  • not hating but I find it funny how the way you pronounce your last name is "mcfail". I know it's spelled differently but I still find it funny.

  • What's the difference between this one & the s200 which costs $650.00, & the s100 costs $999.00+

    Thanks

  • @noobsyb0t The s200 is an improve version (i think) but i rather buy the s-100 USED for 450$

  • oh sry i wrote that. i didn't see the bubble xd

  • xd u said "u get the quality of a consumer camera in a prosumer camera"? xd! i think u meant the other way around. well atleast i hope thats what u meant!!

  • TWO EVERY ONE OUTTHERE .QUESTIONS answered

to inport flies .plug camera to power then USB OPEN FILES FIND WHAT IS CALLED STREAM SIMPLY . drag and drop on to desk top then open files and sort your different shots into new folders with each one named. this is a great camera I spent months in the outback of AUSTRALIA filming I ran every thing of my landrover batterie with a converta to run a laptop and the camera every night . 3 hours would stream into my laptop in 30 minutes .

  • That was certainly not a MCFAIL

  • You can also use an optional wide angle converter lens, the WD-H58. It is a 0.7x and is specifically designed for use with Canon's HF S100 and HF S10 camcorders. The lens is $265 from bhphotovideo. It's not inexpensive, however, the quality is great and worth it for shooting landscapes and architectural shots along with groups. This lens is also compatible with any camcorder that has a 58mm filter diameter. Hope this helps.

  • To: oidoy - the Canon HF S100 does have an outstanding 10x optical zoom lens. It is also equipped with a digital tele-converter, so when recording video, you can enlarge the center of the screen to achieve digitally the same effect of using a tele-converter lens, without affecting video quality. You can also attach the optional TL-H58 Tele-converter lens and use it in conjunction with the digital tele-converter function to increase the effect.

  • i hate this camera sooo much its next to impossible to get the god damned fucking videos on ur COMPUTER

  • @dragonoforange Buy a Mac

  • it must suck for this guy when he fails at something

  • HAHAHA MACPHAIL

  • Anyone know what file it outputs?

  • GL2/XM2 is 3CCD not 1 CMOS.

  • I have a question: I just bought a Canon HF R11 HD camcorder. I installed the pixela software. I did some test vids and imported them to my computer. Once I put them into Pixela the videos were very choppy. I'm new to this HD thing. How to I work on not making videos choppy when I import them?

  • @chicagomarchingbands you need high speed sd card

  • how much does it cost?

  • does this work with mac, meaning, on an apple computer will i be able to upload the video footage to iphoto or edit in imovie

  • Two questions, please:

    1) Does the camera built-in mic(s) pick-up the noise(s) of the lens zooming in and out, or any other mechanical / electrical noise the camera makes during operation?

    2) How is the factory battery life?

    Thank you!

  • does it have night vision like could i use it for ghost hunting at night?

  • dose the Canon VIXIA HF S100 Camcorder come with a USP computer connection cable

  • Great Review! How's the battery life?

  • Does you or anyone know, WHERE i can buy a microphone, that fits wirt this camera!? - link please!! - THAT WOULD BE SO HELPFULL! THNAKS :)

  • @TheZookeepersBoy1 Yes. I suggest you look at the Rhode Videomic. It is a standard hotshoe mount so the camcorder will accept any hotshoe microphone or external light e.t.c.

  • Hi can you please let me know if i can put a new fisheye lens on this and what size would the lens be ?

  • thanx!!!

  • I def want to get this

  • Breath man seriously, your taking my breath i cant watch this

  • In every review for a camcorder or camera they should start out with price

  • Can this camera be used as part of a 2 or 3 multi-camera setup where all cameras are sending their video to an HD switcher for live recording. My church is looking to upgrade their camera system but has a limited budget. I specified a system using a GL2, but someone came to me with the idea to use this Vixia camera. All the difference are not obvious from what I've read. Help would be great. Thanks

  • What is this video abooot?

  • @FunkyFresh48 A camera dumbass.

