  • Arcade Fire never allow their music to be used in ads. However, this was a ONE-TIME exception that they made because the money was going to go to Haiti.

Other than this, Arcade Fire never allows their music to be used in ads. They also never allow themselves to be sponsored by corporations. They also maintain their publishing rights as well, so other bands/singers can not put their own versions of Arcade Fire's songs on cds or iTunes.

I admire Arcade Fire for holding their music sacred.

  • @pytko3 Arcade Fire has actually allowed the NFL to use several of their songs over the last 2 and half years.

  • Haha. Oh my goodness listen to all these complaints. Arcade Fire and Fox along with a charity group made a deal to play the song during the Super Bowl. All proceeds from the licensing agreement went to

Haiti relief. Calm down people it was for a good cause and personally I liked the way it worked out.

  • this was an ad from last years super bowl.... the nfl used it without permission, but this year, they did have permission

  • i didnt expect to hear the song in the super bowl... i liked it.

  • Everything about Fox screams "god, we suck!"

  • Wow, that just ruined the song for me. The way they tied it with the "emotionally striking" clips and effects, so cheesy. I really hope that Arcade Fire got fucked over there by NFL, instead of them consciously selling the song to those multi-billionaire assholes.

  • @ibizzzaaa Yes, how dare artists be free to use their material as they please.

  • @ShanksDChopper they did it for charity

  • @ibizzzaaa Arcade Fire donated all the money they received for health care in Haiti after the earthquake... so do you still hope they got fucked over? Give Arcade Fire a little credit and research what their motives might have been before you chastise them...

  • Apparently they are considering to sue fox.

  • dude, they didnt even have permission to use the song.

  • My wife and I freaked out when we heard Arcade Fire being played during the Super Bowl.

  • it's just sad that as a pats fan instead of associating this song with a glorious moment in my life, it now will bring back bad memories. I might not be able to listen to no cars go for a while haha

  • Crazy!!

  • Haha.

    What a mix of things.

  • I screamed in the joy of hearing Arcade Fire during the Super Bowl, had to silence an entire room so I could make sure. xD

  • It caught my ear like nothing else. It's just another step toward getting Arcade Fire the recognition they deserve for being one of the best bands this decade.

  • fuck football. long live arcade fire.

  • 100% agreed XD

  • 200% agreed... arcade fire has nothing to do with mindless football. barf.

  • @whacksteez Yea fuck football

  • Lol it's ironic an cool kid indie band got played on the highest watched Super Bowl of All time.

Indie cool kids must of jizzed them selves, it's kind an oxymoron to have these guys put together with a sport.

  • i really hope they asked arcade fire for the song, thats not fair to just use it like that, and if they didnt ask, then i hope AF takes some action and get the money that they deserve from nfl or fox or whatever. i dont think AF would have let them use that though cuz they wouldnt sell out like that so they must have used it with out asking because now that i think about it, i just dont see them sying yes to that.

  • omg..

  • it was so much better in mike mos part in fully flared

  • Pretty sure they can use up to 30 seconds. Sucks how they used it without asking though.

  • i dont like that they used arcade fire in a fricken super bowl commercial and they used like the last 10 seconds of the song wtf

  • Kudos to the people at Fox who have taste, but don't take a band's music without asking them. Artists should be able to choose what their music represents. Even though it didn't contain any lyrics and was fairly short, it was still recognizable as Arcade Fire. I heard if they sue they won't have a case, but let's hope they at least get something.

  • you honestly think rupert murdoch rocks out to arcade fire?

  • Arcade Fire is a awesome band, to damn good for fox and the nfl to sell them out like that! DAMN MEDIA!

  • this is probably the 3th or 4th time I've heard Arcade Fire during an nfl broadcast. It's wonderful, but fox should have gotten permission, now they face a possible lawsuit. More money for the Arcade Fire is certainly not a bad thing. Hopefully they'll just come up with a deal so they can play their songs and the Arcade Fire get paid.

  • This is great. My favorite part of the Super Bowl was this part. I started yelling at my screen. I'm sure that Fox has bought the rights to all of the songs on the record label Arcade Fire is on so. Most bands can't decide how their music will be used.

  • wrong.

  • How do you know? I got mad at a band for their songs being played at Abercrombie and Fitch. When I talked to the band (Ash) they told me it's all the record label and they have nothing to do with it.

It depends on what their contract for the US is. Because they are from Canada they might not have signed as great of contract in the US.

They also had to get payed. If they didn't their record company would sue them.

  • The band is not signed to a major label. They are signed to an independent label, Merge Records. The band has control over virtually all of their affairs. They were not paid and they did not give permission for the clip to be used.

  • they should sue. super bowl ads cost a lot, and they didn't even ask them. i highly highly doubt they would even say yes to using the song for an ad anyways.

  • And Fox used the song without permission too.

  • so sad
