Olbermann didn't refute Glenn Beck directly because then you would have to assume that anything that spews forth from Glenn Beck's mouth has any sort of intellectual merit. Mocking is the only appropriate response.

Ok, other then making both of them look like fools, Olberman does nothing to show where Beck was wrong. And I don't know if Beck was saying that there was a bunch of commies around, seems he was just saying that there were symbols in the artwork.
Why would the President call a moronic entertainer who didn't even go to college? Beck is an ex-cokehead/alcoholic who rambles on national TV. He's not even a journalist. Why is Obama a coward for not talking to a complete imbecile. Does he have to personally address every idiot on the planet? Beck isn't qualified to interview the leader of the free world.
haaa.. you need another shit sandwich to go with that jug of kool-aid fucktard? sorry bout Bama's hand-picked communists getting pushed out the back door of the Whitehouse ... we've called the carpet cleaners to address the wear pattern on that high-traffic area.
That isn't even relevant to what I said.. You're a stereotypical Beck fan, not interested in reality. I didn't even say I liked Obama you fucking idiot. I said Beck is nobody.
Say assdrip, thats because nothing you had to say has any relevance.. If you can't answer the question is one thing, but refusing to alerts everyone to the pitiful fact that you agree with Comrade Obama (coward-in-chief) and HIDE from the truth as he does. Now eat shit mofo,, we'll see ya in the streets.
Beck tends to irritate me with his over the top antics and fear mongering at times but there just isn't much to make fun of when you're dealing with an intellectual lightweight like Olbermann.
I am applaud that Olbermann used a RACIAL SLUR at the beginning of this video. I will not repeat what he said but you can see for yourself.
Olbermann should not be so insensitive even if he was using it in a different context. I love Olbermann but he crossed the line here. He knew what he was saying.
That word can be used in a nonracial slur way. Just like there's a racial slur that also means a knick or chunk taken out of a wall. But I guess the true way to see if a word is offensive is by those who take offense to it, but I really don't think that's what Olbermann intended.
Did you happen to notice what happened to Van Jones??? I heard hes flipping burgers in Oakland. "Excuse me my brothers and sisters, let me expectorate you dilema by constipating your colostomy. Oh, and do you want fries with that?"
I wish those who could really see the day to day socialized medicine. I have been in it for 17 years. Things get lost, you don't get continuity of care and the accessiblity is terrible. One time both my boys had strep. One had the appt and one didn't. I brought them in and the doc looked at them and said they both have it but I can only treat one because the other doesn't have an appt. Sorry. We had to go to the ER and wait 4 hours for the same medicine. Public option is bad.
We are Americans living in Germany. We have lived here 5 years. I have had 2 children here. We have served in the military 18 years. We have the public health care from the govt as service members. You do not know your history. Before the Nazi's took over, Germans had a democracy (that is how Nazism was voted in). Despite democracy, they were recovering from WWI and the Great Depression (which affected here too)
Sounds like you have no experience about health care or living abroad and understanding life in other places. I am interested to see how many who reply here have actual experience living in other countries. Not just visiting - that doesn't count. We don't stay in US hospitals when we are sick here. We stay in German ones.
Well, thanks for not calling me a nasty name because we have a difference of opinion. But I do have some credence because I have a US public option now - it's called Tricare -it's the military public option.
Yes, Glenn Beck is very alarmed but those here in Nazi Germany kept quiet and let it develop. No one sounded the alarm. Are we saying it can't happen in our country? Well, that would just be naive - not liberal or conservative.
No, it can't happen in US. Don't you know anything about the history of the third Reich? Germany had no democratic tradition, in fact, democracy was forced on Germany, kinda like Bush tried to do in Iraq. US has a democratic tradition that dates back 300 years. And a very sound constitution, despite Cheney's attempts to undermine it. PS - you got your lies wrong. First you said "here in Germany" and then you referred to US as "our country". Make up your mind at to who you are and where you live.