  • Nice work mister u maked me learn something today ;D

  • I recently purchased this video camera. It is my first and I'm confused. How do I view these video's on my computer? I cannot figure it out?!!! Help!

    Thank you

  • traduz ai o q ele falou para mim rsrs

  • Great review sir! I was wondering can you put a fisheye on that camera? if so what size? thanks you!

  • nice review!

  • can I use this to make short horror or comedy films?

  • A word of warning: if you buy this camcorder you better know what you're doing with HD video files. I bought this camcorder and it doesn't work. The video format is H.264 and WMP and Youtube doesn't support that kind of file. I'm told you must compress the video files to MPEG in order to view / play them. And it's up to YOU to find software that does that. I spent a lot of $ for this camcorder and thus far I'm very unhappy with it! It ain't no plug and play that's for sure!

  • @pahogger lol.

  • That is definitley not prosumer..

  • gl2 has 3ccd lol not cmos...but maybe you just meant you get the same quality out of one cmos...as 3 ccd....idk

  • would your recomend it for begginig filmakers???? would you get this one over the HV40???does this camera have 24p

  • It has 50i and 25p. So many manual functions! I love my new Canon HF S100.. only thing i hate is that you have to convert all videos from MTS to mpeg or simular to be able to watch the video without lag :P

  • would your recomend it for begginig filmakers????

  • Thorough review. I purchased it to replace the HF200 and am pretty impressed. Great high quality video and semi-pro feel.

  • Are people spending this kind of money to post video's to you tube? or to hook up to there tv (HDMI) and view it then archiving the SDHC card to go buy another. By the way, you have the best last name ever XD

  • funny Your the reason why I bought this camera, I wish you would have said something about the software that come with it...its sucks, great cam bad software

  • does it have a hotshoe ? to attach lights and stuff ?

  • is the legira better ??

  • I have one quiestion... amm do you know how Tecnology use this Camera for the option of 24p frame rate... because I dont know if there's 24 Direct or Real or it use the Pulldown tecnology....

  • Great review.

  • It's not a 1.26 inch chip.

    It's a 1/2.6 chip. Not the same..

  • 24 Mbps its not the same as 24 MB/sec. The first one is in Megabits, the second in MegaBytes.

    1 Byte = 8 bits.

So 24 Mbps = 3 MB/sec. You should be ok with a Class 4 SDHC card in theory.

    [DATA FROM WIKIPEDIA] * Class 2: 16 MBit/s (2 MByte/s) * Class 4: 32 MBit/s (4 MByte/s) * Class 6: 48 MBit/s (6 MByte/s)

I hope that helps, excuse my english -__-

    BTW nice review ;)

  • looks great.. u said 1080i isnt it 1080p?

  • i is "interlaced", p is "progressive". Pretty much everywhere but north america and japan uses i instead of p as the standard format.

  • @Selsiuss2 dont talk shit thats wrong america and japan broadcast 60 everywhere else 50i and only films record and play at 24p! bitch!

  • hey, ive been looking at this camera for a while now because my sony dcr-sr42 wont sync with my imovie and i cant upload any videos or any audio. would you happen to know if canons have a good relationship with imovie? thanks alot, i appreciate it.

  • I have it, and I've had no problems with it importing the videos straight out of the sd card into iMovie. It's a great camera for the price, though the image stabilizer could be improved a bit (I have shaky hands). Hope this helps.

  • thanks! this definitely helped

  • EXO Review

  • no offense i just wanted to laugh with you. sorry macphail=mcFAIL. sorry man you are an awesome dude.

  • 1 small correction though, the HF-S10 has 32 Gb of internal memory, not 16 Gb.

  • nice to see someone who knows what he is talking about.

  • i have a biggg question. I just bought this camera and am using imagemixer3 which is the supplied software. when i import the video file to imagemixer it is at 1920by1080. when i export it to the computer it changes to 720by480. how do i export it to my computer as 1080?? plz help! thanks

  • @EclipseProductions89 if it come in .m2ts files, go into the camera folder when its plugged in and drag and drop the files into movie maker. then choose publish as 1080p video.

