@prathammajmudar It's doubtful Gilgamesh is the first story EVER written. Any story preserved, even by oral tradition, can be said to be "written". The traditional use of the word "written" as it applies to "stories" or even any preserved knowledge means "created". Gilgamesh is simply the oldest known written story.
It irritates me when people get an erection over Gilgamesh being the first anything when it most likely isn't.
Also, it's to polished. Writing like that takes centuries to develop.
@prathammajmudar WEll i know how old it is and that the bible stole some stories from it, i meant like, it appears so infrequently that i dont mind mistakes (espicially if its Patrick Stewart) i mean you dont often see it being told in the simpsons or south park or in music or anywhere in popculture ( if you know of any good rock music that involves the Epic of Gilgamesh PLEASE let me know about it that would be so awesome!!!!!!!)
@prathammajmudar Dude, how often does the Gilgamesh epic appear in popculture anyway. And its freaking PICARD who is telling the story!!! under the circumstances I am willing to accept minor inaccuracies.
@3132102 : The original language would have been sumerian or akkadian. Both are almost certainly dead languages, today existing only on stone tablets, long since mutated into forms of Syrian, Arabic, Persian, etc. Nobody would have understood it, had Picard been able to recite it in its original language.
Arabic is not the original language of this story.
Darmok is one of the better "message episodes" of the franchise.

He's full of shit that Jean Luc Picard....you can't shut him up round a camp fire. Everyone's like "FFS, Jean Luc...shove a sock in it, mate".

He should do a recitation of the Epic of Gilgamesh, or a narration of it on stage. He's a natural at this kind of thing.

This is one of the most touching scenes in all of Trek, and certainly one of Patrick Stewart's finest moments in TNG.
