I have a Wally World tent up in the yard that just lived through a couple of storms that produced tornados, one of them an F2 that took out several homes and damaged some friends of ours businesses here in Arkansas. Overall we have been lucky here and not had the large death tolls that some of the other states have had.
Totally coulda used these tips a couple weeks ago. Dang southerly winds tried to take my Red Canyon 8 man tent to Oz! My lil 2 yr old was upset that Uncle Chad had to take it down :)
i tried putting a tarp up with 40mph wind and torrential rain once, was a nightmare. ripped out some of the loops.
could you do a video which is just a compilation of all the most useful knots and ties you use? would be especially useful coming from someone with so much experience and who knows what works best in which situation etc. could be a really good video.
Great tip Dave I am so glad there is people like you and cableguyken here on youtube that brings bushcraft to the common man. Becuase thats where it all started hundereds of years ago. Thanks for keeping it that way.
question. 1# is it hott in the winter. and you are amazing for that you keep making more videos and dont stop becous this is intelligense for survival skillz and peaple need it
Love the video. I already have one legal pad full of notes and I am about half way through a second one just from your videos. Thank you for sharing with us.
Neat little trick there. Yet another little trick I have learned from watching your videos. Thanks so much for being kind enough for sharing your expertise with us. God Bless
Nice vid Dave. I like the your suggestions here. I can see where you could use a similar technique with four trees for the corners and two in the middle for hanging your hammock under the tarp
Check online Bro.. they have some great sales if you keep your eyes open. Mine is 7X4 I think.. I would like it longer.. but it's good for emergencies. It definitely wouldn't be my main setup :)
Very good Video, How is that tarp to you? I'm looking at one for my EDC backpack. I haven't tried it yet but I think my basha and bungee cords idea would do Kinda the same thing in windy conditions.
I got this tarp with my Gearpod system.. I 've had it about 7 months.. It's pretty good for what it is.. although I prefer my tarps a bit larger. Yes.. it fits in my EDC just like you saw in the video.
Whoa! A new intro! Nice! I love it! Great video! Always a pleasure to watch your videos and I hope you continue to share your passion for the outdoors for many years to come. I did a paracord-poncho shelter video recently as well on my THSurvivalGear channel.
another great video as always they are always very informative and teach me new skills or give me other ideas and are great to watch thank you so much for the effort and time you put in :)
What you are referring to as grommets on that tarp are not grommets, they are nylon loop tie out points and they are much stronger due to the fabric reinforcement than the metal grommets that are found on the cheap hardware store tarps.
Good video none the less. Using the prussic loops on a continuous ridgeline is pretty standard far when pitching a tarp for hammock use. It is also useful for the tarp guylines too as the prussics will slip beyond a certain force applied to them.
Bro.. If you listen carefully in the video I said grommets and lopp points or tie out points. I understand on my tarp they are tie outs.. but I was speaking in more general terms since many people use many different types of tarps. Sorry.. I should have been a little more clear. Thanks for the comment!
Steve I have not voiced my opinion about your videos in awhile. I just want to tell you that they are invaluable. The things you show us all are great. Thank you and your wife for your hard work. Sincerly Greg.
why not just buy a better quality tarp with better grommets...

Yes.. bungees work well.. but believe it or not.. this setup is even easier on the grommets or tie offs.