(this only works on windows movie maker for vista)

    hope that helps!

  • ok I will try that. Other than that do you think it could just be my computer specs not allowing it to become an HD file? I am buying a new computer soon lol

  • @EclipseProductions89 try sony vegas you will be much more impressed and you will be able to do what you want with it, and ifyour going to shell out 700 ish for this camera then sony vegas is a must have :)

  • I have sony vegas, adobe premiere, and pinnacle studio 14. pinnacle is my fav lol

  • I've noticed that some of the "free" software that comes with hd cameras tend to only let you see what it looks like in hd in the program but not actually export it. They usually have a "plus" or "premium" version of the program that costs money to export in HD. Honestly, even those are never as good as Vegas, Premier, or finalcut, so depending on your computer, you might want to attain one of these editing softwares. They all do HD properly :)

  • Just got this camera. Thanks for the review. Can't wait to use it!

  • this reveiw was a macPHAIL xD im sorry i just had to say it :P

  • Great review....thank you very much.... all very clear and I appreciate you disagreeing with other reviewers.... you cause me to order one.... so I wanted to say....thank you .

  • Where you buy it from and how much?, because I'm thinking of getting one for my Media work is it worth spending alot or go for a cheaper cam?

  • GREAT review :) thanks!

  • Isn't the 1.5x teleconverter sold seperately?

  • how do u edit the avchd files??? i can only view but cant edit it in adobe premiere cs3 :(

is there any free converter out there to convert the files into avi or some editable format??

    thanks!

  • Thanks for the great review. I was thinking of buying one of these. Now I'm sure I will!

  • I'm looking to buy the Canon Battery Pack BP-827 (2670mAH). Canon website says Times vary depending on camcorder. Could you please tell me for how long I could use the HF S100 on a single charge of this battery?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Wayne, thanks for the Great Review.

    I just got a Vixia HF S100.

Canon gives the following specifications for the HF S100's highest quality recording formats:

    FXP - 17 Mbps

    MXP - 24 Mbps

If I need to use these formats, does it mean that I have to get an SDHC card that has a minimum write speed of 24 Mbps? If so, could you please recommend a reliable brand, model. So far the highest speed I've come across is Kingston's SD6/32GB-U, a Class 6 card with 20MB/Sec. 133x Write.

    Thanks.

  • I've used any Class 6 card and it's worked fine. Kingston makes a nice one and SanDisk has a VideoHD card that's very nice as well.

  • Thanks for the quick response.

If, as specified for the MXP mode, the camera is attempting to write at 24Mbps, but the SDHC card can write at, say, only 15Mbps, won't some frames be lost? Wouldn't we be losing some of the picture quality captured by the camera?

  • @wmacphail why all hd camcorders have a poor optical zoom?

  • @rreettrroo

    1MegaByte (MB) = 8 MegaBits (Mb)

A class 4 card will work fine at MXP Mode. I use the Sandisk Ultra 2

  • Remember your bits and bytes are different. 1 byte = 8 bits, so 24Mb/s = 3MB/s. Therefore a 20MB/s card would be plenty, or any card over 3MB/s.

  • the HDMI input you speak of, is it a normal HDMI cable input?

  • I'm in a quandary. How do I upload my video files to my imac? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • in the magnifying glass in the top right hand corner of the screen type image capture

  • does this have a mic input plz reply fast

  • yes

  • Excellent analysis & presentation. Appreciate it! I am looking for an excellent camcorder for use with iMovie09.

  • hey. nice review. I'd like to know what you think of the sony hdr cx500v compared to this camcorder.

  • Great Review! Thanks :)

  • What editing software are you able to edit the AVCHD files? I have pinnacle ver 11. How slow is your edit import times? I have read that the included Codecsoftware from Canon is useless. Is this the case?

  • I use Final Cut Express and iMovie 09 on the Mac. Haven't used the Canon software but generally camera-supplied software isn't worth much.

  • Thanks Wayne, Great review, told me loads, now i think i want one, gotta sell my wee panny sd10 now.

