It's been a week and I still can't get over it :(. He's one of the only enforcers who fought against Probert, Oliwa, Boogaard, Matt Johnson, Laraque and KO Brashear. Keep in mind all those guys have been hw champs 1 or multiple times. Truly remarkable he held his own against them. Yes his fight vs Janssen made him rightfully famous in Toronto. I'll never forget that fight. He tore the roof off! RIP big man
proud to be a leafs fan and even prouder that Wade got to wear the blue and white jersey. He was a great guy to have in the locker room and an even greater guy to have out on the ice sticking up for his teammates. My heart goes out to his family. R.I.P. Wade, you will be missed.
I laugh when I hear people like laraque say that its such a tough profession and then afterwards you are kicked to the curb and how you make very little..this guy made at least 500,000 each year that is more than 10x what an average person makes, he chose to play hockey and not goto school, did he think he was going to play forever? everyone has to go to school your not born with anything, so this loser was just a spoiled whiney person, should have sent him to haiti to toughen him up
he did not die from natural causes, therefore probably suicide, and i just cant understand why such a successfull person would want to kill them selves, he had a family, wife kids lots of money everything, but then he still gets depressed, its a disease that needs to get more recognised and should not be one that is a reason to be made fun of or be embarrased of, people who are happy just think hey lighten up pal or whatever stop beeing so grumpy kindof negatively and that just makes it worse
Assuming a Preds fan put this together? Nicely done, but some of his best tilts came while a Leaf (Janssen, McGratten, Neil, Brashear). Regardless, nicely done.
piss off iwillwait, there is a time and place. Yannicks death is tragic, but might i remind you that joining the military is volountary, and the military offers attractive monetary incentives to us not so famous folks. if you want to debate the frovolity of professional sports go elsewhere. wade was a great guy and a talented hockey player, also a kickass fighter. i mourned his loss when the leafs traded him, now i mourn his death. RIP Wade, condolences to his family! oh yeah, Yannicks too
@artsykid2000 fuck off, whats wrong with you? People are sacrificing their lives and doing everything they can in the line of duty to protect their homeland and citezens, and people like you, give them no respect what so ever. Yes, belak's death was tragic, and sad, but sometimes you gotta appreciate what people are doing for you, especially dying for you
@artsykid2000 war games? k, im just saying you gotta support our troops that are risking everything they got for you, and you sit on here and talk shit about them, real grateful.

He was famous (and paid thousands) for throwing a piece of rubber on ice.The man got the media's attention because he was ''a famous hockey player''.But what about Yannick Scherrer ,24 ,who was killed in Afghanistan in March 2011 by an improvised explosive device? It really disturbs me to see someone who played a sport, get more attention for his death than a young man who lost his own life for the sake of a better world and our country
Totally understand your frustration, but this is our society as it is. Why does Michael Jackson's death get a cover story on People when my dad's death from cancer not even get mentioned outside of the Knoxville, TN newspaper???? I hope a day comes when this country places recognition and reward to soldiers, police, and teachers above entertainers, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Beeker did ALOT of community service in Nashville, so he wasn't just "a famous hockey player".
@iwillwait - are you serious buddy? He had an impact on society that was unmatched. Yes, we should praise our men fighting (US/Canada), but understand everyone has a choice. His choice was to play Hockey and be and great person among society, which ever team he played for. You think men in the Forces havent sent their condolences. Also, remember who sent the men over into those countries. If it was for the good...why is it taking so long? and why do we jump from country to country.
Take your negitivity elsewhere - PS. Blame your dumba** former Leader Bush for all the men dying. get your head out of your as* and look around you. Action = Reaction.....US.....think they are OH so powerful lmao when they cant even protect there own economy they have to stage an attack on themsleves. And its funny how George Bush Sr. was having breakfest with the Bin Ladin Family the morning of the 9-11 attack. Stop acting like a child and wake up people.
@CashSniper1 Maybe if you were informed you'd keep your mouth shut, Yannick was a Canadian. Calling me a dumbass and saying Yannick was american is plain ignorance.