Whether it is Republican, Democrat ;etc... absolute power corrupts absolutely. That is why America if adhering to the Constitution and Bill of Rights works so well. It doesn't allow too much power to be placed in someone's hands - hence our 3 branches, hence our freedom of bear arms. Historically, those in absolute power suppressed people not allowed them freedom. I just went to Budapest - boy, they had it bad for a long time.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm an independent and like to watch both sides to see the Truth. Clearly, Keith Olbermann doesn't have anything to say about what these pieces mean. He likes to make fun and belittle but doesn't give an explanation. I'm not buying it - thumbs up for Glenn Beck.
You missed the point entirely. He doesn't NEED to discuss what these pieces mean. Those art pieces have been in place and have been discussed for the last 80 years.
If people were really interested in discussing the meaning behind those art pieces they wouldn't go to Glenn Beck who himself admits he has little idea to what he is referring. Not only do those art pieces deserve an objective, academic perspective they also need context.
For example the large Rivera mural with Lenin that he is pointing out was DESTROYED by Rockefeller in haste, but you wouldn't get that from Glenn Beck because he is too uninformed and too busy propagandizing against 'socialist fascist progressivism' - whatever that means - to be bothered with an analysis made in good faith.
The point being made here in jest is that Beck is, without reservation, pushing delusional paranoia onto a national audience using the all-too-familiar techniques that we see time and time again throughout history in these types of political witchhunts: guilt by association, anti-intellectualism, deliberate manipulation of context, and on.
If you want a historical figure to compare Beck to, Joseph Mccarthy.
We can only hope he suffers a similar fate before more people are hurt by his madness.
I understand your point but I have to disagree about the paranoia delusional thing. I have lived in Europe for 5 years now (Deutschland) and those will tell you that when they tried to discuss what those in power were systematically doing they were also called paranoid. This is dangerous and why the Freedom of Press works so well to keep us free. The Founding Fathers of America knew what govts were capable of and therefore we have the bill of rights - to balance those in power.
Thank you for the thoughtful response. I agree fully, however I should have been more specific when talking about Beck's 'delusional paranoia.' I use this term to describe his behavior not because he is questioning government but because he is providing merit and voice to the unthinking reactionary response to the current healthcare reform process in the US.
He is essentially fear-mongering, giving credence to the idea that we should be unquestioningly be afraid of ideas like socialism or progressivism despite the fact that without socialist and progressive policies the United States would not be the country it is today.
In reality, Obama's policies closely mimic FDR's response to the Great Depression.
The idea that Obama is leading this country to become socialist is an extreme exaggeration proffered by political opponents and those who fear financial consequences to healthcare reform.
The reality is that Obama was and is a just left of center Democratic politician.
I agree that Obama's policies do mimic FDR's response but FDR's policies did not help us out of the Depression - WWII and "Rosie the Riveter" did. The public option has not worked well in any country. For instance, the Hungarians - they have a socialized healthcare system. The docs make about 400 euros a month and the care is rationed.
So, the Hungarian people end up bringing wads of cash in envelopes to doctors and say I need the treatment. Here in Germany people assume the healthcare is free, but those on the public option sit for days in crowded hospital rooms. Those with private insurance pay huge because they need to pay for the public option. Bottom line, I don't want to pay for someone else, not now or ever. If I donate to my church than that is inspired by generosity not the government forcing me to pay.
Public healthcare works fine in every industrialised country. It works fine in Britain, Australia, for heaven's sake even ISRAEL has a better healthcare system than the US, and we spend more than 50% of our state budget on security.
With all of my 29 years of experience living in a country that has public healthcare, yes. With my mother and my grandmother's experience of being cured from breast cancer by that public healthcare, despite having family history of it. With my experience of suffering from clinical depression a few years back and having psychotherapy + meds covered by my public insurance.
Then you've obviously missed the point. For the rest of us, Olbermann pointed out that an image of a man with a hammer is just as representative of communism as it is Arm & Hammer baking soda. That a company's ownership in a piece of Rockefeller estate does not render them members of some NWO illuminati organization, that the proximity of a Russian-gifted statue to the United Nations does not make the Rockefellers as communist organizers, and that Beck is less credible than a Dan Brown novel.
That's not the hardest thing to do.