  • is there any way of creating a slow motion video on this camera without loosing quality?

  • As far as i know this camera does not have a slow motion setting this means u will have to edit it in a program like Sony vegas or windows movie maker slowing it down won make it lose any quality

  • Thanks, Wayne. That was helpful.

Do you think this camcorder is suitable for filming sports (especially field hockey)?

  • Yes, should work fine at 60fps

  • @wmacphail what about skateboarding

  • Tell me ,please, where i can find pc driver for vixia hf s100? (sorry for my english)

  • I have this rig:

    Motherboard: Asus P5Q Deluxe

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550

    RAM: Corsair TWIN2X 6400C4DHX DDR2, 4096MB

    GPU: HIS Radeon HD 4870X2 2GB GDDR5

    HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F1 500GB

How will editing in AVCHD be for me?

  • should be fine

  • you would benifit from a quad core, everything else fine.

  • Thanks Wayne, SOLD i'm ordering one tomorrow. Best review i've seen so far.

  • Thanks for watching. I'm sure you'll be very pleased. Keep in mind that the AVCHD format requires a fair bit of editing horsepower. What system will you be editing on?

  • @wmacphail i have a mac, will it be enough ? macbook pro 13" ? please reply

  • The Canon HF S10 has 32GB internal Flash Memory, NOT 16GB as Wayne says in this video.

  • Thanks Wayne, that really was very helpful. You have a naturally reassuring screen presence. IMHO, Canon should hire you to present their products. Again, thanks.

  • Great review!, how many hours can you shoot on a 16Gb card in the best setting?

  • Thanks Phil

  • Does anyone know, what this camera's battery life is? Is it really only 60 minutes?

  • yup...around there...i heard it was less..

  • yeah, he is a really good speaker. i never heard him studder once.

  • im just starting to getting into filming, just wondering if this is a good camcorder for shooting bmx, snowbaord stuff like that and can you put a fish eye lens onto it?

  • this guy knows wtf is up. great review!

  • I need to get a fisheye for my HFS11(64gb version of hfs100 and hfs10) its a 58 mm can you recommend me anything? thanks

  • Yessssssss, thank you so much, that was the answer that i was looking for, the diferet btn s10 and s100... thanks

  • hello can u add the 85mm f1.4 lens to it or like 50mm f1.4 for dslr into this camcorder

  • You will need something called "DOF adapter". Try searching it on google.

  • best HD camera :)

  • hf s100 it shas 7mpix censor video , real HD its so clean image

  • I highly recommend this camera. I just picked one up after buying the HF 20... much better and I didn't think it could get better. Awesome

  • Wow !! Best review for this camera, thank you so much!

  • I agree, so good info, this guy is really good/pro

  • I just bought one of these yesterday and it was worth every cent. A few things he did not mention is that this camera shoots AVC HD, which is for BluRay. Also, this camera has tons of pro features such as f-stop and white balance settings. The best feature is the menu which remembers the sub-menu for quick access. There are so many features with this camera it is unbelievable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this for anyone interested in a pro camera who doesn't want to spend $4000.00 but wants great film.

  • Best review i've seen on this camera! Thx .

  • Thanks a million for the review. Really informative!

  • wait... so u can just screw a 35mm adapter on this baby?

  • thanks for the review

  • excellent review.

  • just watch it again and realise you've made a mistake. the hf s10 has 32gb instead of 16gb that you've mentioned. but that doesn't make big difference anyway.

  • What are the chances of being able to fit a 35mm adapter onto this thing so I can use my other lenses. I understand I can build or buy an adapter to fit onto an hv30 or an hv40, but can i do that with this?

  • I bought this camera a month ago and I'm loving it. It doesn't look or feel like a consumer camera and the footage is amazing. I highly recommend it.

  • I prefer the external only memory - if the camera breaks, or you drop it you can remove your card before sending it off for repair. With internal memory if the thing is irreparable you've lost your footage!

  • Great video review. I was just wondering how much video can be stored on a 8gb flash memory?

  • depends on quality i guess