@iwillwait either way a man is dead. In both cases someone's parents outlived their son, some kid was left without a father and the people who knew or cared about them are left saddened. Take your self righteousness and jam it. There are videos where people close to the military are mourning. Hockey fans are here to mourn one of theirs.
@TheDoomSquid Yet he was all over the news. M y belief, is that if Wade is on TV, Yannick and all the others should be there too. But you people don't seem to understand the logic of courage and devotion to our country.
@iwillwait Wade's passing was all over the news because by nature of being a televised professional athlete he was recognizable to thousands if not millions of people. That doesn't mean his death is more important than the death of a solider, or that hockey as seen as more important than defending the nation. To expect every fallen sodlier to be treated like a celebrity is unrealsitic and misguided in its logic.
@iwillwait Wade Belak done a lot for charities and if u had said that to him about casualties in afghanistan and iraq etc,i guess the guy would have agreed with u,it wasn't Belaks fault his death was publicised,he was a well known and well respected player.
@iwillwait Wade Belak done a lot for charities and if u had said that to him about casualties in afghanistan and iraq etc,i guess the guy would have agreed with u,it wasn't Belaks fault his death was publicised,he was a well known and well respected player.
@iwillwait fuck off..any death is something to respect..not one takes priority over another..however this is a video regarding wade belak, one of the greatest enforcers in NHL history. you wouldn't understand that though. probably don't care. douchebag.
I remember a little while before the goal he got against Nashville they were doing an interview with him about how he was on the way to getting the record for longest goalless streak in NHL history and he joked "Don't jinx it. I could go out there and score a goal tomorrow."
Then a shot from the point hits the defense-man in the face and lands on his stick and ends up in the back of the net.
The United Kingdom had the honour of Wade Belak playing over here in 2004 during the NHL lockout. He gave much pleasure to the fans of Coventry Blaze, the team he played for , but also to the fans of opposing teams, many of whom had rarely seen a NHL player, except on TV, so to see him live on rinks all over the UK was awesome. His death has shocked the UK and thee is much sadness here.
RIP Belak. Thanks for all the great memories in T.O. If anyone else out there is dealing with those inner demons that are tough to discuss with friends or family, do whatever it takes within yourself to start the dialogue. You'll be amazed as to how supportive people can be. There's too much life to live.
Bob Probert, Derek Boogaard, Rick Rypien, and now Wade Belak. Momma don't let your baby grow up to be an enforcer. Depression, drugs and alcohol... it is not an easy road to follow.
Concussions change who you are, and having lived with/through one... they are not to be taken lightly. Boxing has had similar tragedies.
RIP Belak... Lord only knows how bad it must have been for you to leave behind your family. No one can judge a man without walking a mile in his shoes.
the guy was my favourite player to ever wear the leafs uniform. he didn't score. but when he did. the entire city was on their feet. RIP Wade, you were the best
Is it drugs, concussions, steroids, pain killers, depression. Three young "enforcers" in such a short time. It 's been going on for years in wrestling and looks like it has finally caught up to the NHL. Whatever the cause, the NHL and NHLPA need to investigate and take action if the findings point to any of the above. Then hopefully players and people everywhere will think about it before injesting crap into our bodies. NOBODY ever got well from doing drugs: G. Carlin. RIP Wade. A Habs fan.
@treknavigator Hockey's never been 'ABOUT' fighting. Its just a necessary and important part of the game to have an enforcer on your team that will stick up for everyone, like Belak was... RIP
He always left the fans with a smile & a laugh, took care of his teammates, and kept their spirits up when things weren't going their way- he'll be missed by many, many people.
All our sympathy goes out to his friends & family.
Just putting this out there... This guy is not all fight... at the end of the video that is what we need to see more of. WadeAminute was hilarious... put some of that footage in for crying out loud show what he was like off the ice when he wasn't defending teammates and such. This guy made me an instant fan and it was all because of an interview I seen him in he was hilarious.
