had more replacment battery packs on their Insight, then ALL of the Toyota Hybrids put together. Or tell me why Honda's IMA has to run the engine even if just the AC is on...ya that's very eco friendly and efficient. Seeing that you're 14, I don't think you can call any car junk, simply because you can't even drive one.
smokedame 7 months ago
@smokedame Do you really think people would post their real age on YouTube? And going to my channel to find something to inuslt me with is just pathetic. Looking at your comment, I can tell you're an idiot. So tell me, did the Prius win green car awards from 06-11? No, the Chevrolet Ford Fusion Hybrid did, so did Honda with the FCX Clarity, VW Polo Bluemotion and Jetta TDI, and most of them cost less than a Prius. You simply cannot say it was won by popularity.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 Only idiot in this convo is yourself. Why else come back with all the names at people? And what is a Chevrolet Ford Fusion Hybrid? You do know that Ford paid Toyota for parts of their hybrid system. And don't start comparing a tiny polo to a Prius. None of the cars you mention cost less then a Prius. Why would the Prius win from 06-11? It's the same basic car from 04+, which ofcourse DID win awards.
smokedame 7 months ago
@smokedame Go on then, you silly Prius elitist. People like you are the reason why people HATE the prius. Not to mention the 65mpg bull that Toyota keeps on saying. Maybe once in a month it will do that. But the only way a modern hybrid can do better than a modern diesel is on cities. But that's where hybrids do best, stopping. Take that thing out on a highway which is almost guaranteed you'll have to do, BOOM, 40-50 mpg. Not to mention it's tiny fuel tank. And that tiny polo does more mpg.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 Ofcourse that tiny polo does more, because it's TINY. Put the HSD system in a Yaris and it'll blow that polo away. Mine is 80% hwy driven and I always get 63mpg with at least 2 people in the car. Your logic makes no sense on hwy vs city. Put a tdi in the city which you're guaranteed to drive in, or even on the hwy be stuck in stop and go, and the Prius (once again) blows a tdi away. There's a reason vw is trying to make a hybrid...it's just full of electrical demons right now.
smokedame 7 months ago
@smokedame And to your highway mpg comment, multiple tests show that BMW diesels get at least 5-10 mpg better on a highway. How to make a Prius better: More torque to pull that box on a highway without using too much power, better styling, better handling, smaller dashboard, lighter body = uses less power to use less gas. AND you need to seriously quit defending your car, people won't like it because YOU say so, and I'm not gonna like it anytime soon. I'll leave ya alone to reply or shut up.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@azmichael34 the calculations your seeing are in a Euro gallon, which is bigger then the american gallon, hence why you think the diesels are getting 5-10 mpg more. Use the same unit of measurement for both vehicles. I need to quit defending the Prius? The Prius does a great job of that all on it's own, I don't need to defend it, remember, you're the one that started arguing with me, and on a comment over a year old. You're not going to like it anytime soon, and I won't like any euro diesels
smokedame 7 months ago
@smokedame anytime soon either. You can defend the euro diesels all you want, but I will never buy one.
smokedame 7 months ago

You're just upset because hybirds are better then diesels and you probably pissed your money into a tdi....and you probably have nothing but problems with it like most people. Reply to this, and I'll know I'm right.

@smokedame Have you ever looked up the manufacturing costs and economical impact of making the parts for a Prius? Namely, the massive batteries.
Natesmodelrailroad 3 months ago
@Natesmodelrailroad Yes, and clearly you haven't.........
smokedame 2 months ago
@smokedame They don't use any recycled parts in it...mainly because they can't.
The Lithium-Ion batteries are what cost the most to make, especially on the environment. Go look up "How It's Made: Lithium Batteries", then tell me that doesn't take a shit-ton of energy to make.
Natesmodelrailroad 2 months ago

Natesmodelrailroad 1 month ago
@Natesmodelrailroad Simple, they don't have Lithium batteries in them.
smokedame 1 month ago
@smokedame That one was my mistake, I will admit. But, those batteries are very expensive to make. In fact, after a bit of searching, I did find out that the Prius outdoes the Hummer in Environmental damage. I'd link ya, but Youtube doesn't allow links in comments.
Natesmodelrailroad 1 month ago
@Natesmodelrailroad and if you did more research, you'd find out that that was done by a marketing research company a LONG time ago, and has been debunked MANY times. For starters, they claim the Prius can only last 100,000 miles vs a hummer at 300,000 miles. And everyone knows no gm product is going to last that long without sinking lots of money into it. 200,000 miles on my Prius, with nothing more then oil changes done to it. Still on original brakes even.
smokedame 1 month ago
@Natesmodelrailroad I have to tell you that what you've read is old news. That was proven very flawed and isn't true. I could send you many links to back up the proof as well, but like you said, youtube won't let you. Do some more research and you'll see for yourself. Also, the battery IS recycled, 100%. Toyota has been doing that since the Rav4EV which was launched back in the mid 90s. Soooo many rumors about the hybrid technology......

