Its just another country in the world that just happens to have a lot of people and resources. Its also very hard to keep a country occupied for a long period of time. Takes a lot of effort on part of the military. Yeah Britain is still a great power, correct. But its open door immigration policy isn't a good thing and will take it down eventually.

It is actually hilarious because Napoleon didn't even make war on Britain it was the other way around. They gave gold to the other powers to attack Napoleon. Napoleon lost the war and Britain claimed all the glory even though they did nothing.

The US is not a democracy. The United States is a Fedral Constitutional Republic. Which means we have a strong central government bound to a constitutional document headed by elected officials who are supposed to represent the people in said government. Most people in our country are ignorant to this or just lazy (fedral constitutional republic is a mouthful)so they just say democracy. People in th UK do the same thing. They're technically a Parlimentary Constitutional Monarchy (mouthful).

It is actually hilarious because Napoleon didn't even make war on Britain it was the other way around. They gave gold to the other powers to attack Napoleon. Napoleon lost the war and Britain claimed all the glory even though they did nothing.

Heh, I know plenty about other lands, but there's not much to actually know about Switzerland. To be honest I doubt many people outside of Switzerland are keyed up on its history given how minor a state it is. It would be a waste of time.

I mean think of the Dunkirk British retreat and D-day when the US lost three times more troops than the British protecting Europe. The Opium Wars caused by the "Great" British. The French and Dutch stopped dealing opium to China when the Chinese government banned it as it was destroying so many lives causing such misery. The "great" British however continued drug dealing and even sent many's the young British man to die a nasty death during the Opium Wars in the name of profit but not for the British public mind you. I'm not denying that Britain has done some bad stuff over the years - all countries that have had power have. But then it's colonisation was no way near as opressive as many European nations, and it's also brought the world a lot of good things such as medical, intellectual and technological advances. It may have done more bad than a lot of places, but it's also done a whole lot more good.
For instance, UK gives the most foreign aid out of any other country atm. Look it up.

Heh, 'standard of living' is an extremely subjective value. From what i've heard despite Switzerland's wealth it's an incredibly dull place to live and extremely repressive social conformity. This would explain the fact that Switzerland has such high rates of suicide.

See there you go again, denying the historical embarressment of your own country whilst emphasising that of Britain. As I openly admit, Britain did act badly during the colonial era. But it treated colonies a lot better than the Spanish, Germans or French did. Given the cultural context and how distant that history it, it's not something to be too ashamed of, not like capitulating to Hitler so recently.

Great Britain DID provide Opium to China at a time when there was only one import allowed in the country. Given that was the only market allowed, is it surprising to anyone that a mercantile nation decided to provide it?

Like I said earlier, and perhaps I need to stress further. Why did Britain provide opium? It certainly wasn't out of evil nature, it was just a market that hadn't been tapped yet, in fact, the ONLY market that China allowed the British to trade in. It was simple, bloodless capitalism.

The US is not a democracy. The United States is a Fedral Constitutional Republic. Which means we have a strong central government bound to a constitutional document headed by elected officials who are supposed to represent the people in said government. Most people in our country are ignorant to this or just lazy (fedral constitutional republic is a mouthful)so they just say democracy. People in th UK do the same thing. They're technically a Parlimentary Constitutional Monarchy (mouthful).

I think no matter what your perspective, were better together than divided, though disagreement isn't bad, we need to learn from each other. Just like in WWII, Americans like to be isolationist. Like now, many feel al Qaeda and those in the middle east won't affect them. We have a short attention span, and as long as it doesn't affect us, were not worried.
