I love the Rheostatics, they put on a great live show. Unfortunately, the sound quality on this older video is poor. Try the live Massey Hall version, much better sound.
Very straightforward song for the Rheos but they had a point to make and sometimes it takes a sledgehammer. Nice video. leppo I concur with your sentiment. Harris was a failed teacher and decided to take that out on the education system, the poor, everyone who needed something. I miss what Ontario (and Canada thanks to Mulroney's sell-outs) used to be. It will only get worse but there are always people like the Rheos making it better.
leppo71, agreed. the mid-1990s were a bad time to be poor (not much better today either). there simply is no more compassion, just efficiencies and entitlements.
This song was written for Mike Harris, former conservative Ontario Premier.

Truly a powerful song, especially in rough times such as these. It's a shame The Weakerthans version is so difficult to find.

Martin's playing is still one of the most amazing things I've ever heard.

What does he mean by the line, "Haven't I done enough to burn out?"

Maybe it means 'haven't I done enough so that my burn-out is justified'?.

sad to think almost 15 years later and we're in the same fix all over again.

Much better put than my screed. Cheers.

May Mike Harris be haunted by the consequences of his actions (the petty, simple-minded resentment exploiting cretin).

ditto for John Snobelen and his grade 10 education!