People make fun of you Prius owners, journalists, bloggers, editors, publishers, even television and media. SMUG, you arrogant douche.
azmichael34 7 months ago
@loweredtalon Besides, I saw your comment, you keep on replying to me, you just contradicted yourself on that last comment.

The Volkswagen Jetta clean diesel costs about 24.5K base MSRP and does 30/42 mpg versus an I4 Toyota Camry which costs about the same but does only 22/30 AND the Camry emits MORE CO2
alexkvaskov 2 years ago
If you really want a hybrid, get a Honda Insight - it is about 3K base MSRP less than the Prius, and when compared using the same method to the Civic saloon, it takes 12.6 years to offset the extra cost. Still utterly ridiculous and idiotic - not to mention hideous as well! - hybrids are a gayass waste of money. If you want to save money on petrol costs, get one of VW's new clean diesels, which are much smoother, quieter and emit 500 times less sulfur than typical diesels of 30 years ago
alexkvaskov 2 years ago
And as we all know, the Prius's batteries are shit after about 160K kilometers, whereas 14 years and 25,000 every year is a massive 354,000 kilometers. Plus the Prius is ugly as shit, and does MORE environmental damage in the long run than a large V6 saloon (a la Toyota Avalon) because of the very dirty manufacturing process involved in producing the batteries. Prius = EPIC FAIL
alexkvaskov 2 years ago
oh ya...Prius' batteries are shit after 160,000kms? Where did you read that?
You are just another typical youtube person who hears something on the internet and believes it. The warranty on the battery is 160,000kms. Based on what your saying anything past it's warranty needs to be replaced.
You know nothing of what you are talking about. Only epic fail is you.
And comparing a Corolla to a Prius? Is something the matter with you? Why would you compare a much smaller car to the Prius.
loweredtalon 2 years ago
Does more environmental damage then good? Please, I'd LOVE to hear that one. And don't start quoting Clarkson, or some other Saturday morning cartoon show.
VW, please, your kidding right? Clean diesel? Should be CLEANER diesel, cuz no diesel is clean...no such thing.
And once again, you go quoting a smaller car then the Prius. jetta isn't even close to a Prius, and if you want to talk looks, the jetta is ugly.
I'll keep my 1000km/tank Prius that costs $30 to fill thanks.
loweredtalon 2 years ago 3
Dumbass, do you have eyes? The Prius and Corolla are about the same size, the Corolla is a little smaller. Did you know that modern diesels emit 500 times less sulfur than they did in the 70s?
alexkvaskov 2 years ago
@alexkvaskov
about the same size? Looks like you're the dumbass.
Prius is a mid sized car. Same as a Camry, Accord, Legacy, 6 etc.
The Corolla is alot smaller, not a little. It's a compact car.
Sounds like someone needs to learn more about cars then to read something off the internet and then try to pull off like they're smart.
ALL cars emit a lot less today then in the 70s...how is that relevant to this conversation?
loweredtalon 2 years ago 3
I have SAT in both Prius and Corolla and believe me, fucker, they are similar
I want to say that current diesels are a much better choice if you want an efficient vehicle, plus the Prius is way overpriced, is fucking ugly and just sucks ass overall
alexkvaskov 2 years ago
@alexkvaskov
Uh oh....guess I've hit a sore spot now.
I've owned a Corolla (2006) and now a 2010 and 2007 Prius'. Just because you've sat in one doesn't make it a bigger car.
Current diesels aren't a better choice, just because they are better then previous diesels doesn't make them better then current hybrid's.
Prius still gets better mpg AND less emissions. Plus the fact that were I live, ALL diesels are still prone to emission testing where hybrids are not.
loweredtalon 2 years ago 3
Diesel engines run much more efficiently than gas engines, in some cases they filter the air. Hybrids are not as good as diesels and thats a fact.
FordNissanChevy 2 years ago
Please tell me you aren't that dumb.
loweredtalon 2 years ago
Diesel engines burn fuel more efficiently than gas engines, when you compare them, a diesel produces fewer harmful emissions and gets better mpg. The only 'dirty' diesel was the 2-stroke diesels. And dont call me dumb, i know what I'm talking about.
FordNissanChevy 2 years ago

@smokedame People watch Top Gear because it is funny and has very entertaining challenges. And see supercars and hilarious reviews that we all know are biased. Yes, I know your comment is a year old but it really just annoyed me...

@azmichael34 So you agree with me, it's saturday morning cartoons. THANKS!

Prius is an atrocious car, My friend has the new one. I'd much rather have a fiesta econetic or the polo bluemotion, much nicer cars, pretty much the same fuel economy and also emissions. AND most importantly.....so much cheaper.
A prius is a fashion statement at best.
plusgood15 2 years ago
Prius owners, are people that have never had a car before. Or a sex life, or a steamy moment, or a girlfriend, and to be honest, never will ;)
MrGazdalf 2 years ago
Well, this comment proves you are absolutely clueless.
I've had all and still drive a prius.

I'm proud to say I get 10 mpg in the city. Oh and my truck isn't but 3 years old.
rockstate45 2 years ago
@kotegashi you don't need to make stuff up. priuses suck, they look like shit, perform the same, etc. the insight is better than those shit: cheaper price, similar gas mileage, sporty handling, etc
saboobuu 1 year ago
@saboobuu:
Then why do all car magazines and car programs rate the prius better then the Insight. Besides they look pritty similar to eachother. And for the record I don't make stuff up.
kotegashi 1 year ago
@kotegashi they do look the same, and how do i know you are not lying now when you said you dont make stuff up. the prius has a bunch of damn problems wiht it, the insight doesn't, the insight is sportier, more comfortable, and is less futuristic than the shit prius
saboobuu 1 year ago
@saboobuu Come to Holland and put me on a polygraph test, I'll proof I'm not lying.

its not really a blue prius, its a buuue prius, you know, all shparcley!
inugirl102 2 years ago
anyone who buys a prius or any other car like that is either 100% ignorant or very very smug.
USGiorgi 2 years ago
Why? I've got one as a company car, only 14% income tax, compared to 20 or 25% on regular cars. I'm saving money! And if I would own one privately, I would save money because it has great mileage.
kotegashi 2 years ago
because 90% of the people who own priuses are all about saving the environment when actually buying a used car is less harmful to earth than making a single battery in a prius or an insight.
USGiorgi 2 years ago 2
Have you ever driven one? I've driven in many cars and I have to say that driving a prius is a more relaxing experience then driving anyother car. And comparing a diesel with to a regular feul car is like comparing appels and oranges. And it's not just about the fuel efficiency, it is also about the CO2 per kilometer/mile (the real polution), on that matter the prius is doing better then some diesels.
kotegashi 2 years ago
no but I have the guts to say I have been a passenger in one.
USGiorgi 2 years ago
I understand your arguments. Unfortunately diesel cars get a (incorrect) negative attitude from drivers. They are loud, don't have a power to make speed quickly etc. And the development of diesel is starting to drop behind on the regular feuls. Perhaps cars like the prius and its popularity will push carmakers into more developments. I myself don't care about the luxury of the BMW, a prius was a gigantic step up for me.
kotegashi 2 years ago
slow and loud??? have you ever driven any newer diesels?
2000jeepsahara 2 years ago
@kotegashi so what the hell did you have before?! a bike??
no offense but "prii" are SHIT
alexkvaskov 2 years ago
Perhaps I should ask you if you've ever driven one. Everyone who has been in my prius only are excited about it. They all love it.
kotegashi 2 years ago
@kotegashi
Couldn't agree with you more.
Everyone who's been in mine LOVE it!
For everyday use, the Prius is the best car out there. Don't look towards it for performance....look towards it for reliability, fuel economy and a cheap way to get to work and back.

@alexkvaskov this coming from a 22 year old who rants about how great honda is...
Prius is the best car out there for everyday use.
loweredtalon 2 years ago
@loweredtalon And where do I rant about that? Oh yeah, one video, how awful of me! Based on 25K kilometers a year, 80% city/20% highway driving and 95 cents per liter of petrol (which is what it costs in my area), the Prius is about $1100/year in petrol costs versus the Corolla which is about $2000/year.
The Prius is about 12.5K higher MSRP for me here in Canada than the Corolla, which means about 14 YEARS of 25000 kilometers every year to just OFFSET the extra cost!
alexkvaskov 2 years ago
its relaxing because you can only go 10km per hour
matt1545 2 years ago
you are correct they are very boring to drive.
